Fishing in Murfreesboro

Hi all.

I have taken an interest in fishing for the first time as an adult, I now have a son of my own and think in order for me to teach him how to do these things I need to learn myself.

A buddy of mine from work has a bass boat and we've been out on Old Hickory a few times, but I would really like to know if there are any spots in Murfreesboro you could recommend to bank fish?

The only spot I've used is the Walter Hill Dam, however there are a bunch of questionable folks there who most likely are "poaching." Lots of casting nets being used, and very few fish to be caught.

Any other recommendation on spots in the Stones River? Or other bodies of water?

Although I've never fished it, I have heard that the dam at Stones River was pretty good.

I fish the Greenway off of Medical Center Parkway. Walk down to the dam and fish below it. I use Zoom speed craws and spinners. I cast right at the dam just below were the water comes around it. I usually let the current take it then work the lure back to you. I have caught several really nice bass there and crappie.

Just curious... does anyone fishing in the Stones River eat those fish, or just catch and release? Just asking, because the super tall garbage dump sits right beside the stones River near the Walter Hill Dam! I've been doing some fishing, from my duck boat, out near the Mona boat Dock...catch and release. There are some pretty nice rocks to fish from along the bank there. It's off of West Jefferson Pike, between walter Hill and the Smyrna Airport.

Use the google map feature and look for access sites to the rivers/arms of the lake. Satellite view will let you see what it looks like in the area. High water may preclude access during some seasons of the year.

Far more access and locations than one thinks there are and lots of accessible shoreline in rocky (fishy) areas.
