  1. I don't have mine yet, but I have decided. I will keep mine in my wallet. I will not be flashing it around for all to see. There will be no reason for me to let everyone to know I have it. Family, close friends will know I have it. I havne't taken my class yet, but I have been doing allot of reading, here and other sites. I picked up some thoughts, if I do something that might provoke a fight while carrying it could be bad for me.
  2. I know this is Silly but I have to point this out. Coming up Oak Ridge is having their Secret City Featival and part of it in the City park will be a WWII Reenactment. Just wondering, since the City Parks are posted as a no carry/no weapons can they really do that? Sure they fire blanks but the guns are techincally still weapons. They will have an asortment of WW2 military knives and bayonets. Plus a Tank or 2. I guess they have to fill a ton of paper work and get it approved and signed by to allow an exception to the rule right
  3. Sorry if I I am a bit off topic but the thread on Auto knives got me thinking. I normally carry a pocket Knife with me every where, never give it a second thought. Just a regular folding knife, like a buck, or a case in my pocket, sometimes a leatherman on my belt nothing auto about them. At what point is a pocket knife illegal to carry in an area where there is one of those 14x6 posted signs. "MISDEMEANOR. STATE LAW PRESCRIBES A MAXIMUM PENALTY OF ELEVEN (11) MONTHS AND TWENTY-NINE (29) DAYS AND A FINE NOT TO EXCEED TWO THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS ($2,500) FOR CARRYING WEAPONS ON OR IN PUBLIC RECREATIONAL PROPERTY." I guess those signs could apply to knives? I think I read some place blades on pocket knives have to be less then a certain lenght to be legal?
  4. I live in Oak Ridge TN. So I see your point, Halls is not bad from Clinton, but as far as getting back to Oak Ridge I will just circle though Ktown, then back to Oak Ridge.
  5. I read a thread there is one on kingston pike, I went back trying to find it but did not find it right away. ***** Edit Just found it http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/handgun-carry-self-defense/39831-waiting-my-permit.html
  6. I already checked, pretty Much I know I will be using the Clinton Driver License location and the finger print location in Knoxville. I guess the 115 Dollars I pay the state goes to the Drivers license place but covers the finger printing as well? I looked closer at my Certificate of LIve Birth, it appears to be from the state, next time I am in Clinton I will try to check with the Driver License place to see if that would be accepted. I believe it should be.
  7. I am trying not to ask questions that have probably been ask multiple times here. I am reading and using the resources in the sticky thread at Tennessee Handgun Permit Resources . I am planning to take The Hand Gun Class Next Month here in Oak Ridge, I have been talking with the guys over at Austin's. I understand when I complete the course there, there are a few thing I have to finish up on my own to complete the process. I want to make sure I have this right. 1. Take and pass the course and get Proof I passed the course. 2. I take the proof and my Official Birth Certificate to the Driver License Office to apply for the Carry Permit? 3. I go to another Office in Knoxville to be fingerprinted ? ********* I am wondering if I have the correct paper work for the Office Birth certificate. I have my actually birth certificate from the Hospital and I have a second one I believe Mom applied for once when I was a kid when she could not find that when it was lost for a time being. The first one is the one Mom/Dad came home from the Hospital with, Cerfifies that I was born. The second is Certificate of LIve Birth by the Ohio Department of Health. (I do not claim anything OH. Dad only went up there to work) Also, when I go to the drivers license place, they just copy what I have right? I keep the orignal ? This one has the hospital seal and even my feet prints on it. So think I have the right stuff ?
  8. Pretty sure I won't find that at my local gun shop any time soon will I? I would like to have one of those for sure.
  9. Ok, Time line correction, I know my post was like 4 a.m. when I was talking about going back after work. That was Tuesday afternoon. I did not see a sign at the East entrance. Well, I am going to correct myself. I was walking around at that time looking for sign. Today ( Wednesday) I did find the sign at the East Entrance. Heck, I even measured it. It is 14x6. I can not swear it was not there Tuesday since I found it there this morning, but I know I looked in that area. The Signs are really to small. Since the fine and jail time is so high, the signs should be at least the size of a stop sign. The should be required to make them highly visible. Also with making it illegal to Carry in certain areas, that will make those areas more likely to be targets for crimnal minded people.
  10. Well, the Entrance where the Oak Ridge City Park, I forget the name of it. where the library is, is not posted but there are a few signs around. But you can drove on to the property and have to look around for the sign. I am going down there today with a Camera.
  11. In Oak Ridge, The City Parks are posted, very POORLY. I know this as I accidentally found the sign. I am currently only talking about the down town park near the Police station. Sunday my wife and I went for a walk around the trail and where where half way around the trail and then I found 3 signs. Very small sign. Today after work I went back to see if I had over looked any signs. I entered on the East entrance. There was no sign at the entrance. There was no sign where I could get on the walking trail. I found one on the very east end of the parking lot. I found a couple in nearly hid locations. I found a couple in the West end parking lot. A couple around the walking trail after you where already on the trail. However, By the time you could actually Find a sign, they would actually try to say you where in the wrong. I am not a strong public speaker but I can try to get some pictures and I live right here in Oak Ridge if I helps anyone bring this point up. Also the signs are very small, Does the law require the signs to be of certain size and have an exact phrase on them? Sort of like Speed limit signs have to be a certain size. I will try to make my way out to the Oak Ridge City Park today and take a picture of the sign and post it. Heck I plan to even messure it. It starts off about being a Misdemeanor punishable by a fee not to exceed 2500 dollars and not more then 11 months and 29 days in jail. Something to that effect. (I promise to one day install IE to my computer)
  12. delete I refreshed my browser and it reposted the same.
  13. Thanks all, BTW, I drove over and talked with Mike at Austin's this evening. I am going to try and get a day off next Month at work to take his class. I just sent an email off requesting time off. That gives me a bit more shooting time before hand to tighten up my pattern. I know i have my 3/7 yard down good. I should practice a bit more at 15 I am sure. Give me my rifle, I will take a deer at 300 yards. Pistol, well that is a bit different.
  14. Thanks for having me. I am 35, raised in East TN around hunting, fishing, motocycles, camping and the great outdoors. I currently live and work in Oak Ridge. I am a proud gun owner. My family has lived in the same general area since the 1820's. I am the one that left and I only went to Oak Ridge 50 miles away. I found this site when I was looking up some of the requirements for the carry permit, which by the way I did find the answer I was searching for. I was searching for the required distances for passing the shooting part of the exam, 3 yards, 7 yards and 15 yards. Until recently most of my shooting has been with rifles and shotguns. But I believe I am almost ready to take the class for the carry permit. Little more practice, then to find a class that I can work in with my work schedule. Dad introduced me to guns when I was 5. He took me deer hunting with him when I was 8. I killed my first squirrel and deer when I was 11. When I was 10, I had my own guns. Other things about me. I don't consider myself very left or right, as I can not find myself 100 percent in agreement with any political party, often I find both sides have views I hate and views I can agree with, which often puts me at odds in some discussions. Don't ask me which party I like, ask me about an issue. However, I never want to see any RIGHTS stepped on. Profession, I work with computers, not my ideal job but it pays the bills. Personal Life, Married, no kids. One Pet. Couple places you may see me, Irish Times in Turkey Creek or Buffalo Grill in Oak Ridge.
