Are these really the only states with reciprocity?
Marswolf replied to Branket's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I have a question. Take a look at this map from http://www.gunmap.org/. They show a bunch of states, including California, as open carry without a permit (Ohio too). Is this right?????????????? I know that Virginia and Tennessee are correct. -
Boy, I'm getting nostalgic. I think things were better when you could get a gun delivered to your house by mail or pick one up at the hardware store without a background check. And also before helmet and seatbelt laws, drug task forces, MADD. Medicare/Medicaid, anti-smoking laws and other nanny-state programs. Can we just pass an omnibus act to eliminate all laws passed since 1957? OH GOD...THERE GO MY "ENTITLEMENTS."

I think you are very wise - grasshopper. While I have access to, and generally use, the best tools for the job at hand, I've always prided myself on learning to use and compensate for more affordable weapons. That means not just firearms, but knives and other survival tools. I'm certainly not Mr. Special Ops, especially as I've gotten older. But I do know how to do a few things. And all along I have worked with some people who are very good at that Ops thing. That's why I have so little regard for the fat-ass doughnut stuffing wannabes who take a training class and think they are Rambo. -

In your situation, if you shoot someone with an AK in self defense, you will be on CNN. -

That's just for formal reciprocity. http://handgunlaw.us/maps/tennessee_map.gif Add Nevada to the states that honor Tennessee carry permits as of Monday. [edit] This map is now correct. Nevada is now shown correctly. -
I'm pretty good at figuring out what happened in situations based on pretty skimpy information. Sometimes it has to stew a while before the light bulb goes on. (How's that for a ****ed-up metaphor? ) I have a very strong feeling that the CC guy needs to do a lot of growing up. I'm betting that we would never be best buddies. I don't have a lot of use for mindless blowhards. That doesn't excuse the cop's lying, but explains how things got out of hand.

Me? I'm just an old guy with an unusual skill set. Ever notice how hot AK fore grips get after a couple of hundred rounds? -

Not sure about them being a "robust" design. Awful lot of cheap stamped metal in the things, even the ones with the milled receivers. But yes, they are a sloppy fit weapon and so you can get away with being sloppy on maintenance. Don't get me wrong, I have an AK and have been shot by one. I have a lot of respect for them. But I'll take a precision weapon over one that just doesn't require as much maintenance any day. It has to be reliable, but I'm willing to do my part to insure that it is reliable. I'll take an AK for closer range "brush shots" but something more accurate and that better fits me ergonomically is my preference for everything else. -
I never got stopped for drinking around here. When I lived in Raleigh in the 70s, my friend Jack and I decided to go to the beach after we closed down the bars, so ended up at the seashore buying beer at a convenience store. Some cop came by and suggested we should go home instead. We did. Then there was the time in Durham that we were out and had to relieve ourselves. So we just got out of the car on this dark road and let nature give us some room for more beer. Unfortunately our timing was off a bit and a cop happened to come by at just that time on a side road. He suggested we go back to Raleigh. Again, we did. These days we'd have been under the jail.

A appreciate the honest answer, Dave. The reason cops look the other way when cops break the law is just because that's the way it's done. But if someone changed the unofficial rules to where cops didn't look the other way, I think LEOs would be respected more by the public and the city and county commissions that determine their salary. I think there is a price paid for looking the other way.

Last serious run in I had with stairs was in the old gym at UT. Made me drop out of handball class and I used crutches for a couple of weeks. I still gotta learn that Crouching Tiger, Puking Dragon, or whatever, thing where you walk on the walls.

It's easy to have a brain fart and double load a cartridge. With some powders, I reweigh all the rounds after I've loaded them to see if they are within normal range. -
This is far too true. And it could be 1967 rather than 1957. I was the mad bomber in my neighborhood in the mid 60s. The cops came and told me to cool it and I did. Hate to think what would happen to me today. And we won't even talk about drinking and driving in the 70s.

Boy...my way is a lot simpler.... -
That's what I thought, but some LEOs have told me otherwise. I don't know.

It's really a moot point. All the parks are posted.

I'll go for the AK as a club. But I agree Tower, there are better weapons systems IMHO. -
A couple of other points, now that I've had a cup of coffee.... Wheeler claims that the Syrian AA defense network didn't even light up. That means it wasn't jammed. Then he says the Israelis used either F-15 Eagles or F-16 Fighting Falcons. No way to make either of those completely stealthy. The story doesn't make any sense.

One local shop ran the sale first, but charged $30 if it didn't eventually go through.

Opinion? Well, it it was any of a dozen Intel sources I know like Austin Bay or Jim Dunnigan, (or me), I'd pay attention to it. But Wheeler is a self-promoting "conservative" flake.

Oh, your basic radon home. My place is ON the side of a hill, but all above the lay of the land. If I ever flood, Kingsport will be under 400 feet of water.
