Hey Joe... doesn't Eddie have an outstanding tab at Hero Gear now?
Marswolf replied to TGO David's topic in General Chat
Drainage of what? We haven't had anything to drain in months. -
It's not as simple as that. This gets back to handguns not being listed in 39-17-1302 that relates to weapons not allowed in parks. However, all state parks I know of are posted with a slashed handgun sign. If those signs were there by July 1, 2000, under TCA they are legal to prevent your carry. Actually, Handgunlaw.us is correct in my opinion, but I wouldn't want to be the test case.

You going to bury someone or just need someone to hide in it for you? -
Agreed. Or they vote for candidates they know can't win. Hmmm...I think I once voted for Ross Perot....

I always just add enough periods to make the minimum..................

This gets back to that professionalism thing I've talked about. I know a lot of LEOs who speed and do other stuff specifically because they know they will get away with it if caught. That's not professional, and should not be accepted as the norm by other LEOs. Everyone should be treated equally. While a lot (most) LEOs think it's pretty neat to get away with stuff like this, I still claim that it degrades the profession in the eyes of the public and good officers, causes resentment and disrespect for LEOs, and leads to lower pay in the field because behavior like this causes a perception that it is not a professional position. I am a strong supporter of professional law enforcement. I'm just not willing to ignore the yahoos who are in the profession and fail to live up to professional standards. Letting your buddies get away with doing things the public would be ticketed for is not acting professionally. Sorry.

So are the candidates mentioned....

As I understand it, the LEO doesn't necessarily know you have a permit. They have to ask for that info. But is a really good idea to tell the officer you have a legal gun in case it becomes uncovered during a stop. Cops just hate surprises.

You know, I hate to say it, but I don't guess my idea of teaching logic would work. Figuring out that someone is using a technique to trick you requires some degree of intelligence. Here's a depressing mental task for you. Imagine a person who is of average intelligence in this country. Right in the middle of the intelligence spectrum. Half of the people in America are dumber than that. And they get to vote....

The basic facts don't seem to be in dispute. And I'm sure that much of the brotherhood will close ranks around the officer - at least officially. But cops really don't care much for ****-heads in their ranks. I'll bet he's gone from KPD within a year. He'll probably be teaching at some gun school in...well, never mind.

Regrettably true. I got married. That put an end to sex. -
How about Howdie Doodie and Clarabelle? Be as likely to win.

Good comments here; mostly idiotic comments at PBS. I've never had any problems with the M16, my AR-15 or mt AK-47. All work just fine. In a pinch, I'd grab the M16 unless I was doing a bunch of "brush shots" when accuracy wouldn't matter but bullet mass might. In Iraq, Marines have been known to clean their M16s up to four times a day before they changed to a dryer lube. Nothing wrong with the rifle as long as you take care of it.

Maybe an avatar like this or Trustex Extra Large? -
I still really-really like the USP. I know the grip size bothers some people. I have smaller hands than a lot of folks, but guess I got used to the larger wooden factory grips on my Beretta 92, so the USP feels natural to me. If they had the USP full size in 357 SIG, I'd already have one and probably not be looking at the P2000.

I'd love to see the videos of this incident. And I'm not surprised about the whining site that you referenced, Mark. Unfortunately, there are a lot of cops who speed and do other stuff, "just because I can." That's why I keep hammering home the idea of LEOs acting professionally. Behavior like that displayed on that page is not in keeping with the idea of professionalism. LE is supposed to be a position of service, not special privilege. But I couldn't be a cop. Eventually someone would put together that all of the ****-bags who disappeared were on my shift and that I know how to hide bodies so that even cadaver dogs can't find them.

East Tn TGO Members SEPTEMBER 2007 Meet
Marswolf replied to Marswolf's topic in Events and Gatherings
Just moving this off the sticky list, but it will stay open. -
Glocks are getting better. Another 18 years of development and they might be acceptable. Tungsten, I got a chance to play with a P2000 a couple of days ago. Unfortunately not a V3. I like so much about the weapon, but agree that the LEM isn't for me either. Please ship me your V3 for a couple of weeks to see if I like it.

My wife and I think this should be taught in elementary school and followed up with an annual refresher course.

Hey...I like that. Quote yourself and then respond. Reminds me of Braxton Bragg requisitioning something and then turning himself down as temporary base commander.

NOW YOU'VE DONE IT!!! I'd like to be King of the Forest and dictate how things should be done. I'm still up for taking over a Caribbean island country if anyone wants to help. I've done a bit more thinking about the initial newspaper report of this incident. Officer Greene knew Ohio has open carry even without a permit. I'm betting he knew Tennessee has it with a permit. He lied about why he stopped the CC guy. He got caught and he lied. (And Internal Affairs let him get away with it) I'm betting that his jerk radar went off and he made a bad decision to talk to the subject - which was fine to determine if the packer had a permit. Perfectly proper under Tennessee Code. Perfectly proper under police procedure. Jerk + gun = problem. Subject decided to be a smart-ass and pissed off the cop who escalated the matter. In short, it looks to me like we actually have two jerks in this situation. One is an officer and the other is an idiot member of the public who thinks he's being cool by OCing.

Len, back in my undergraduate days, between my running to classes trying to not get eaten by dinosaurs , I was asked to critique some research being done by one of the department chairmen at my university. I know...that's hard to believe, but actually is true. Long story.... Anyway, this one research project was a real mess. All sorts of dubious "conclusions" that didn't follow logically at all. Gave me a healthy disrespect for scientific studies that I carry to this day.

I'll have to share that, Tower. A bit more on the guy at CC who got "harassed." Word around KPD is that the gun was only part of the problem. The guy copped a real attitude, which seems to be consistent with what I am hearing about him here. If you are a cop who has someone with an attitude and a gun, you have a problem. Truth tends to come out in the interplay of facts. My conclusion is that the cop was wrong to have stopped the guy for open carry. But the guy carrying is a twerp who doesn't carry for protection but for false machismo. Exactly the kind of person who should not carry, either open or concealed.
