  1. i started this thread more in good humor pointing out that it SEEMS like the first thing mentioned on gun forum auto threads is reliability. . . . Thats not the first thing mentioned when talking revolvers. . Take that for what it is just an observation But i honestly probably started the thread because my wallet is trying to talk me out of my recent semiauto kick. But i do think there is one thing that is undisitputable. Chasing brass is much easier in revolvers
  2. I still don't know if I am with you on the high round count part. A couple of my favorite Ruger's prob see about 6,000 rounds a year....no signs of slowing down. They are not all high powered heavy loads, but a lot of them are. They still lock up fine and have no timing issues. I agree that if one was to start having timing issues it would need a trip to the gunsmith, but I honestly don't think they can be worn out if I do regular cleaning and care. The odd manipulations and demanding drills I can agree with you on....but of course that is because you do not need to do odd manipulations to them. Like you I am not downing Autos....I love them also. both have there pros and cons. But again the reason I started the thread was that I prefer revolvers because I don't have to worry about relaibilty and malfunctions....at least not with a Ruger Single Action......I feel pretty confident in saying they can easily pass the 100,000 round count......double actions maybe not
  3. I got to disagree with the never get run hard enough comment I run very heavy 45 colt loads through my Ruger Blackhawk pretty constantly. I shoot alot of 300 gr bullets going 1200 fps. I would not be suprised if my son does the same out of the same gun. Again I love autos also and like I said have been on a semi kick lately....but my all My Ruger Blackhawks can take punishment and never seem a gunsmiths table
  4. I am a revolver guy at heart, but I have been on an Autoloader kick lately. Been reading a lot more post about auto guns as a result. I noticed everytime I click on a thread about how great such-n-such semiauto is the first sentence is usually something like "Went to the range today with my new gun and NOT ONE MALFUNCTION. It ate everything I fed it" Never see this on the revolver threads for some reason. Yet I hear alot about how far semiautos have come and reliabilty is not too much of an issue......but (and maybe it is just me) but it does seem like the first words of praise about an autoloader is reliabilty. Six shots without a stovepipe, FTF, or FTE sure beats 12 jams
  5. Saw a Colt/Uramex 1911 .22lr today for $399.00. It was beside a chiappa ($329) a GSG ($359) and a Sig ($379) ...all 1911 .22lrs. The Colt did seem to feel better than the chiappa and as good or slightly better than the GSG/Sig. It also had the best finish (in my opinion) I had done a little research before of 1911 .22lr's and it seemed that the general consensus was the chiappa/puma is not very good.....the Sig is a rebranded GSG but it does seem to get mostly favorable results. Did not know much about the Colt....seems to be fairly new and I can't find out much. So far it seems 1) Made by Walther in Germany for Colt and imported by Uramex (quite a mouthful) 2) Has 12 round mag. (others have 10) 3) Does not need allen wrench or tools to field strip (GSG/Sig does) 5) Fixed barrel (not sure about the others) Anybody own one of these or can tell me any more about the Colt?
  6. Got a question. I had a large box with about 700 rounds of 22lr in it dump out all over the ground. To make matters worse I was in a lake bottom where the water was down but still muddy as heck. I threw all the rounds in a few zip lock bags and now I have a bunch of 22lr covered in mud, dirt, and clay. Can I tumble them clean? I have done some searching and gotten mixed results on tumbling loaded ammo. I have yet to find anything on tumbling loaded .22lr rimfire. Is it safe? How hard does the rim need to be struck before it goes off? Anything else I need to be aware of? Thanks
  7. CZ 83. It feels soooooo good in my hand
  8. I have a Makarov 380 that I was thinking of carrying IWB and was wondering if anyone carries one. How do you like it? What kind of holster do you use?
  9. Picked up a Frankford Arsenal quick n easy tumble and have a qestion about its function and operation. This tumbler has a clear cover so I can see it while it works. I seems to just shake the media and brass and moves it in a circular pattern. The demos I have seen on youtube show the contents moving toward the center and rotating from top to bottom. Mine does not do this. I filled it about 2/3 full with corn cob media and about 400 9mm brass. I ran it for about 2 hours and it seem to clean it well and has a decent polish shine to it. Does this seem to be normal or ok? I can still return this itme no questions asked, but since it seems to clean the brass I wonder if I should do anything. I am more concerned that it is not working to its full abilities now and will not last long. Thanks!
  10. Thanks guys

    Kel-Tec PF9

I Will 2nd the CDNN recommendation. I have bought a few guns from them and got a Kel Tec P3AT last month for $189 (+$17 S&H). I believe the PF9's are currently around $220 (+$17 s&h and FFL fees). Depending on what your FFL charges I think you should be able to get it for around $270 all together. I absolutely love my PF9. Have about 1000 rounds thru it and had a few FTF and FTE in the first 200 or so rounds. It was caused bya loose extractor. A little blue locklite on the screw and it has been flawless since. Kel Tec has OUTSTANDING customer service. The guns are IMHO one of the best values (if not the best) in handguns today. That beibg said, I would only recommend them to someone who likes to (or doesn't mind) tinkering. They are simple designs and easy to fix yourself and you run a good chance of something happening at some point. you could always send it back to Kel Tec, but then you would be without a gun for a few weeks. Kel tec will always send you what you need and you can DIY. As far as steel ammo. I shot 100 rounds of tula this weekend with no problems. The recoil is not as bad t TO ME as some say. It is not as stout as a snub nose 357.
  12. Thanks guys....not a Ford guy (Dodge man myself)...., You can always throw the records out in the eggbowl, but we are looking to make it 3 straight.
  13. Hello everyone. Just wanted to say hi. I am from the Memphis area and I am a Ruger Single Action fanboy. Born and raised in central Mississippi but have called Memphis home for the last 11 years. Love my Mississippi State Bulldogs almost as much as my Rugers (sometime more...depends on how well they are playing) Anyway just wanted to introduce myself
