Carry is prohibited where alcohol is served for consumption. Carry is NOT prohibited where it's merely sold (grocery store, convenience store), but it was prohibited there years ago when the permits were first issued.

There's no federal law regarding carry in liquor stores. Any instructor worth his salt should know all this..... how long ago was it when you took your class?

Basic questions on TN carry law can be answered here: http://www.packing.org/state/tennessee/

Read the entire Tennessee page and if you have any other carry questions, get back to us!

P.S. - Caps lock is seen as "yelling" on the internet.

Nice sig.. I'm a huge CDB fan.

I am suprised your instructor could not answer the question

Unfortunately, I'm not. I've heard a lot of nonsense from instructors.

You really need to read and learn from Tennessee Code. Same with other states you may pack in.

I think Packing.org is OK on their Tennessee pages. Some other states are out of date.

Packing.org is pretty up to date but here is the tn.gov official DOS page which tells you where to look for the answer to that question as well as many others- http://www.state.tn.us/safety/handgun/handguntca.htm

Here is the actual cite - 39-17-1305. Possession of firearm where alcoholic beverages are served. —

(a) It is an offense for a person to possess a firearm within the confines of a building open to the public where liquor, wine or other alcoholic beverages, as defined in § 57-3-101(a)(1)(A), or beer, as defined in § 57-6-102(1), are served for on premises consumption.

(:( A violation of this section is a Class A misdemeanor.

© The provisions of subsection (a) shall not apply to a person who is:

(1) In the actual discharge of official duties as a law enforcement officer, or is employed in the army, air force, navy, coast guard or marine service of the United States or any member of the Tennessee national guard in the line of duty and pursuant to military regulations, or is in the actual discharge of duties as a correctional officer employed by a penal institution; or

(2) On the person's own premises or premises under the person's control or who is the employee or agent of the owner of the premises with responsibility for protecting persons or property.

In the Tennessee Codes Annotated the Title Number 39 is regarding Criminal Offenses, with Chapter 17 having to do with Offenses Against Public Health, Safety and Welfare and Part 13 having to do with weapons. Although I believe Marswolf has published the link elsewhere in the forum here is a good link to TCA regarding firearms- http://www.michie.com/tennessee/lpext.dll?f=templates&fn=main-h.htm&cp=tncode

BTW, I would not take any more instruction from the individual or school that could not answer your simple question regarding this subject.

Good Luck!
