I went to the gun show in Dickson today. ARs for $2K, Stripped AR lowers for $500, AR mags for $100, .223 and 7.62 ammo for $1 a round, SKS for $700. I will note these were asking prices and stuff wasn't flying off the shelves. I don't see how some of these dealers sit behind the table with a straight face. You'd think the ban was already in place and they were selling pre-ban stuff.
I was going to stock up on some stuff but y'all can have it if you're willing to pay these prices. I'm going to wait this craziness out and either do without if the ban does happen or get some deals when the bubble bust. I'm really pretty well set anyway.
Also, I can understand the panic buying on guns and mags but don't really on ammo. Certain guns and mags seem to be about double or so over normal but ammo seems to be up 300-400%.

I've never sold a gun at a gun show to a total stranger. One I sold to a dealer there and another I sold to a friend of a friend. I've always been leary of selling a gun to somebody that just walks up to you. You just don't know what their motives are.
I've never thought about it but seeing their HCP is a good idea. That way you know the've passed a background check. DL is better than nothing but all that tells you is they passed a drivers test.
I just wouldn't want some CT type shooting to happen around here and they trace the gun back to me.

There's still many ways to protest and resist right now without starting a hot civil war, if some mag ban is passed and I can't find new mags to buy all I can do about that is write my reps, but if some kind of registration or turn-in bill is passed, millions of gun owners can resist by not acknowledging such an un-constitutional law. I keep reading some who seem to fear that if you resist there will be armed storm troopers breaking down your door, just how many LEO's, feds, soldiers etc. are there? Are there enough to search "MILLIONS" of households for guns? I certainly don't plan on caving in and hope no one else does because we are just too many for the government to deal with and I believe they can't completly trust all the LEO's and military personell to follow orders to attack American citizens. We may have an opportunity to put the politicians back in their place somewhat, at least show them that the people still ultimatly rule.
What they will do is just go after a few and make a really bad example out of them. Most of the rest will fall in line for fear it will happen to them. All it would take is just a couple of raids covered by the media where they drag the guy and his wife out in cuffs (or kill them in a shootout), take everything he owns, and put his kids in foster care.
They wouldn't get them all but they would get most of them and most of the ones left will be buried deep in the ground.

To be honest, I'd be fine with them banning all the video games in the world as long as they leave my firearms alone. Not that I think video games are the problem but if the politicians want to think that and leave my guns alone, I'm ok with it.

I read somewhere that she has submitted a "AW" ban every year since 2004. It's getting press this year in light of recent events. The school shooting for one but this could have even have been planned years ago. BHO and the other libs have kind of been "laying low" until BHO got his second term. You're going to see one turd like this right after the other for the next 4 years. The only hope we have is stopping it in the House.
Looks like the republicans are fixing to cave tonight on the cliff. Hopefully the next congress will have a little backbone but I'm not holding my breath.

To me, he seems to be backing off of this a little. He wasn't demanding anything and said he wanted to have a discussion. Now I know this could all just be political talk but I wonder if he seeing the resistance and don't want to talk so boldly about it. I wonder why he didn't mention Dianne Frankensien's bill, I'm sure he'd sign it if it passed. I think he knows it won't pass.

To clarify my earlier statement I take "can accept a detachable magazine outside of the pistol grip" to mean any gun that can take a mag that hangs out below the grip (like a Glock with a 32 round mag). That would include all semiauto pistols that I know of.

The odds of no bans happening is starting to look better. Saw BHO in a interview on Meet the Press today and even he is starting to backtrack. I don't think he's changed his mind on the matter but he doesn't seem to want to talk about it much anymore. Even the liberal talking heads are starting to have doubts they can get something passed. I guess it could be a ploy to get us to let our gaurd down though. Everybody was all excited right after the shooting but Americans have a short attention span and they seem to be loosing interest.

Looks like "nothing" is far in the lead. They'll be sweeping this one under the rug.
While it is in the lead (47.5% when I looked), all the other choices are for some sort of restrictions and if you add them all together you beat "nothing". We need to get it above 50%.
What suprised me is how many voted (14.9%) to amend the second amendment.

Ending private sales wouldn't bother me, personally. It would have almost zero impact on me, and I would never hear "gun show loophole" again. Not saying I'm for it.
You'd also be suprised how many FFLs would be privately for this. A lot of small shops make most of their money on transfers because a lot of people buy guns on-line these days (often at better prices than a small dealer can get them for). Transfers will go way up if you end private sales.

Here's what I take from it-
"can accept a detachable magazine outside of the pistol grip" I don't know of any semi-auto pistol that can't accept a mag outside the grip (they all go in from a open bottom). They are all gone.
"a shotgun with a revolving cylinder." I wonder if this would include the Tarrus Judge?
"a pistol grip (which includes ANYTHING that can serve as a grip, see below)" I could see this meaning a regular stock. Every gun I know of you have to grip it somewhere with your hand. If you didn't grip it, how could you hold onto it to fire it? Every gun known to man has a part that serves as a grip.
"Frames or receivers for the above are included, along with conversion kits." I'm taking this to mean that you aren't going to be able to buy different uppers and such for grandfathered guns and even the parts to a ar15 or the like will be banned.
I don't think the bill as written has no way in he** of passing. We've got to be careful though, they could still take parts of the bill and come up will something that could pass.

There is one thing to remember. The present Congress can't compel the actions of a future Congress. To
say something can't be repealed won't fly, but it sure does say something about tyranny on the fast track.
I agree. If is was passed into law in 1902, why are we just now hearing about it?
Even if it is the law of the land, I would suspect the current administration and congress would just ignore it. They don't mind going against the constitution so I don't see why they would care about some obscure law.

If nothing else, I think the whole NFA registration deal will kill the bill.
I also wonder if this bill will have any affect to transferable machine guns. The last ban didn't but this one seems to cover much more. If you can no longer sell transferable MGs, some people are going to be out some big bucks.
I'd like to see the list of the guns banned by name and just more details in general. A quick google search didn't turn up anything. I guess we will find out the details Jan. 3.

It's not all that hard for any machine/fab shop to make mags. To get set up to make them on a large scale would take some time and investment though. I'd be afraid, with times like they are, to make that investment getting in this late in the game. If I made some for myself I'd probably just throw a few together that would fuction but without the proper tooling, they probably wouldn't look as good cosmeticly as factory made ones. I haven't checked but I'd also suspect springs and followers are starting to get hard to come by with mag makers working at 100% output.
A couple of years ago I looked into getting my class 2 FFL (manufacturing license). I didn't do it but now wish I had. I've got access to CNC machines that could turn forgings into complete lowers fairly easy. I'd be cranking them out if I had my license.

I'm sorry but your post seems to indicate you mean the State of Tennessee? What planet are you living on where our state legislature would be considered pro-gun?
I strongly suggest you re-read some of the insane state laws we have regarding firearms, then go bug your legislator to fix those issues :)
For example, how about not making all firearm possession in the state illegal? Or having to pay an unconstitutional fee every time you purchase a firearm in this state?
I'd agree that the TN state government isn't as pro gun as I'd like for it to be but it's way better than the federal government. There have been several pro gun laws passed in the last few years in TN, while the rest of the country seems to be on a trend passing anti gun laws.
I know we have a long way to go but I'd be willing to bet we will see some sort of pro-gun legislation come out of the state during the next term. I'd also be willing to bet there will be zero pro-gun legislation come from the federal level (BHO would certainly veto it) and we will be very, very lucky if there isn't a bunch of anti-gun stuff passed into law.

I was looking to pick up a few items before all the craziness happened. Guess I drug my feet too long. I'd still buy and pay a premium but I'm not paying the crazy prices I've been seeing. Stuff wasn't nowhere near this high for pre-ban stuff during the last ban.
I've got a small machine shop and if I can find the springs and followers, I can make my own mags much cheaper than I can buy them for at current prices. I've even thought at looking at some 80% lowers but without having a class 2 FFL, I can't make them for resale.

Chuck, I hope I didn't offend you in the previous post. I just know they are starting to drag people off to jail that makes what they consider a "threat" under the guise of homeland security.

Both sides talk a good game. I think there's a lot more cops that will do it than will admit publicly and I think there's a lot more people that will turn their guns in than will admit it. Another thing to think about is that if a cop refuses, about all he stands to loose is his job. If the military is called upon to do this and refuses, they can face a court martial.
Look a Katrina. Did you hear of any LE refusing to confisate guns? As far as I know all that was given that order followed it.

If you'll notice, the news media and the anti-gunners don't want to talk about Columbine. Why you ask? It's because it happened when the last ban was in effect and it did nothing to stop it.

If it's like the '94 ban, the only thing that will be hard to get is recievers. You would be able to buy any new but still be allowed to buy pre-ban guns or recievers. When the '94 ban was in effect, you could still get all the "evil" accessories, you just couldn't put them on a post-ban reciever. New mags over 10 rounds were also illegal to buy but you could still own and buy pre-ban 10 round plus mags.
The new ban could very well cover more than the '94 ban. I've heard everything from turn them all in to you could own pre-ban items but couldn't sell them or pass them on when you die. I've even heard talk of making the new ban just an extension of the '94 ban. I take that to mean that any banned gun or mag bought after 2004 would be considered a post-ban item and illegal to own (meaning it would have to be turned in or destroyed).
All we really have to go by is the '94 ban and the "task force" is using the '94 ban as a template to build off of.
A actually think the '94 ban would have a chance of passing. What we can hope is the libs add enough crazy stuff to it that it won't pass. Dianne Frankinstien has already said if she can get enough votes she'll send the BATF knocking on your door to take all your guns..

If the govenrment wanted to find out what you had, they could. The main problem is the government is incompetent. The NFA registry the BATF keeps is a mess. I have firsthand knowlege of a owner of a NFA item that contacted the BATF about his paperwork. That was several years ago and to this day they have been unable to produce a copy of his form 4. Evendently, they can't find it.

I wasn't "stocking up" because of the looming ban. I keep quite a bit of ammo on hand and I'd sold several guns. I had some cash and I was looking to at least replentish my ammo.
I may be looking at liquidating some of my stuff if prices keep going up. I've got way more mags than I'd ever need and if somebody offers me $100 a piece (I saw some priced that high) it will be hard to pass up.
