You shouldn't have to tighten the brake more than one turn to get it

tight enough against the jam nut. Put it on and see how close to where

the brake exhaust ports should be and tighten to there, unless it just

snugs by hand to the nut in the desired position. If you are lucky enough

to just have to get a half turn on it it should suffice.

What kind of brake is it?

Some people use only the brake and no jam nut and locktite it in position.

They say it takes the stress off the barrel and is better for accuracy.

It could be but I wouldn't know, since I've never done it, but it dies

kind of make sense.

I've had to take some metal off a jam nut to get it where I wanted it,

but that usually isn't needed.
