    Food & Drink

When I eat breakfast, it is usually for dinner.
  2. I wanted to go to Phil's, but they close at 7pm and I don't get off work til usually after 6. I can't make the drive in time. I'll have to check it out on a Sat. We ended up going to Dixie Outpost in Blountville for pulled pork sandwich and sides. It was pretty good.

Thanks for the chimichanga recipe. I'll have to try that soon. I made it to Dixie Outpost in Blountville for dinner tonight. First visit there and it was good. They have about 8 sauces to choose from and are pretty standard except for one made with mountain dew. I tried a sample of it and it wasn't bad. I just went with the regular bbq sauce. Sides were a "pick 3" deal and I chose Fried taters, okra, and beans. My wife had potato salad and said that it was good. We both ate well and had some sides leftover. She got a hot dog called "The Stinky". It had lots of garlic and onions. She said it was good. They have about 15 varieties of specialty hot dogs. All that with a cup of banana pudding each and two drinks came to $27. Not bad for all the food and extras we got and even had some leftovers.
  4. I know people on both sides. Some aren't impressed, some swear by it. I think it is good, personally. I believe that over the years, it has just built up so much hype and word of mouth, because there really were not that many other places competing. Pardner's is right up the road, but similar. Now, there are more and more bbq places and other options popping up. Maybe for the locals here, it's the best bbq they've ever had, because they haven't had much else. I can see someone after hearing about it from so many people, having their expectations set so high that good bbq becomes average because it doesn't live up to the hype. I think when people go in for the first time, they are expecting the best food they've ever had. I can see how it would be disappointing to some. I've always been satisfied there, but can see everyone's point, especially if you've had top notch bbq across the state. I need to branch out a bit more, but don't travel often. Have a good night.

After reading through the BBQ thread and then your reply here, I think ribs are in order for tonight.
  6. Same here. Not only that, but the welcome and insight from all members as well. I'm new to guns and have mostly been just reading, but feel welcomed here and have been treated as if I've been here forever. I try to stop in the chat room often and have had a great experience with that and in getting to know the "regulars" in there. I just wanted to voice my appreciation to staff and members.

    Food & Drink

I'm seeing lots of food related stuff on here recently: Chick-Fil-A threads, BBQ threads, Real Men thread talking about cooking, Kraut posting seafood platter, and even some discussion in chat room the other night about pawpaws. I thought maybe we could put up a thread where we can talk all things food/drink related. I searched and saw some random threads, but nothing really ongoing. Apologies if one already exists and I overlooked. If you have a good recipe to share, a restaurant to recommend, a certain dish at a certain place, beer recommendations, etc., throw it out there. A place I was at before had a "What's for dinner?" thread, where everyone posted pictures or something about their dinner and it took off pretty good. So, from a good ol' fried bologna sandwich to your favorite lobster dinner, let's see what's on the menu.
  8. I'll have to try some of the ribs at Phil's. I haven't been there yet. Thanks for the tip, though. I'm always down for a good rack of ribs. I'll try it next weekend, once the race and fair traffic clears out. Have a good one.
  9. I know it is a thread for Knoxville, but Ridgewood BBQ is the most popular here in the Tri-Cities and is pretty well known. It's definitely worth a visit if any of you are up this way. I haven't tried the places mentioned in this thread because I'm not in Knoxville that often. We do have Cade's Cove bbq in our tent at the races and it is pretty good.
  10. That was clearly one of those high powered AK-47 guns. I've seen them on the news. All kidding aside, this is one of the best shows ever. My wife and I both love it. I was late watching the last episode, so I had to avoid this thread.
  11. I'm not sure about online, but I've found some 525 packs of Blazer .22lr for closeout at $14.99 at Mahoney's here. I actually get it at the Abingdon store. I'm not sure if JC store has them. I've bought about 5 of them so far. I just got my .22 so haven't really purchased anywhere else. Myself and a buddy of mine (who had problems with jams from previous ammo) shot about 150 each from our separate boxes with 0 problems. Not sure if this is helpful to you, but any others in the area may be able to get to the one in Abingdon if they are close by. Good luck with your search. Edit: They have a couple of cases left with 10 boxes in each. If you are looking for that much, I think they told my buddy they would even knock off a few more bucks if you bought a case. Not 100% sure on that though.
  12. Reminds me of when I was in Detroit for 1 week business trip a few years ago and went to a little mom and pop's type pizza place. I ordered and when the guy asked if that was all, I said "Yes, Sir." He followed with "You aren't from here, are you?" I said that my southern accent was a dead giveaway and he came back with "No. I've been working here for 5 yrs and don't think anyone has ever called me sir." I agree with Sour Kraut too, that there are plenty of rude people here as well. But, I'll take my rude fellow country folks over the rude city folks any day!
  13. I had a lot of fun with it. I have lots of practicing to do, that's for sure. I'll probably go back tomorrow and might put the scope on it and try it out. I just wanted to get familiar with the gun a bit today, and see how good (or bad) of a shot I am. Hope you have a good rest of your weekend.
  14. I took the gun to the range this morning. It seems to be a good gun. I didn't have any problems at all with it. I'm a beginner, so I have some stuff I need to work on, but the gun was doing what it needed to do. Shooting with iron sights at 25 yds, 8" target. I shot low & right at first. Friend made some adjustments for me and then I was shooting high but seemed to be centered pretty good. One more adjustment and then worked a bit on mechanics and I was shooting down and to left a little, but I was happy with it overall for my first time shooting in years. Very happy with the gun for the price range. Now I just need to practice, practice, practice.
  15. Hi Murzor. What part of TN will you be in? Hope you enjoy your stay.
  16. Thanks for the reply. I sure could use about 16 extra magazines! I'll let you know how it does on Saturday. Have a good night.
  17. My Mossberg 802 Plinkster .22 bolt-action came in yesterday. I won't be able to shoot it until Saturday, but really look forward to it. I wasn't sure how the sport grip would feel, but I really like it. It has a good feel to it. I picked up a $30 Bushnell scope for it. The scope seemed to get decent reviews for the price. I'm going to shoot with just the sights for awhile first and then try the scope out. I'll try to get some pictures from the range and provide an update on Saturday. I'll be shooting this and a '94 model Winchester 30-30. Should be a great day. I'm very excited about it. P.S. - I don't have much advice to offer on guns, but if you ever need to know what a 525 round box of .22 Blazers falling off a table and hitting the laminate flooring and spilling everywhere sounds like......I'm your guy.
  18. Hello. I've enjoyed reading through the site. Thought I'd drop in and say hi. I'm just your average guy trying to do the best I can to make a living, be a good person, protect my family and myself, and have a little fun along the way. I've got a lot to learn and realize that. You all seem to be a close and knowledgeable group/community. I'm glad to have found it and proud to be a Tennessee gun owner. Take care.
  19. Thanks for the heads up. I'm fairly new with all this and have just been looking around. Price doesn't seem bad for a year and it is not that far of a drive for me if the place is nice. Thanks again.
  20. JW, I'm new on the forum here and I live in the Tri-Cities area. I'd like to make the trip one weekend to Greeneville for some shooting. I have a .22 on order and it should be here this coming week. I'm looking for some good places to shoot. Thanks for the link.
