I have little respect for the Mt. Juliet police department.  That said, when they began talk of their license plate readers I was adamantly against the idea for reasons related to privacy, and fear that the system would be used by that department in a way in which it wasn't intended.  Almost 3 years later I will admit that I was wrong.  It seems that nearly a day can not pass without a stolen car being recovered.  Not surprisingly, it seems that the majority of the stolen cars are driven by wanted felons, usually from Davidson County.  (The local thugs know better than to run stolen plates in Mt. Juliet.) I saw these stats posted this morning so I thought that I would pass them along.  I hear a lot of bad things from credible people about the way that the Mt. Juliet Police Department is run, but I haven't heard a single thing in 3 years about these cameras being used inappropriately.

This is always my fear when I hear of technology such as license plate readers. It reminds me of the 'red light cameras' several years ago. Nothing wrong with the technology until cities started 'adjusting' the yellow light timing to create more revenue.

The technology isn't the problem; its how people in power misuse it.

  2. I've yet to hear of the plate readers being misused in Mt Juliet. They have resulted in several stolen vehicle recoveries and felony arrests.

In no way does this mean metro is going to follow the same operating principles. Technology like this is ripe for abuse - if the department allows it.

    I wish

I'm guessing its an older home. When we moved to Huntsville, we bought a 30% larger house. But being 23+ years newer construction, it was much, much more energy efficient. Our utility bills went down significantly.

Either this, or you have a fleet of electric cars 😀

When we took our carry permit class, a young lady next to me was shooting a model 60 with full house loads to qualify. She passed, barely, but she sure looked miserable. I felt sorry for her and also admired her tenacity.

If anyone thinks shooting a 60 with 357s is bad, they should not try a 340PD! The 60 is significantly heavier.

  5. There obviously isn't one ultimate 38/357 revolver. It all depends on what you want. S&W and Colt make great revolvers which can be passed down generations. But finding an older, nice, and affordable Colt Python of S&W model 19 isn't easy. Both Ruger and S&W make great carry guns. Several companies make S&W clones which are inexpensive.

It all depends on what your needs (or wants) are for the gun.

The 340PD is probably the ultimate J-Frame sized .357/.38 pistol.  It’s lightweight and just disappears.

That light weight also might cure you of wanting to shoot it a bunch with full house .357 loads.

I've got a 360PD and shooting 357s will make you want to buy a 22! I'd rather just hit my hand with a hammer a few times and save the money. It is a great pocket carry gun.

  7. I have a minty Glock 19 MOS up for sale. It comes with everything from the factory. It has a Glock extended slide stop and 3.5# connector installed but comes with the factory parts. Has approximately 100 rounds through it. I made the mistake of handling a Glock model 45!

Sold - thanks for the interest.

  8. Welcome to the zoo - most of the animals are pretty easy to get along with. I used TGO to stay connected to normal people when I spent 4 long, long, long years out of state. Thankfully, I'm back in middle TN!

Glad to have you participating Scotty.
