  1. Mark I got online and searched about the buddy heater and it turned out to be a spider and web inside the pilot burner. It would light, but because it wasn't a strong enough flame it wouldn't warm the thermocouple tube to keep the burner working. It took me about 10 minutes to fix it. These are really good heaters although this one is a small 4-9,000 btu model that I bought for keeping a shooting house nice and toasty, it will keep you from freezing. I have a nice ceramic style heater that I had planned on getting hooked up for an emergency, but I didn't get it fixed quick enough. Needless to say I will be getting it fixed as soon as I can get to town. Hope everyone has gotten a small look into what may transpire during a grid down or bad storm. Please take heed at what went right and what failed to an extent.

I have had the same buddy heater sitting in the house ready to go, I didn't need it so I didn't light it. On second thought I will test it tonight. I have a kerosene heater I sat in the garage and a couple Coleman lanterns and a stove that were ready, maybe I will just test them all in the next couple days. Thanks for your post!
  2. Looks grim as seems to only be a GSM device, which as I understand it, means 2G only.

It might still may work out for you.
I think GSM can be 2G, 3G or 4G it just depends on your phone. T-Mobile,and ATT are GSM networks. Your cell company can tell you if your phone will still work. They still make plenty of flip phones that will work on the new networks.

  3. If you keep an older flip phone or brick phone to use for emergencies it won't work for much longer.

"The Wall Street Journal reports that AT&T has plans to shut down its 2G network by January 1, 2017. Roughly 12% of its contact wireless customers — 8.4 million people — have 2G handsets, and the company plans to gradually move them to devices running on more modern networks.
The timeline for the 2G shutdown was made in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Friday. An AT&T spokesman said the company no longer sells 2G handsets to contract or prepaid customers. Along with phones, the company does have some other devices connected to its 2G networks, but it also expects that they will transition to more modern technology in coming years. As the carriers deal with ever increasing data usage on their networks, they also are facing a spectrum shortage. "
  4. I enjoyed my visit to the new Bass Pro! I highly recommend that you go on a weekday. I walked through the whole place. There is a cool duck hunting exhibit on the second floor. The elevator ride 25 floors up to the observation deck ( and bar)was worth the $10 to me. I was lucky to get a look at one of their hotel rooms and they are very nice! I hope to spend the night there one of these days. There is a restaurant and bowling alley. I really did not look at merchandise. The truth is if I was going just to shop I would go to the one in Bartlett. The new basspro is an attraction geared for tourists. That said, I liked it and I will be going back:)

    P.S.

It's down town Memphis, so be aware of your surroundings! Don't leave a bunch of guns in your truck window in the rifle rack when you park! :)
  5. So do you think we might see the aurora borealis yet? No obvious damage to the grid or GPS that I know of. My curiosity was peaked when I saw people posting pictures of the aurora in Pennsylvania and New Hampshire. Supposedly the might possibly be seen as far south as Alabama!
  6. You can order new maps every year. I just ordered for Tennessee and Kentucky. I would imagine all 50 states will send you a map from there tourism dept or highway dept. I remember how we would always get a highway map from all the state rest stops. And of course all the oil companies would give you a "free" map if you stopped for gas.
  7. Oh I think the word is spreading on line about the M885 possible ban. Lots of newspaper articles and editorials. The .223 and 5.56 is drying up on line also. I have not been to a Wally World in months and haven't bought ammo there in years. Am I worried? Nope! Having seen so many of these proposed bans and ammo scares come and go I just don't respond to it anymore. And yes I too have a couple air guns! Airgun pellets are still cheap!
