  1. I am very happy with the way this particular project turned out. It all started with the purchase of a Yugo Tokarev and took off from there. After my first trip to the range with this weapon, I knew it needed a bit of tuning. So I did a trigger job on it and also smoothed out the operation of the safety. I did a few other tweaks and some action polishing here and there and also upgraded the magazine. It felt so much better. So much so that I thought it deserved to look as good as it functioned. It took a while to decide on the two-tone DuraCoat colors but I eventually settled on Gold and matte black, with a coat or two of clear matte over the basic gold finish to tone the metallic gold down a bit. So here she is. Some may not like the colors but it looks great in person. Next project is a two-tone CZ-52.....Black & Titanium.
  2. I am looking for a CZ-52 in 7.62 X 25.  If you have one to sell or trade,, please contact me.  Thanks.

  4. My Yugo Tokarev had a very heavy, gritty trigger and a very hard to operate safety.  The rough safety contributed to function issues too.  I decided to attack the problems head on and I am very pleased with the results.   I took the pistol apart, smoothed (with fine wet & dry sandpaper) and mirror polished every part that had anyting to do with the trigger.  I adjusted the trigger spring to ease the trigger pull and I smoothed and mirror polished every surface of the safety.  I also adjusted the safety spring and re-oriented the spring where it contacted the frame.  All parts were lightly greased and it feels really good.  It is worlds better than before.   It feels like a different pistol.
  5. I love my P1.  It is so comfortable to shoot and the trigger is great.  I can't find a thing wrong with it.    I have had a similar experience with Soughern Ohio Guns.  I purchased a Tokarev and paid extra for hand picked.  The first one arrived with no front sight blade.  So much for "hand picked".  The second one they sent would not fire when the trigger was pulled.  The hammer would hang.  Finally, the third pistol they sent functioned as designed.  In the future I would never again pay for "hand picked" from SOG.  My experience has proved it to be a scam to rake in an additional 10 bucks.  Oh, and then there is their "triple-check" before shipping.  So much for that too.
  6. I had a Mauser problem once.  It took an active intervention by my wife and friends to get me off the brand.  It started out innocent enough with a few minor tweeks but then,,,,,,I dove into the hard stuff.  Yeah....I admit it....I did.  Re-barreling, re-stocking, custom this and custom that....Mausermania had a hold on me and now I am a reformed Mausermaniac.  I only own one now and I am staying away from the hard stuff.   Although the allure is strong.  Oh, the calibers, the accuracy, the beauty that captivates me.  I.....must......not....think.....about.....them.........(I am retired now and I can't afford to think about them......LOL).
  7. Well, I knew I was not alone here.  It is a blast and I love working with my hands and creating something that I can hold up, shoot and appreciate.  Guns have a natural beauty of their own.  The design and engineering is something that I can never get enough of.  I will tinker till I die.... :usa:
  8. I love C&R projects. But......I can get a bit carried away at times. Once I get into a project, I tend to go well beyond my "original" plan. I purchased a Mosin carbine about ten years ago and got this wild hair to turn it into the ultimate, lightweight field rifle. Or, as some here have correctly hinted....money down a rabbit hole (that I'll never see again). The finished product is here: The original plan was to simply figure out a scope mount. So, I drilled and tapped the receiver for a scope rail and mounted a Sightron scope. Hmmmmmmm....then I had the bolt handle custom bent and I lapped the bolt. Oops...that bayonet mount has to go....so I removed about 3" of barrel, crowned the barrel and then made a muzzle brake for it using some brass bar stock and my lathe. Still screwing around....next came the custom "ball bearing" trigger and custom composite stock. However, after installing the composite stock, I was not at all happy with the way it fit. Soooooo, I sold the new composite stock (at a loss, naturally) and I cut and reworked the standard stock, bedding the action for a nice fit. After all of that, I decided to DuraCoat the entire rifle. I fired it a few times to sight it in and then it became a safe queen. I just sold it last year. It must be a sickness within me. I just can't leave stuff alone. I have to tweek it here and there and try to make it prettier, more reliable and more accurate. For me, that's the fun part about the C&R license. I think the original Mosin cost me about $60.00 and I would be ashamed to tell you what I put into it.
  9. Thanks for your compliments on the Star.  The C&R license gives project guys like me an opportunity to make something look new again.
  10. I will bet your pistol's issues are magazine related. You'll get her straightened out with a little tweek here and there.
  11. Just finished a Star Model B project pistol. This pistol was a C&R piece and is a vintage 1945. The frame and slide were Ceracoated as a two-tone finish and the grips were replaced with custom wood. I also made a small part for the safety detent. It is a very nice shooter and shooting 9MM para out of this .45 clone makes for tame recoil.
  12. I love motorcycles. Last May my son and I did a 5500-mile trip through a bunch of states. I ride a Honda VTX1300R and my son rides a 750 Honda Shadow. Both bikes purrrrrred like kittens for the whole trip. We cruised at a nice, relaxed 75-MPH and had a blast. We did 23 states and loved every minute of it.
  13. It was a pleasure meeting you also Mike. Thanks for turning me on to this site. We moved from Huntington Beach, "Surf City U.S.A." It is a nice town but they over developed it. It went from a nice beach town to a major tourist attraction. Waaaay too many people, scum from LA on the weekends, it just lost its small town flavor. That, and the fact that it's in Kommiefornia. Free at last, free at last....
  14. There is no cure for stupid. I have met people with advanced college degrees that don't have the common sense my dog has. God has a good sense of humor. I am surprised that the shop does not have a "clear all firearms before entry" policy.
  15. Hunt them the right way. Learn how at http://www.redhunterllc.com Contact me if I can help at all. Red
  16. I am in the optics business and I will not badmouth other brands. However I will say that DangerRanger and the others are correct. Save your money and purchase decent optics. Especially products that you can rely upon. I am also a dedicated coyote hunter and have been so for 20-years. I have had experience with many brands of optics on a variety of firearms. No brand is 100% free of failures but certain brands are noted for failures. My business partner and I shop the Shot Show every year looking at and evaluating optics that are good quality and reasonably priced. We could sell certain brands and make a hefty profit but we don't want to have to deal with a lot of returns. It's bad for business. Especially in this day and age where poor products or poor customer service can ruin a company's reputation fast.
  17. Just moved here fron Southern California and have only been here for a month. My wife and I absolutely love Tennessee, the people, the pace and the beautiful countryside. We don't miss California one single bit. It's also nice to be out from under all of the restrictive gun laws and never ending regulations. We refer to our move as "moving to America". I am a dedicated predator caller/hunter and once we get settled in, I am looking forward to doing some hunting. Right now, we are still living out of moving boxes. I am looking forward to some interaction here. Red
