  1. +1 On the Savage's..... Dolomite helped me with both of these builds. Top build is a 7.62x39 and the bottom started as a plastic stock .243 and now is .223 rem. He even walked me through headspacing over the phone and he made me confident enough that when I hung up the phone and test fired that I would safe. I know they are not "tacticool" but they are my flavor.

  2. Some people say "He who dies with the most toys wins!"   The way I see it is " He who plays with the most toys wins!"

With that said I am trying my best to play with them ALL!   :woohoo:

  3.

    I have a couple I said I wouldn't part with too...but now I'm thinking.

I am the same way, I don't buy a gun just to sell it. But a lot of times once I finish a gun project and shoot it some I am ready to move on to the next project. And I just cannot afford to keep all my projects. It is the same way with my vehicle's I build them up to what I want then sell them just to build another. "I think its a addiction" LOL

  4. Sure. You say that now.

You are almost as bad as myself and Steelharp for acquiring and moving your goodies.

LOL.......I also know Graycrait. But  this 10/22 really is something special. I bet he keeps this one for a few years at least.

  5. Just thought I would share my latest project. I have been slowly working on a 7.62x39 barreled Savage action that I acquired from a fellow TGO'er.The past week I was working on bedding the action into a new stock and and waiting on parts to arrive. Final parts arrived saturday and had to chance to sight her in today. Ran 40 rounds of wolf 122g fmj at 50 yards (75 yards is about all I have room for at home) All holes touching on 5 of my three shot groups. I am very pleased with this setup and it is cheap to shoot to boot.

  6. I have 3 savages 2 short action 1 long action.A remington 700 long action. And a ruger mark II in short action. I have had all actions apart. Here is how I rank.

    1.Ruger

    2.Savage

    3.Remington

You cannot beat the savage action for the price point. Period!

  7. Or do a drivetrain swap out of a wrecked 99-04 lightning or supercharged Harley truck.they also have the hd tranny. I myself have a modded 2000 Lightning makes plenty of power for hills. Last dyno was around 370 at the rear wheels. Only running 10 lbs of boost.

You know, that would probably be about the same cost, maybe a wee bit more (not sure on the specific conversion requirements) but it would definitely be one hell of a lot more reliable than his current set up with a blower on top.

Your probably right on the cost. And I also look at it as DIY also. So back to the fact he could find a diesel excursion for the same $$ he will spend modding plus the value of the expedition. That's the way I would go but watch out for those 6.0 motors..
