FG and Alberto knots are both pretty easy to tiE and work well on tiny lines/leaders.  With thin braid like the Suffix Ghost, I may do 15-20 turns.

That said, don’t shy away from just loading up some simple monofilament and going fishing.

agreed on just going fishing.  Going to learn both those knots.

If I had to go through and just pick one color - it would be chartreuse/white.

If the water is really cloudy I might go with a chartreuse/black or straight black.

Like above, I don't know that I've ever failed to catch something on a trout magnet. And rigged ultralight it's so much fun - my goto is a St. Croix panfish rod and a 500 size Penn Battle III rigged with 6lbs Suffix Ghost and topped with 2lbs flourocarbon leader.

How long of a leader are you running?  18". What knot do you use t tie the leader, and hook?    Thanks for the tips guys.  I"m going rod/reel/line shopping this weekend!

I hit Defeated Creek for an afternoon, then the next morning two weekends ago.  BIG bluegill were spawning.  Caught around 50 each day on my ultra light running 2lb line and a 1/64oz trout magnet.  Fun stuff!

so I've not used a trout magnet before.  What color bait are you using?  I saw some pink in a quick google search.  I want to build myself an ultralight rig.  Any detail on yours is appreciated.

My best friend has the repro Winchester Mod 52 made by Miroku in Japan. Whenever he pits his rifle against my CZ 452 American, sometimes he wins, sometimes I win - but the match usually ends in a very close draw.

His Mod 52 is a bit more finicky about ammo than my CZ. Either way, they're both fine rifles.

Thank you for the comparison.  I'm still on the fence as to whether or not I want to tie up the cash or just go with a CZ.  Appreciate the shared experience.

They are nice rifles.   I have had both the browning version (52C) and the Winchester version (52B).  They are about like any other rifle out there today, some shoot great, some not so much.   I have shot some originals and the same holds true.  Some are better than others although they probably have less variation than new ones, but they were also no slam dunk.  Unless you want to spend thousands on a real 52C Sporter it's about your only option.  If possible, try to find them with the rings.  The browning rings can be a bit hard to find at times.

Only reason I sold mine is I didn't shoot them and I have kind of got out of keeping guns I never shoot.

The one I’m looking at has rings and a weaver scope mounted. It’s clean enough but I’m suspect that a CZ would outshoot it and well best it for value.   Still, I’m tempted.

  6. I've been looking to buy a Model 52 for a bit, and have just run across a reproduction made in Japan.  My research has produced mixed info.  Some say the rifles shoot great, others say they don't shoot as well as the original models.  Anyone have first hand experience with these reproduction models from Japan?

There are certain email hosts that have historically just not worked for us.  Yahoo and a few others.  GMail has almost always worked.

Well, I'm not sure how that's relevant, as I was browsing the site when getting these alerts in-between each page view.  Nothing to do with actually receiving emails.  In fact, I had received an email minutes earlier altering me of content change on the site.

I keep getting forced to back to the error page, even now.  I have re-entered my email address (Gmail) multiple times in the last 10 minutes, and it keeps forcing me to re-enter it.

same here.  I used a different account and that fixed things for me.  I'l change it back to the gmail account and see if it complains once again.

I had a similair issue with my comcast.net account. Still isn't working, actually, but I monitor activity feeds through the website.

I was unable to use/navigate the site as every page load presented the 'change your password' alert.  Nothing to do with actually getting emails from the site related to activity.

  10. I was unable to login and stay logged in past one page without getting a notice that the email address I was using was no longer accepting emails. Was my gmail addy. I finally relented and changed to another addy and resolved the issue.

What gives?  Is this possibly related to the widespread google outages yesterday?

It really all depends.  I’m no expert but based on the pics it’s at least a $1,500 pistol.  Originality has everything to do with it.

There is a website that everyone on the CMP 1911 forum directs everyone to for specific parts ID.  I’d start there to at least figure out what you have.

So 1800 could be grossly overpriced.  I saw some estimates over 3 but I’m suspect at values that high for what might be gotten from CMP nowadays. Or so I’m told. Waiting list are infinite.

CMP sells them with a certificate of authenticity for… Service Grade $1050, Field Grade $950, Rack Grade $850. That’s the scale I would use for determining value, if you can determine it’s the real deal. Many people will pay more because they don’t want to jump through the hoops to buy from CMP.

Is this by chance a CMP gun with a certificate?

    No certificate here.
