Legal Go-Around for Posted Establishments?

Recommended Posts

Can anyone here give me a legal read on this?

While visiting a posted 'no-carry' establishment, instead of leaving my gun in the car (ie, unattended), may I legally carry an unloaded gun into a posted establishment and instead leave the magazine in the car?

I was just curious but would prefer to not be a legal guinea pig...

My understanding of Tennessee's law is that most handgun carry is based around the concept of "carrying with the intent to go armed." It is the permit that grants one a "pass" on that.

Places that post essentially have put you back into a position as though you have no permit whatsoever, so we get back to "carrying with the intent to go armed," which is against the law.

It is also my understanding that if one were to carry into a posted place, and then have to use the handgun in self defense, that person would be justified under law and not guilty of "carrying with the intent to go armed."

I am not a lawyer, I did sleep at a Holiday Inn this week (but I do not fall back on that for anything other than a high hotel bill).

Personally, I do not go to places that are posted.
