  1. One thing I find odd though is that gun stores only apply the cash discount on firearms. I never see a discount on holsters, ammo, hats, etc. If they're being honest about the 3% fee, why not be honest with every item in the store?
  2. Is this the only industry that blatantly rips off it's customers in this fashion? I just don't understand why a business that sells items that are worth hundreds of dollars needs to have a "cash discount" or a "3% credit card fee" when buying a gun. There's no other place I shop, online or brick-and-mortar, that does this. I realize that there are some gun stores that don't do this but they are few and far between. I guess the worst is shopping online. Why on God's green earth would I send a money order to buy something from a website? If you buy online, you use a credit card. I know someone will chime in and say they pay with a money order when shopping online but you're the exception, not the rule. Someone educate me on the fees that credit card companies charge vendors. And if it's 3%, why not add that to the cost of the gun so people like me don't flip out? Sorry for the rant but I hate seeing the price for a gun with an asterisk next to it with "cash discount price!". Sorry, I don't walk around with 1200$ in cash. Forgive the rant, had to vent that one out.
  3. After it sold so quickly I was thinking that I should have asked for more
  4. I didn't really need one but I saw how fast they were selling and thought I could make 50$ on it.
  5. I sold mine for asking price as soon as I walked in the door. I was surrounded by about 12 people asking to see it and the first guy that put it together and broke it down said, "I'll take it." Sold my Raging Bull a few steps later. I did see one more takedown on a table. Picked up a SR-22 for a decent price and left pretty happy. Not a bad show this time around.
  6. Anyone see if they were selling any 10-22 takedowns? I'll be headed there today to try and sell mine.
  7. By the way he was moving, it was him. However, I wasn't as collected as I was before I came across his bed.
  8. Not sure but doesn't someone have to move firearms out of their possession if they have an order of protection against them? That might be an option.
  9. So I finished my hike this morning. I carried my 9mm open on my pack which was definitely the right choice. Surprisingly enough, I did see a bear early this morning. He was about 1.5 miles north of campsite 30 on the little river trail. I must have woke him because as I was walking I heard a loud crash in the brush on my right about 20 yards and then saw him running across the trail behind me about the same distance. He looked to be about 200lbs but that could have been the adrenaline making things look bigger. However large, he was moving so fast that I knew it wasn't an animal I wanted to deal with 6 miles from any civilization. I don't remember drawing it but when I looked down my gun was in my hand in the low ready position. Needless to say I was on edge the rest of the hike. It was the first time I've seen a bear outside of Cade's Cove.
  10. Looks like these are getting a little hard to find. Spent a good while trying to round one up to order online. Better snatch one as soon as you see it if you're in the market.
  11. I thought it would be at first but the kydex paddle contours perfectly to my ribs and I could barely tell it was there. It's almost as if it was made to fit that part of my pack.
  12. I guess I should clarify, that's the waist strap of my backpack. It's really wide and cushioned so it covers pretty much my whole waist and more. The gun sits right under the bottom of my right ribcage and is super easy to draw from that position.
  13. Carrying concealed isn't really an option since my waist strap is very wide and covers my waistband on my pants. The M&P is easily carried on said waist strap and is very hard to see unless you stare. I was in Frozenhead last summer hiking just that way and had a 5 minute conversation with a ranger without him even glancing at my pistol. I guess I will probably go with the 9. Thanks for all your opinions.
  14. I'm hiking in the Smokies this April to a back-country campsite and will be staying overnight there. In all my time in the Park I've only seen a handful of bear so I've never been very concerned with them but they are still something to be considered. My choices are down to 2: #1 S&W M&P Pro Series 9mm with a magazine extension. Pros: (Relatively) Lightweight Lots of rounds per mag (17 for standard, 22 in the extended mag) Easy to carry on my pack openly Very fast to draw Cons: It's a 9mm, not so great for bear or boar if I encounter any #2 Taurus Raging bull 454 Casull Pros: Big caliber, good chance of disabling most animals on 4 legs (or 2) Heavy, can be used to break apart rocks to build a foundation for a homestead if I get stuck Cons: 5 rounds It's heavy, (4lbs heavy) Not easy to carry It's heavy Not easy to draw It's heavy Trigger pull is long (in double action) and it's heavy Hike is 6 miles in 6 miles out. I'm an experienced hiker so that's a pretty short distance for me but even in 6 miles things can get annoying if they're bouncing around on you. Discuss...
  15. I kind of figured that but I guess anywhere else would be illegal?
  16. I was talking with a coworker today about carrying and he asked about taking a gun from the car to the range without a permit. Can you do this while carrying ammo as well? I have a HCP so I've never really considered this question.
  17. There's a ton here: http://www.facebook.com/run.for.your.lives?sk=photos That's the RFYL Facebook page...
  18. Usually I just lurk on these forums but my zombie experience had to be shared...
  19. So that's me, as a zombie. Why, you ask? I ran in a zombie 5k down in Union Point GA with a crew call "Run for your Lives" who travels all over the country and sets up these races. The goal is to run a 5k with three flags similar to ones in flag football. Zombies and obstacles are staged all along the course and you try to finish with a flag. I was a zombie for the first 3 hours, tried to grab flags and I was staged close to the end of the course. By the time most of the runners got to my obstacle less than a dozen still had flags. I was thinking the race would be difficult and I would be right. Oh, and my make-up, done by one of the lead FX guys for the Walking Dead. When I finally ran my race it was through ankle deep mud for 3 miles trying to sprint away from zombies and through watery/muddy obstacles. When I got close to the end I discovered I was still with a flag so I sprinted to the finish and made it as one of the "living". Loads of fun. If you want to try it just Google zombie 5k and you'll find tons of info. Here's me after the race:
