  1. Hyaloid, This would cover you if some one was "looting" in your kitchen drawer.
  2. None of that was Need to Know Mr. Wolf!!
  3. Getting vaccines for one thing or another? Planning on going somewhere, Mars;)? Nudge, Nudge, Know what I mean?
  4. That is what I am looking at doing dk. I don't like the thought of her being out with the kids with out a way to take care of themselves. Legality question. My wife does not have a permit, I can still keep an UNLOADED and LOCKED pistol in the car as long as it isn't stored with the Ammo. Say put it under the back seat and the ammo with the spare?
  5. Answer HONESTLY: What "survival" gear do you KEEP in your vehicle should it break down and you need it? Personally, I am just starting this so I have very little, but it consists of a pancho and some tie-down straps. I figure I can use the pancho as shelter if need be, and the tie down straps might help pull me out though they aren't rated for it, they couldn't hurt. I plan on adding to it.
  6. Tungsten, Thank you for making a point about the BSG (boy scout guide.) I wouldn't recommend RELYING on it solely for survival, but if you have one (or can get one which shouldn't be too hard) it would be a good thing to keep in the car.
  7. Beretta makes a quality product. They have been in business a long time and don't usually bring anything to market that won't work right the first and every time. That being said, I still recommend going out and handling as many as you possibly can to get the gun that fits right. The first gun I bought was a Beretta 92FS because I had used one in the military. I knew how it fit and how to work it. Then I bought a Glock, again, it fit right. Then the 1911. It fit well too. But I handled about 100 guns in the mean time and I knew what I didn't like.
  8. The problem is, first they tell you to bring rain gear, layer able clothing, rain gear and gloves, and then they tell you not to bring space blankets etc. My point is, are you going for survival where your car has run off the road or where you are out camping or what? It makes a difference. Granted the basic rules will be the same, but one thing that makes sense to have on hand (believe it or not) would be a boy scout manual. There is a TON of useful information in there. Many of the "skills" that you would need to survive in the wilderness are taught there. Now, I would be interested in learning what all needs to be in a GOOD survival pack. I keep adding things to my jeep that I think I might need should I break down somewhere and have to trek out etc. Thoughts?
  9. Sorry, I guess I was mistaken. I assumed it was outdoors since it was maintained by the TWRA.
  10. Thanks to LilBucket I noticed this on the TWRA's website. I called and it is $8.50 for singles and $10.50 for pairs. Pistols only please. I might have to go check it out. 11. I don't carry where the law says I can't. Not by choice, but by the fact that I obey the laws (usually, does speeding count?) regardless of how much I dislike them.
  12. Cute kid, my oldest is sick right now.
  13. You didn't move closer the the areas that you might need one, the areas that you might need one moved closer to you. There is NO "Safe Haven." Our homes, offices, schools and even churches are all "targets" for Bad Guys. I don't like thinking this way, but the facts are clear. Criminals and terrorists both foreign and domestic will attack us where we are "comfortable" because they "have the power." Intimidation is a wonderful tool. When some one comes in to your "safe zone" they intimidate you and make you affraid and you have to react to their actions. If you were able to take it in the opposite direction, if you KNEW who the bad guys were and could confront them in their homes, they would be on the defensive and the world would be a better place. How about we start posting in the papers and on the evening news the names of everyone who is CONVICTED of a crime!! Those are public records that probably should be published but never will because of the rights of the accused.
  14. Remember, kids, write your officials and tell them to support this bill. Then if Bredesen VETO's it we can all use that against him in the next election.
  15. And Progun, that begs the question. If these people had harmed the wife and child, would the Victims be able to sue the paper for publishing this information and the reporter? The answer is no-Freedom of the Press and all. Remember kids, just because you CAN do something doesn't mean that you SHOULD do it. We were all given 2 eyes, 2 ears and 1 mouth. We should look more and listen more before we SPEAK more.
  16. Power Corrupts, Absolute Power Corrupts Absolutely!!!! That is the problem behind elected officials.
  17. Damn good article that one. I will try to remember it, Life, liberty and Little Lizzie's of the world.
  18. Yeah, that response time really impressed me. It was Saturday Evening at about 7:30 that this happened. I figured the response time was going to be way enormous. When it wasn't We were all shocked. At that time, I programmed the non-emergency number into my phone. I figured, if they were that fast, I would try them in an actual emergency and see what happens (call both basically.)
  19. Yeah mars, for all intents and purposes it appeared to be a "break in." They had a shed in the back yard that appeared to be "ransacked" and had the door broken open on it. A piece of the door was laying in the yard. The inner back door was open but the outer door was closed. (Had I actually put my hand on that door and tried to open it I would have known it wasn't a break in because that door was still locked) The garage was opened and neither my wife nor myself remembered it being open when we came home about 30 minutes prior to the alarm going off. One of their cars was in the garage but the other one wasn't. It just didn't "look" right. After the home owner came home and we looked at it, he remembered that the back door can be "mostly" closed in order to set the alarm but still have enough that the cat could force it open if it wanted to. Everyone is right though, we should have waited, and like I said, even calling the NON EMERGENCY NUMBER as I didn't think this was going to be a case where the police needed to leave a higher priority call it only took about 10 to 15 minutes TOTAL for the police to arrive.
  20. Steel, Yeah, looking back, I know we should have waited for the cops, but then again, I don't think I could have waited if it were my house. I am not LE but then again, would I not have the right to defend myself in my neighbors house provided I am in there with his permission? I am in no way saying that I wouldn't be facing charges, I am just wondering about the "legality" under these specific circumstances. I know if we were sitting down watching a ball game and some one broke in, I would have the right to do what I need to do, I am more concerned about under this case scenario.
  21. I carry because the police won't be there BEFORE I need them. Basically saying that they can only come after something has happened. I had one of those situations yesterday. The next door neighbors alarms was going off. I knew they weren't at home. I had to make a decision, investigate or stay home and wait for the police. After 15 minutes of the alarm going off and the police not showing up I decided to investigate. I walked across the street, looked in the kitchen, saw nothing, walked around back and found a shed "broken in to" and the back door open. I walked back home and called the non emergency number for the police and reported what I had observed. It took maybe another 10 minutes for the police to show up, in the mean time the home owners came home. I told Mr. Homeowner what had happened and he asked if I would go in the house with him (a little bit older and not very fit person) It was at that time that I realized I had made the right decision to carry a weapon. Should we have waited for the police? Probably, but you know how people are. We walked in and that is when he noticed that the cat was probably the one to set off the alarm. A couple of seconds later the police showed up. I have to admit. I was scared. I didn't know what I would find in that house. But the ordeal reassured me that I have made the right decision about carrying and that if it comes down to it, I could and would use it. To protect ourselves and our families and in some cases our neighbors. That is why I carry a gun. That is why I think most people should.
  22. Actually the local news did an "expose" on it. Apparently, if you wear a Dale Earnhart jacket you are a member of the bloods. The 38 of Gilliland represents some other street gang 8-3 = 5 which is the number of points in the star in their symbol. I have to admit, I have seen a lot more people that looked as if they could be "gangsta's" wearing NASCAR apparel lately.
  23. VooDoo - I like Kenseth. Can't stand Stewart or Hendrick's Racing pirates. Harvick did good in Busch last year and okay in the cup, but I got tired of seeing the Happy Harvick show.
  24. Welcome to the nut house.
  25. Mars, You make a very valid point about the corrupt that just want power. This is why I feel very strongly about term limits. The President can serve a MAXIMUM of 10 years provided he inherits the seat of President as Vice President. That should be the maximum amount of time any person should be able to hold any political office. I know many people will say that the voters can institute term limits by voting them out of office, but like Kudzu, once it gets established it is dang near impossible to get rid of it. I think that is going to be my new signature: Politicians are like kudzu, they get a foothold and then ruin everything.
