  1. I recently bought the Rock Chucker Supreme Master Reloading Kit  from Midway for $319. RCBS is running a rebate and you can get your choice of $50 or 500 bullets back if you purchase over $300 of their stuff.  Besides what's in the kit, you'll need a set of calipers, dies & shellholders, and a way to trim your cases. The Lee case trimmer cutter and lock stud and the appropriate Lee case length gauge and shellholder are what I ordered for trimming my cases. They're cheap and they get excellent reviews. You'll need a primer pocket reamer if you use .223 brass with military crimps. Then you need to figure out how you want to clean your brass......I ordered a Lyman tumbler, but you can get away a lot cheaper by cleaning your brass in a bucket of water with some lemoshine in it and then laying it out to dry or putting it in the oven for a while at low temperature.

I've had a bunch of fun just shopping for my equipment and deciding what I wanted to get. I just finished building my reloading bench and now I'm getting everything set up on it. I'm almost ready to start! I'm super excited!!! :D

    Have fun!!!

  2. Thanks for all the input guys! The thing that has been confusing me is all the different types of dies. You've got collet dies, body dies, small base dies, full size dies, powder through expanding dies, taper crimp, roll crimp, factory crimp, etc., etc., The more I read, the more I'm learning though.

I use the RCBS carbide. Work well. I saw a set at Walmart today.

Also any time I've needed any parts for the dies, like decapping pins, I've called RCBS and they've sent them N/C. Good folks.

Good to hear that because the RCBS carbide die set is the only one that I was able to find in stock anywhere. I ordered them last night from Sinclair. Hopefully they'll still be in stock when they process my order!

  3. I've been looking around and trying to decide which dies or die set that I need for reloading 9mm. There are so many different types and I am completely confused!

I have a single stage Rock Chucker press and will be using a bench mounted RCBS Uniflow powder measure for loading powder. I'd like to spend less than $75 total.

    Any recommendations?

  4. I got to the show around lunchtime. It was crowded, but it wasn't near as crowded as the last show there. I was surprised. I saw David and stocked up on reloading supplies. Spent a lot more than I had planned, but should have enough powder, brass, bullets and primers to keep me busy reloading for a while....hopefully until things start getting back to somewhat normal anyway.

Raoul, I think I might have been standing right next to you at David's table while you were talking to him. Were you there around 12:00-12:30? I think I heard David call you "Raoul."

Got to give a big "THANK YOU!!!" to David! He is a great guy and if anyone here isn't buying your reloading supplies from him, you should be!

  5. I got myself a brand new 2013 Polaris Ranger 500 crew cab a couple months ago. It is SWEET!!!! I took it out in the big snow last week and had a ball!!! It will go anywhere you point it, effortlessly. I'm planning on taking it up to Royal Blue this spring. I can't wait!!!
  6. You have no idea how nice it is to know I am not the only one.  i got my first gun at 5 and learned to hunt and fish and survive before I learned to drive. Taught my sons to do the same.  I am now with a wonderful man except that he doesn't shoot.  Got any ideas?  I am taking him to a gun show this weekend...if he will go....

I wish I could find something that would get him interested in guns, but I think the chance of that happening is about as high as me getting interested in working on his truck. lol  Although.....he is mechanically inclined.....and I just got all my reloading equipment in (I'm starting a new branch to my hobby! :))......and he has actually been looking at my dies and press and other equipment a little more than he looks at my guns....hmmmmmm.....maybe reloading will be the bait that reels him in! :D

  7. I got my oldest daughter her 1st gun for Christmas this year. She started asking for a gun of her own over the summer when I let her(with my help and careful instruction) shoot for the first time. It's not pink, but she wasn't asking for pink. She wanted bright yellow and that's exactly what she got.

I thought she was a little young for a 22 but I came across one from a friend for about $10 more than I was going to pay for a bb gun and got it for her anyway. She has blasted several balloons so far with 22lr shot shells and has told everybody about it. She was even nice enough to let her little sister give it a try today. (Her sister is 3)

She is only 5 but has been watching me clean, handle, carry, and shoot guns since she was old enough to see, and I have taken the time to patiently answer and show her anything about guns that she has ever asked. I even take her and her little sister squirrel hunting and and let them help me sort and deprime cases, but I'm always careful not to over do it. I let them decide when they are ready to quit and do something else.

Guns are not taboo in my house, but are respected and enjoyed by my family, including my wife who enjoys shooting and hunting with her friends and me.

I hope eventually they will be as into guns, hunting, and shooting as I am.

Good for you, and your wife!!! That's exactly how I was raised.
  8. We got there and  it was really crowded already. To many people in there for me to even breathe normaly.I was getting the heeby jeebys after I thought  someone gave me headlice..( some really nasty people in there) I had to get out of there.
But we got to visit with David a few  minutes and then headed out..
I cant deal with so many people in a small space like.. freaks me out....
I am the same way! I get claustrophobic whenever I'm so crowded in like that.....I feel like I can't breathe and can't escape fast enough!
  9. I went today. Got there at about 1:15 and couldn't believe what I was seeing. I thought it wouldn't be too bad today....boy was I wrong! There were so many people in there that it was impossible to really look at the merchandise. I gave up after about 30 minutes of fighting the crowd. However, it was a good day because I came home with a case of XM193 for me and one for my brother. Got lucky on the second case for my bro...ran into a guy outside selling it for a surprisingly reasonable price. I also got to meet David today and was able to see why he is so popular around here. Very nice guy! I wish it wasn't so crazy at the show and I could have visited with him longer, but he did give me some good advice on what kind of reloading setup would be best for a beginner. Thanks David! :)
