  1. looking for a little justification are we?
  2. Shot another 50 rounds through each and no issues at all. The triggers on both are great. Sorry to bust the Judge haters bubble, but the Judge is actually pretty darn accurate.
  3. Thanks. Growing up around here I am sure lots o us know hunters who are not into handguns. I don't think anyone can argue that the Judge is well known. I find a lot of people that are not as passionate as we are are interested in the Judge. Heck I was/am interested. It was on sale and thought it would be a good addition to my collection. I am sure to have fun with it and hopefully it will get a couple of other people out to the range with me.
  4. FIRST. How do you pronouce or type out multiple Taurus? Tauruses, Tauri, Taureece? Hey guys I have picked up my first 2 Taurus handguns in the last couple of weeks and wanted to share some quick results. The new guns are a TCP 738 380 acp and a Judge Public Defender 45/410. TCP: 125 rounds of my reloaded ammo (95 gr RN lead cast with 3.8 - 4.1 gr Unique) 1 stovepipe. The stovepipe was on a mag I was shooting 1 handed to see how it feed. Accuracy was a little better than expected. I also have a Kel Tec P3AT and the TCP seemed to have less recoil. It also has a really nice trigger. Judge 150 rounds of my reloaded 45 Colt (230 gr RNFP 7.1 gr Unique {50} 7.6 gr unique {50} and 8.1 gr Unique {50}). Cylinder did lock up 1 time. This was a result of a primer not seated deep enough. I attempted to run the same round through a Ruger Blackhawk and locked it up also. I also learned not to try that again, because getting the cylinder out on the SA Ruger with it was a PITA. Accuracy was very good with the 8.1 gr loads and pretty good with the 7.1 & 7.6 loads. I was actually suprised with the accuracy. everybody talks about how the Judge is a bad 45 colt gun. I also have a 7.5" Ruger Vaquero and a 4 5/8" Ruger Blackhawk. The accuracy is not as good as the 7.5" Vaquero, but I shot this 2" Judge on par with the 4 5/8 Blackhawk at about 20'. The 7.1 & 7.6 gr were very nice to shoot. The 8.1 loads had noticably stouter recoil but not too bad. The Judge also has a really nice DA trigger and the fiber optic front sight is nice I did not shoot paper targets. I was shooting at empty 16 oz energy drink cans. So I do not have any groups to report. The first time I take a gun out, I like to just plink with it to get a feel for it and check for malfunctions. All in all, I was impressed with both. They both seem well made. Judge locks up nicely and both guns have very nice DA triggers. I am very suprised with the triggers to be honest. Like I said I have never owned a Taurus before but I did not have any aprehension buying one though. Lots of people bash them but my research shows most bashing is second hand accounts (most not all). Storoes of people they know with bad Taurus, not their own. I got both on sale from Sportman's Wharehouse and were at a price I felt I could take a chance on. Judge NIB $379 TCP 738 NIB $199 I enjoy shooting pocket pistols and kinda have a thing for little guns, so the TCP for $199 was a no brainer. I got the Judge because, .... well because. Sorta got it (laugh if you want) for my friends to shoot. I have a few buddies who are big time hunters, but not really into handguns. When we get into handgun conversations they all seem to bring up the Judge. How they would like to have one, how their uncle has one ect. I figured it would be nice to have one for when they come over. In a way i would like to get them more into handguns and if shooting my Judge will get them shooting handguns with me, then I think that is a good thing.
  5. Broke it down and cleaned it. Feels really good in the hand and has a really nice trigger
  6. I assume that is in 32acp? I am really wanting one in 22lr.
  7. Wanted to let everyone know that Taurus is selling the TCP 738 at a lower price right now. I just picked up a Taurus 738 TCP 380 acp pocket pistol for $199 new from Sportsmans Wharehouse (Southaven MS. I live on the Mississippi side of Memphis). Taurus is selling them with 1 mag and no zipper case at a lower price. $213 OTD. Already have a kel tec P3AT in 380 and did not really need this one, but for that price I figured I would pick it up. And I do have more than 1 pocket :lol4: I really like reloading for 380s. It is very cheap with cast lead and is fairly quick to load on my turret press. Now adding this to my Kel Tec and my Makarov, I got 3 pistols in 380. Each one cost me $199 each. Anyone got any experience on the Taurus TCP 738?

    Ruger SR22

Pie not to doubt you, but what were the P series (p90, p95, p345) copies of? Those big ole ugly pistols are a reliable tank like gun.
  9. I think it looks cool and would love to have one myself. I am a traditional Single Action guy at heart, but that doesn't mean I can't find beauty in the unusual. Different, but in a "I mean business" sort of way.
  10. I have $375 in “toy“ money to spend from Christmas. The local Sportsman’s Wharehouse has the Taurus Judge Public Defender on sale for $369. I am just looking for a fun plinking gun to shoot around the farm. Put a hurting on the stumps in the pond. I love single action revolvers and reload for 45 colt already. I have SD and CC covered (ruger sp101, kel tec p3at & p11). Is $369 a good deal? So how much fun is the Judge? How bad is recoil (i figure it can not be worse than a full house 357 out of the sp101)? How expensive is 410 shot? Basically is it accurate enough and is recoil tame enough for it to be a fun shooting gun.
  11. I honestly think you cannot go wrong with either. Heck I have a feeling one day I will end up picking up a Sig/GSG "for my son" to go with my Colt
  12. It is unfortunate you had so much trouble. I guess your experience is pretty comman since Kel Tec is barely surviving and they have nothing that resembles a loyal following. My experience however has been positive. I have a P3AT with a little of 1000 rounds through it since about March. Not one single FTE,FTF,FTL, or SP's. Not 1. They were all reloads though so maybe my gun is total junk and I am just a Super Reloader. My ammo is soooo good even a Kel Tec can shoot it!
  13. You can get after market wood grips fairly cheap if you look around. I got these from Altamont for $44 shipped. I have bought some really nice ones (without colt logo) off ebay for less than $20
  14. I looked really hard at the Sig/GSG but ended upgetting one of the Uramex/Colt/Walther 1911 .22lrs. I got the government model for $389 OTD. Seems well made. Fit and finish is good. I bought it for a fun range plinker. It was a real close call between the different models and I did a good deal of research before I bought one. You probably can't go wrong with with either the GSG/Sig or the colt. Based on the reviews I have read I would stay awya for the Chiappa/Puma one. The reviews seem to indicate they are not well made. Some of the advantages (IMHO) over the GSG/Sig 12 round mag no magazine disconnect fixed barrel no allen wrench needed for takedown (takedown very easy) If I understand the company relationships on this one it is made by Walther for Colt and imported by Umarex. (at least that is what it says on the gun). I have taken it out two times and here are the results: 1st Time: 50 rounds CCI bulk--no issues 50 rounds Remington Subsonic -- no issues 50 rounds Federal bulk (walmart value pack) no issues 100 rounds of Winchester Superx -- no issues 200+ rounds Federal Lightening-- 7 failures to feed, 1 stovepipe. (note I also shot a new Ruger Mark III and had issues with the Federal Lightening with it also) 2nd time: Shot a total of 500+ rounds and had 2 failure to feed and 2 stovepipes. All of these were with the Federal Lightening rounds. Approx 100 CCI Blazer bulk -- no problems Approx 50 rounds Winchester Super X -- no problems Approx 50 rounds Remington subsonic bulk -- no problems Approx 25 rounds of Federal Bulk -- no problems Approx 300 rounds of Federal lightening -- 2 FTF and 2 stovepipes Accuracy was very good today. I was shooting off a picnic table top and shooting at small stump protruding out of a pond at roughly 50 feet. (stick was approx 12" high and 4 inches wide) So it was no bullseye paper punch, but i was impressed. Overall I am happy with the purchase. It is not a Colt Ace but it is cheaper than the Ruger Mark III that I recently bought and it was just as reliable and was close in accuracy to it. I have to believe the issues with the Federal Lightening is ammo related. I have had trouble with it in every 22 auto I have shot it out of. Unfortuately I bought a bunch of it while it was on sale (4000 rds) so I guess I need to shoot it up quick to get rid of it Here are some pics. I replaced the factory rubber grips with some wood ones
  15. I have a 6.5" blued Blackhawk in 357/9mm and it is my most accurate handgun. My favorite though is the 4 5/8" Blackhawk in 45colt/45acp. If you reload go with a 6.5" Blackhawk in the 45colt/45 acp. If you do not reload go with the 357/9mm. The ablity to shoot 357 and cheaper 38sp and 9mm makes it a very versitle plinker
  16. Just another update. I shot a few more rounds today and I am really liking this gun. Shot a total of 500+ rounds and had 2 failure to feed and 2 stovepipes. (stick was approx 12" high and 4 inches wide) So it was no bullseye paper punch, but i was impressed.
  17. I recently got one of the Uramex/Colt/Walther 1911 .22lrs. I got the government model for $389 OTD. Seems well made. Fit and finish is good. I bought it for a fun range plinker. I wanted a 22lr in the 1911 format and I chose this over the others because (Chiappa and clones had bad reviews, cheaply made, and remington was too small and expensive.) Some of the advantages (IMHO) over the GSG/Sig 12 round mag no magazine disconnect fixed barrel no allen wrench needed for takedown (takedown very easy) If I understand the company relationships on this one it is made by Walther for Colt and imported by Umarex. (at least that is what it says on the gun). I took it out for the first time yesterday (along with a new Ruger Mark III i got my son for Christmas) and I must say I am impressed. Accuracy is good. It shoots slightly low (not much), but not too bad for a fun plinker 50 rounds CCI bulk--no issues 50 rounds Remington Subsonic -- no issues 50 rounds Federal bulk (walmart value pack) no issues 100 rounds of Winchester Superx -- no issues 200+ rounds Federal Lightening-- 7 failures to feed, 1 stovepipe. (note I also shot a new Ruger Mark III and had issues with the Federal Lightening with it also) Overall I am happy with the purchase. 18. Looking at getting a compact/sub compact 45acp. Will be used for some carry, HD, and range fun. Want to keep it under $500. The Sig 250 and Kahr CW45 both intrigue me. Which would you choose and does anyone have any opinions on them. Espically interested in. How it handles reloads/handloads Customer Service Reliability Open for other suggestions also. Again keep it under $500 and looking for a ploy fram. Not interested in a 1911 (I want to get 2 45's and one will be a full size 1911 the other will be a poly compact)

    Taurus pt845

I don't see alot of talk about the Taurus pt845 45acp. Looks like an interesting hammer poly 45. Anyone own one that can tell me a little about it?
  20. Ok I am thinking after the new year I might add another revolver to the stable. I am a big fan of my Ruger 45 colts and I think the 454 Casull might be the way to go. My father in law has one I shoot occasionally so I know what I am getting into power wise. The appeal is that I could you is mainly to shoot 45 Colts, but also the occasional 454. Question though, does the 45 Colt lose any accuracy in the 454 revolvers? Also what companies should I look at, current or used. Here are the ones I know of Ruger (If I bought one today it would be the Ruger SRH) Magnum research (don't know much about it, but it seems to be in the same price range as Ruger) Taurus (a little cheaper, but I think I would spend the xtra $$ for the Ruger) Freedom Arms (A little too pricey for ) Am I missing anybody. Anyone have any other recommendations?
  21. Since you like revolvers and already have a carry gun....have you thought about a Ruger SP101 in 22lr. Not great for carry, but would make a heck of a fun range gun But of the 2 you mentioned I would go with the SR9. It would be cheaper to shoot (unless you reload) and the recoil on the LCR might make it a little tough for extended range
  22. Would it be in bad taste to ask how much you gave for it I would love to pick one exactely like that one. That is a sweet looking plinker you got
  23. Come on now don't lie....I can pick up Hi-Points without even looking hard
  24. No they were actually made by a gentleman that goes by Private Schultz Grips. He has a website and makes great grips and is a good person to boot
  25. Ok guys let me put an end to this now. One thing is for certain, they don't make bottom feeders that look like this
