  1. I am about 20 minutes from there. I still buy most components online at Midway etc as they don't have to charge TNs BS 9.5% sales tax. I still buy primers and powder there as the haz-mat charge is high if you don't by tons at a time.
  2. I bought 2 boxed of 9mm yesterday like that. The trick is to get one of those Dick's Score cards. Every other week they send a e-mail circular with a coupon for 100pts with any purchase. Every 300 points they send you a $10 certificate in the mail then I go buy a box of 45s for 5 bucks.
  3. Being SCOTUS ruled against DC banning a certain type of firearm, Hopefully the same ruling would apply to an AWB as they would be trying to ban a certain type of firearm.
  4. Geesh I didn't intend to start a full blown war of words on here I sometimes open carry because it is more comfortable, cooler without a cover shirt, convenient, oh and legal. So you think I should go out and get one of those HCP badges so people dismiss me as being a cop That aughta start a war of opinions.
  5. Yep I have a bit of the Dicky Doo Disease and this is my carry rig. It a Don Hume IWB just like the one a few posts above with my PT145 and it is very comfortable.
  6. I just got off the phone with the Store manager and she sounded fairly ticked that I was asked to leave. She stated that she grew up in Rogersville around guns and owns a few of her own. She took the cashiers description as well as that of the loss prevention guy. She said it is fairly common to ask someone to cover it so as not to scare other non gun savy customers but that is only if someone complains. But not to ask them to leave. She stated she had only asked one person to leave when she was at another store and that was due to he was carrying 2 .44 revolvers in a western rig, that was scaring the other customers. I explained what happened, and other than employees my wife and I were the only 2 in the store so who complained. She said she would call me back sometime tommorrow as she has to talk to the night crew when they come in tonite. I was actually fairly suprised for Wal-Mart.
  7. There is an update to this on the next page turns out good. Dear Manager, We live in a location in Tennessee where we have easy access to six different Wal-Marts and two Sams Clubs in TN and VA. I work third shift and doing so means I usually shop in the early morning hours usually between 2 and 4 am. This morning my wife and I decided to go to the new Wal-Mart on Market St in Johnson City TN for the first and possibly the last time. This is a weekly trip and we usually spend in upwards of $200. As usual at Wal-Mart the greeter was pleasant and asked how we were doing. We went straight to women’s clothing; I was just standing there while my wife was looking. After a second or two a cashier according to the little yellow tag walked up to me and said rather abruptly “Sir we don’t allow pistols in the store” I advised her I have a valid TN Handgun Carry Permit. At which point she replied “don’t matter you have to leave”. Under TN law if asked to leave I have to so I did. I have carried in the five other Wal-Marts and both Sams and have never had any problems. I sometimes get a curious look, once a stocker asked how she could go about getting a permit. But nothing like this morning. I have 2 problems with what happened this morning as follows: First I have several friends that work at local Wal-Marts and am aware that it is your companies policy that cashiers are not to confront any customer, even shoplifting has to be witnessed by a manager before loss prevention can approach a customer. So why did she say anything at all to me. Far more bizarre to me was the obvious plain clothed loss prevention guy was standing there talking to the cashier as I was walking out. Why was he too much of a coward to say anything, and why are you even paying him. Second I have been fingerprinted, background checked, and trained above and beyond the level that the state requires. It is not someone who is a law-abiding citizen that legally carries a firearm secured in a holster that you have to fear. The ones you want to fear are the criminals who walk through the door with a gun in their hand intent on robbery or killing. You can check it online now; the crime rates are steadily climbing in the Johnson City area. Would you want to walk around in Johnson City with your family at 3am with out some form of protection? The average response time for the JCPD is four minutes by then it is too late, also the JCPD qualifies with their side arms 1hr every other month and most don’t practice anymore than that. So am I willing to bet my and my families lives on someone who is four minutes away with 6hrs training a year? I would think not. Finally keep in mind that there are over 200,000 carry permits in this state. Also keep in mind that Wal-Mart is no longer very competitive, your prices are often beat by grocery stores and we have three new Targets in the area now. I understand there was a recent very near tragedy in a Sams in North Carolina; this was caused by an act of blatant stupidity. Please don’t let the actions of one make us all appear bad to you. Also remember a couple years back a Wal-Mart employee who was being stabbed to death was saved by a customer who was legally carrying in I believe Arizona. I am sending this letter through the website however I will also call the manager of this store during regular hours today. Chip Piney Flats, TN
  8. Welcome from Piney Flats...The North East TN contingent grows larger.
  9. Most handgun rounds I use either 231 or Unique... Be careful with the Bullseye in the .357 I forgot the exact reason as it was explained to me, However I loaded what was listed in my lyman book as middle of the road and it caused the brass to expand to the point I had to knock the brass out with a cleaning rod.
  10. I work in Printing which unfortunately has it's ups and downs throughout the year. Usually from now until Feb are our slowest months.
  11. Both Cherokee, Unaka, and Kettlefoot cost to be members. I usually go up to the $2 range in Unicoi but I only have a 1/4 tank left in the truck. HUH? I just woke up brain isn't functioning yet.
  12. Great job! I hopped up one for my wife a few years back because she is a southpaw. I used a Fajen LH Thumbhole stock and a ss fluted BBL, and a Burris 3-9x40 scope. Very easy project to do.
  13. In there anyone in close proximity to Tri-Cities airport, Muddy Creek Rd, That can shoot and allow me to on their property? I traded for a new gun and would like to shoot it some before I start carrying it. I am laid off and am not getting called back until the 6th so I cant afford to burn the gas to Unicoi to go shooting. Chip
  14. Though I live here in TN I have never hunted here. Check the law first! Where I used to hunt in WV you were not allowed to use a straight walled round less that .44! The first time I went hunting I was really surprised. I assume due to adrenaline I didn't really hear the report or feel the recoil of the 30.06 I was hunting with. Hearing protection would be the safest bet though I don't where them due to the fact as the sun is barely up and most of the time I hear them before I see them. I would go with the Mosin just for the added range. I would also look into reloading some 7.62x54 with Nosler Partition or a like bullet. The shorter distanse it runs the shorter distance you have to haul it back to the truck.
  15. I always get some ground. A few lbs of ground venison browned throw it in a crock pot on low with a bottle of Heinz ketchup and make sloppy joe. Also makes a mean chili, I just use 2 lbs ground venison, 2 packs Great Value (wal-mart) hot or mild chili mix, 2 cans of GV dark red kidney beans, 2 cans of GV chili ready tomatoes. Follow the directions on the chili mix packet (doubled)
  16. I load 9mm, .38, .357, .45acp, and 223 on a Lyman T-mag started roughly around 1994.
  17. Wow I think you are going to have fun with this question. The most basic and easiest to teach people how to shoot is a revolver. They are also great home defense guns as there is no fumbling if you pull it goes bang. You would have to decide on a caliber, the most common for HD is .38 or .357 The wide variety of autos out there is overwhelming. I would suggest you go to a range that rents guns or hook up with someone that has a collection that will let you try the different calibers styles and actions. Your question is so vague, I dont believe you will get a single answer that you like.
  18. Thats awesome How much would you charge to make another one for the Don Hume IWB? The only thing I would want different is the J bent the opposite way to hook over the belt not behind it.
  19. Now I just have to find a holster I like for it.
  20. The Glock was sitting in the safe for 3 yrs without being shot, kind of a miserable existence for a gun. I have nothing against Glocks but the 17 was too big to carry and my 4516 is heavy but tolerable. So I think I actually upgraded, something I never shot for something I will shoot. I'm not a fan of collecting just to look at them I enjoy shooting them more. Taurus is a fine gun I have shot them in the past, I shot my buddies 9mm version alot before I bought this one.
  21. I put my 2nd gen g17 on the eastman paper last night and sold it within 10 mins. So today I took the 375 I got for it and bought this for a new carry piece. Taurus PT145
  22. I very rarely shoot the glock, most of the time when I go to the range I shoot my carry gun(s) the glock is just too big for me to carry comfortably. My S&W 4516 is carry able but heavy. It has been sitting in my safe lonely unfired for about 3 yrs now. So I was going to trade for a good carry gun that will be shot regularly.
  23. The going rate for the PT 145/745 is avg 340+/- the Glock 17 is roughly the same on all the auction sites. I am throwing in 2 extra 17rd mags so 4 17rd mags to sweeten the deal.
  24. I am farting around with the idea of taking my G17 2nd gen in to trade hopefully outright for a PT145 or PT745 the value of these guns are about dead equal. If I were to do a even exchange of guns where no money changes hands do I still have to pay the BS 9.5% sales tax down here?? I Know I will have to pay at least 10 tics. unless he has already included that in the price of the gun.
