  1. Nope, I didn't buy it all out of the Smyrna location. Their sporting goods mgr there ordered way too much 12g ammo (hence the hundreds of boxes above the bb/airguns and the two endcaps full of the stuff!) and isn't going to buy anything else until some of that moves. I told her if she'd put that crap on sale it'd move! She's kinda' stupid.

One of those kids behind the counter is a friend of mine (Travis) yea.... he's not too bright. BUT, he was bright enough to tell me when 44 Mag went on sale for $5 a box!! I poop you not! $5 a BOX!!!!!

He hid the last six boxes for me until I could get there! He may not be the sharpest loaf in the chandelier, but he's a good friend and loyal!

  2. The Wal-mart in Murfreesboro on Old Fort (96) has it.

Ask your sporting goods manager to order it for you. Tell him/her that you know they can get it, and you'll buy the first two boxes they order!

  3. I still can't fathom why anybody would pay $250 for 1,000 rds of Wolf when you can buy GOOD ammo, Federal Powershock 50gr HP with reusable brass casings for just $35 more per K at Wal-Mart. Not all Wal-Marts stock it, but they can get it. It comes in 200 round packs for $57 each. ($57x5= $285.00, 200x5= 1,000 rounds)

  4. If you want to save even MORE money (to spend on ammo) then I recommend the Maverick 88 by Mossberg. It's kind of a dumbed down Mossy 500. I bought mine for $137 new at Academy Sports a couple years ago. At the time, they were also giving away an aluminum long-gun case with every shotgun purchase, so I got a $60 case for free!! Anyways, I shot about 1,000 shells through the gun, from target loads to Magnum buckshot and slugs without a single hiccup. I recently sold it and it still looked just as good as when I bought. The bluing holds up really well on this gun.

I bough the All-Purpose version, which had a 28" barrel. That's kinda' long for a defense gun, but they also have an 18" Defender (I think) version with some other goodies that still comes in right around $200 I believe.

There's nothing fancy about a Maverick, but there's nothing wrong with them either. Great, solid, reliable guns.

  5. I think he meant "bottom feeder" only in terms of action, i.e. semi auto, not in terms of quality.

Kahrs are nice guns although pretty pricey. My first carry gun was a K40.

Sorry this is late, but Rabbi understood me correctly. I wasn't trying to say any gun was inferior to another and meant no disrespect.

Semi-autos are sometimes referred to as "bottom-feeders" because that is how they cycle their ammo, from the bottom up.

  6. The cases sticking in the gun is not a malfunction of any sort at all, simply crud buildup in the cylinder where the 38s are a little shorter, and the 357s are constricted by the carbon, leading to sticky extraction. The easy way to take care of this is to shoot your 357s first, THEN your 38s. When you get home, clean the gun, then go out and do it again!

It sounds to me like you'd be OK shooting that small qty of 125gr ammo. Also, is your gun in good shape visually? (wear, scratches?) Is it nickel or blue? If it's in good shape and original condition, I'd hold on to that gun! Model 19s are much loved and the values are going up. (If I had the money, I'd be telling you to get rid of that chunk of junk... and I'd help take it off your hands for you!) I've had to sell of quite a few guns in the last few months, but I'm not letting go of any of my 19s!

  7. Have you been the owner of that gun for most/all of its life? If so, and if you haven't shot hundreds of 125gr 357s through it, I'd say that one box probably won't hurt it. (a risk, nonetheless)

If it were me (and I've already done this, I have a soft spot for M19s!) I'd just shoot up what you got, then only buy 158gr and up magnums from now on, for that particular gun.

The best solution would be for you to go buy all the 125gr 357s you can find, then immediately locate and purchase a Smith 686 to shoot them all in!

  8. First, as for shooting a lot of 38s in a 357, you are right, ALWAYS CLEAN THE CYLINDER BEFORE SHOOTING 357s!! All that crud can lead to higher pressures and difficult extraction.

The things you've been hearing about shooting magnums in a K frame are generally in regards to the 125gr full house mags wearing heavily on the forcing cone which has a little extra shaved off to fit the cylinder. The cone right there has been known to crack. The 158gr and up bullets are usually considered fine.

    Happy shooting!

  9. I like where this thread has gone so far. I am at the lowest financial state of my life right now, so I will by no means be making a purchase soon. However, if I could it would be some sort of bolt gun in 30-06, then another in .223, and an AR. (I had to sell my AR a couple weeks ago) I'd also be very interested in some sort of carbine in 9mm or 40S&W, but not a Hi-Point. I really dig having a long gun that ses the same ammo as my handgun.

What about a couple of the Taurus pump or lever rifles? Say a .22, 38/357, and a 44mag? Those fit soundly in you range and are really something you don't see all the time. I've got a Marlin 1894 in 357mag which I paid way too much for (like $250 too much. They really raped me) from a local shop when compared to Bass Pro or whatever, now that I know a little more about gun prices. Looking back on that one, I still would buy from that shop (love those guys!) but I should have done more research and bargained a little more. I was new and they knew that, but I guess it's all part of the game. I've never wanted to play the haggle/dicker game, but I guess that's just the way it goes. I've worked both sides of that table and like neither.

wow..... that's a bit off topic!!

Anywho, buy some cool guns and I hope they sell real fast for you, so you can turn around and buy more even cooler guns!

  10. Looks like you're really looking at bottom-feeders only, correct? If so, I'd give all the KelTecs and Kahrs a good look, too. Lots of power in a tiny package for those guns chambered in 9 and up.

I'm old-school, so I'd also suggest a look at the Smith J frames, Ruger SP-101, Charter Arms guns, and I'm sure many more.

Just find what you shoot best, are most comfortable with, and carries at least a moderate amount of firepower. Get something you'll actually carry, versus a boat anchor you'll leave at home.

  11. Sorry you missed it Len!

Yep, we had a great time! Of course, the initial awkwardness of meeting a bunch of people for the first time was there, but soon we were all having a good time learning how to get your car out of a jam with a KelTec PLR16 and a shotgun. :slapfight:

I hope we can have another meet soon, maybe after the new year when everybody's schedule slows down.

Thanks again to all who came, and hope to see you again soon!
