  1. was that on a new gun or used? if it was new, I'd be curious to know if they restocked your returned gun as "new"...
  2. I mean this as an honest question and am not trying to pick a fight: have you ever heard of a gun shop accepting the return of a firearm? I have not nor have I ever expected them to. Not even Walmart accepts gun returns and I can think of several good reasons of why such a policy is in place. In my experience, buying a gun is a lot like buying a car--once you sign the papers that gun (and all it's problems) belong to you.
  3. I'm not Rob Pincus, but even I have enough experience to have seen many 3" 1911s that would have been more use to their owners had they been single shot pistols. They're a terrible idea. Why do they exist? Well, they look so darn cool that Kimber and Springfield and Kimber (did I mention them already?) know that they can sell a lot of them, and most shooters won't bother to complain becasue most shooters don't...uh...shoot. It's simply the result of cynical marketing that's good for the company and no one else. Every 1911 smith on the planet will tell you that when you take JMB's pistol to a barrel length south of 4" the design begins to fail...and that's because the design of the 1911 was for a 5" barrel. Nobody says you can't design a reliable 45ACP with a 2-inch barrel, just don't do it with an auto loader that was originally designed as a cavalry pistol.
  4. Oh, and the Caracal is about as thin as a double stack nine can be but the max width is ever so slightly more than a Glock. HOWEVER the Caracal feels thinner than a Glock because the grip is not boxy and is contoured to fit the hand. .
  5. I know. I was surprised in fact. HK is probably still a little more refined but the Caracal is right up there. You can. Trick is that you have to use either the bony tip of our thumb, or the bony inside of your thumb's first knuckle to contact the striker. If you use the fleshy pad of your thumb, the striker can still press far enough into your pad to complete it's travel.
  6. Remington Gun Club is usually the cheapest but the quality is variable. I usually shop around and buy when on sale. I've not seen the kind of great deals on bulk shotgun ammo that I've seen on other ammo. Don't know why that is.
  7. Great guns. H&K quality fit/finish. For the price they're a steal. They're still being imported but I don't know how fast--they really put the cart before the horse with their big splash at SHOT but no distribution network to follow up the demand.
  8. Funny you mention Dell. I've had an interaction with Dell where the person on the phone was obviously wrong, I asked for their supervisor and when I spoke to him the problem was solved instantly. In this case, the Arsenal employee misstated the company's warranty terms in her email. She didn't say that the OP's problem wasn't covered, she said that the warranty begins at the time of production which is incorrect (and insane). She didn't know what she was talking about.
  9. You'd be correct if the OP had gone after Arsenal the same way he's instead gone after the gunshop. But he didn't . All the OP has from Arsenal is an email from someone who may not even have the knowledge or the authority to speak for the company--we've all had those experiences. He needs to speak to the woman's supervisor, manager etc and get clarification. If he can get something in writing from someone high up that Arsenal will not honor their warranty, then he'll have legal ground to stand on.
  10. Don't know about On Target, but Arsenal is coming off looking like the bad guy to me. Basically Arsenal is trying to blow you off and you're buying it. You even bought that On Target hadn't contacted Arsenal when in reality, Arsenal could have been trying to blow smoke in your face (or just have really crappy record keeping) The best strategy here would have been to play the unsatisfied customer and to **ally** with On Target to get Arsenal to make your gun right. The gunshop has the most leverage to help you here but instead, it sounds like you keep poking them in the eye. Again, I've never been to On Target and they could actually be the nest of vipers you're painting them as being...I simply don't know. However, nothing you have reported seems that out of line for a gunshop...I mean they'e just a *gunshop* and I have NEVER placed a great deal of expectation in ANY gunshop I've dealt with. They're simply the middle men in most cases. But your post has convinced me that Arsenal customer service sucks--if the gun had been a Smith&Wesson or a Springfield you would have never recieved the BS email you did and the gun would have been fixed within a week.
  11. if that rumor is true then that changes everything. however, as has been pointed out, the police media release says "Mayo started to get out of the truck, [the homeowner] fired two shotgun blasts at him. Mayo was wounded in the head and crashed the truck." it could be that the police are holding back on part of the story until the DA decides what to do.
  12. From the short account: "once the homeowner caught the man, police said he began striking him with the shotgun." That's where it all breaks down as the homeowner was evidently no longer in fear for his life. His actions from this point forward are not going to serve him well and he can easily be painted as being a vindictive and overreactive lunatic. There is no mention of the burglars having weapons at any point, and shooting at a guy while he was driving away is at best described as revenge and at worst as reckless endangerment (this happened in an urban neighborhood). Unless there's more to the story, then all three people involved lost. And in a way, we all loose as this story can easily be viewed as reflecting poorly on the self-control of gun owners
  13. Well, it was fun. And as planned, it was HOT. There weren't that many birds (this according to the experienced hunters there)--fired a total of only 19 shells (!). I hit 5 birds and got to keep 2 of em (the guy next to me took the others--maybe he hit them first, i dunno...) Want to go again and hope to see more birds
  14. Tomorrow's the day! It's gonna be HOT!! Going to a pubic field so I'm sure there's a lot of etiquette and little rules I don't know. I'm going with an experienced guy, but there's a chance that we wont be together. Any tips for a first-timer? And one question I have: is it legal to field dress doves as I shoot them? Thanks for any advice
  15. thank you kb4ns!! that will work for now. what a strange regulation, eh? guess it means that i should look upon everyone 42y.o.and older as being "uneducated";)
  16. New hunter here... Is there any hope in heck that I'm going to be able to fulfill the Education requirement before opening day? This regulation got me by surprise and this is perhaps the first time in recent memory that I wished I were older
  17. thanks for the info. man that would almost be worth it if they'd just have a "members only" range day, maybe opening earlier and with a reduced number safety officers.
  18. i still can't find out how much an annual membership costs? and does it get me anything other than 200yd privileges? thanks -Dave
  19. how much is a membership? and does the 200yd range have target stations @25, 50, 100yd etc? (i didn't see where it was when i visited) thanks
  20. i had no idea! that's amazing. i will thank them even more profusely next time
  21. for a public range with the resources offered, Stones River rivals most commercial ranges I've been to. but yes, i agree--i'd prefer a place to shoot that was more regulated by membership, and less regulated by the criteria of the "stupidest shooter". that said, all the range officers were respectful and polite and pretty much left me alone. the Charlie Haffner Memorial Range has always seemed ideal, but it too far away for me to ever (realistically) use it very much. The Gallatin gun club is perpetually closed for membership and the Davidson Co Sportsman's Club range is (if I recall correctly) pretty far away too. So, who should I write to to lobby for Stones River to increase their hours?
  22. First, I'm posting this thread to say how thoroughly impressed I was with this range facility--$5.50 gets you a whole lot of outdoor shooting and the staff that works there was super-helpful and friendly. We are very lucky to have such a facility within a 20 minute drive of Nashville! Now, that said, I'd love to try the range out when it wasn't so darned crowded. Yesterday (morning of a weekday) the line was full by 11:30am. Wost part was that the guy that ended up next to me had a short barrel AR15 with a muzzle-compensator that was absolutely intolerable to be next to. Each relay I had to wait for him to drain his magazines before I could even approach the firing line. Is it always this crowded?--when are the best times to go? Thanks, Dave.
  23. tons of info here: 1911Forum - Powered by vBulletin
  24. glad to hear they are nice because i'm going to be "that" guy, the one who shows up with an AR15 and a Brown Bess
  25. Good to know! The Stones River HEC is the closest to me (~20miles) but I like the weekday option offered by CHMR... What do you all think my odds are for getting into the Gallatin Gun Club?
