  1. Interesting holster, but I don't think it was necessary for all of the language that was used. It would have been a much better article had the swearing been held to a minimum, it read like a 10th grader was writing it.
  2. Nothing really impressive about the story, but I can remember having a 6" mohawk and having issues getting into and driving cars.
  3. While the Statue of Liberty reads "Bring me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to be free." I don't think that the sentiment was that they would come here and live off of the government tit and not assimilate into the culture. Keeping your original heritage is great. I fully respect the right of the individual in their home, but to expect me to adopt your language just to be able to speak to you out in public, to expect the government to print everything in about 100 different languages is rediculous. http://www.englishfirst.org/ Will there be a time when the borders are completely controlled? I hope so, but I doubt it will be in my lifetime because to many political people don't want to see it happen. It ruins the voting base.
  4. Remember, Mars, an old soldier doesn't retire, he fades away. No fanfare or trombones, just gone.
  5. Does the wife know about it?
  6. Rifleman, not that I am pretending to speak for Marswolf, but does it really matter if all of his training is military? Personally, I have seen some of the grandious statements made by people on this forum that claim to have years and years of training and instruction but the words they are saying is strictly opinion and not fact. I have to admit, though I have had no formal training outside of the military, that many of the "training" classes that I have seen mentioned do not appear to be anything more than a group of buddies going out to some fields and pretending to be Rangers or Seal Team 7. The applications that they are "training" for are not realistic as I doubt seriously that most "civilians" will ever be involved in a situation where the vehicle they are standing next to is on fire while they are having to put down supressive fire so their friends can make their ways out of the Denny's. Some of the pictures that I have seen from the Offensive Pistol course, appear to be just that. Where are the photos of the mom pushing the shopping cart while Joe Mugger comes up from behind and assaults her? I don't see those, but I do see a bunch of people handling weapons like I see on Numb3rs on Friday nights. Do I see a reason to cover my vital organs with my weak arm? Yup, but then again, I see a reason to have as much control of the weapon as possible since more likely than not the attack is going to happen between 7 and 10 feet. Is there a whole bunch of Bravado on an anonymous internet forum? Sure, we all have typed something to make ourselves sound better. Again, not trying to speak for anyone else, I am just offering my 2 cents on the topic of training. Should you take training? Of course, take as much as you can afford from people you trust!!! Get their backgrounds. Know the person you are taking a class from. If you only talk to people that have taken training from that one person, you are not getting a true idea as to the caliber of their teaching. Talk to people that have been to different training classes by different instructors at different schools. This is the reason many businesses look for people whose post graduate work is done at a different school than their undergraduate work. If you are constantly learning from one person, you might very well constantly be learning that one persons bad habits. And what does it matter whether or not he is a professional tactical or firearms instructor? Can the student not be the teacher also? Another point that I would like to make, it seems to me that every time training of any sort gets mentioned, one or two people get on and start insisting on taking a class from one particular school. That this school above all is the ultimate in training. The original poster mentioned East TN or West NC. It was then suggested by two members of a certain academy that they Drum up all kinds of business by getting as many people together as they could to bring the instructors of that Academy to them. I don't know, but to me it's like saying, "Where's the best burger in Memphis?" and having some one reply, "Get all of your friends together to pay for my travel expenses and materials, and I will come to Memphis and for doing this, I won't charge you to eat." Get my point? P.S. Huey's has one of the best burgers in Memphis. Oh and Salb, Look for an IDPA league in your area. Many of them can assist you with working on target acquisition and drawing and firing under stress. Don't worry about a fancy rig etc. See if you can watch and maybe shoot a round.
  7. Well, not 100% sure on this exact scenario, but for a speech I gave in college, I was able to get off a total of 58 rounds at 4 different distances including reloading magazines in less than 10 minutes. I know that doesn't sound impressive but the shots were all within the 8 ring of the target and distances ran from 7 feet up to 25 feet. The point was to prove to the class that an armed gunman can take out up to 58 targets with out too much trouble. I only had 2 magazines for my Glock which is why the majority of the time it took was to manually reload 2 mags. Imagine if I had 4 magazines ready to go. That time would have dropped drastically. This is a good thing to try, provided the range will allow it. I know that most people are pretty fast once they are ready, but what about when you aren't. Try it at home with an unloaded pistol. Please make sure all ammo is in a totally seperate room.
  8. Philips 37" LCD. Will not go back to regular TV. Have DirecTV HD service. I am not upgrading the DVR yet because they dropped the Tivo Platform. Had to get the HD NFL package too. I simply cannot watch non HD games now. Thank God NASCAR is in HD also. Wrecks look too cool.
  9. Well, with enough planning, I might be able to make a "day" of it. I just have to get ALL of the honey do's done the day before.
  10. Tungsten, Point me to that artist. I may have some other "work" I would like them to do. If you are said artist, send me a PM. I would like to think that anything that was created with the TGO logo, after costs (that includes residuals to the artist) would go to a fund for software/hardware upgrades and other needs of TGO first. If and only IF we start up local chapters, then the profits of items sold in a particular region, would go to that regions costs (again, after a part goes back to TGO for administrative reasons.) Just my thoughts. Again, Tungsten, let me know about the artist. I do really have something I want drawn up.
  11. When I go to the range, I wear clothes that I am apt to be wearing out in the "real" world.
  12. Looking like April 28th, or 29th. That is the earliest that I will be able to attend. Would be nice to find some land close to here to go shooting at. Rifles would be fun.
  13. Anyone feel like shooting (pun intended) for the last weekend in April? That is about the earliest I can think of. Maybe talk to SSS about "reserving" the small side or something.
  14. Ditto that sentiment DB!!! I have a good paying job and am happily married, and the kids are STILL the best thing I ever did.
  15. Have to check the schedule, but right now it is going to have to be some time in April at the earliest for me. Too many "spring" projects around the house to get the range time in.
  16. Nice, but what is the cost?
  17. Glock clearly puts in their owners manual to NOT use reloads PERIOD. I think that pretty much sums it up. Moral of the story? RTFM Stupid!!!
  18. Welcome to the boards. Have fun with your AK's and that M9 will get you there and back if you need it.
  19. I have one question for the judge with the descenting opinion. If the citizens of D.C. aren't covered by the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, I guess we don't need warrants to enter their homes and look for evidence of illegal activity. How about we enter all of the legislatures homes and start searching, just to see what we might find that we can put them in jail for.
  20. I would probably purchase a T and Long Sleeve T. I only like very specific types of hats so that would probably be out. I am a little against having decals on my vehicle that denote me as a gun owner. I just think that you are asking to have your car broken in to, especially outside of an establishment that sells alcohol for consumption on premisis. We have been discussing the club aspect of TGO, and I think the general concensus right now is that we start with a few simple meet and greet range outings. Nothing too formal. Try to get the people that live in your immediate area to the range at an agreed upon time, or maybe meet up at Shoneys and then go to the range or vice versa. Anyway, great idea and if Admin goes for it with the use of his logo and the name, I am game for a shirt or two.
  21. Thank GOD!!! I am sure that it will be a long time before you can actually go and purchase a gun in D.C. but this is definitely a move in the right direction. And the citizens are not covered because D.C. is not a State? Wow, how arrogant!!!
  22. Not having been to this training, the question I ask, do you offer Women Specific training. What to do when the attacker comes up behind you? Or is the training strictly geared to you sitting in a bank line and a guy comes in to rob the place. Like I said, I haven't been there, but I don't think mixed classes of Men and Women are what most women enjoy. They don't want some over geared Rangeresque person next to them while they are trying to figure out which end of the gun the bullet comes out of. Lets face it, the majority of the victims are Women, but they are women who typically don't carry themselves with attitude. My wife has never been victimized and never felt threatened. She walks with confidence. Does she know how to use a firearm, yup, but she doesn't carry. She simply has an air about her that you don't want to mess with her. And she backs it up. She has chased a petty theif around a parking garage and up and down stairs to get equipment that belonged to her company back. She had no weapon. Was she a little stupid? Probably, but she got the equipment back, and the punk was so affraid of her that he didn't think about doing anything wrong. So, we can all say this and that about the training facility, but face it, women don't typically want to go, because, well, they are women and crawling around in the dirt just typically isn't their bag.
  23. Personally, I choose the 9mm most days because that is what I have had the most practice with. I also know that at distances common to "gun battles" if I get the chance to get the gun out of my holster, you might as well lay down because I will hit center mass many times.
  24. How about the TCLG - Tennessee Civil Liberties Group. Not to be confused with a union as most of those in my opinion are pseudo terrorist groups that stranglehold business owners.
  25. Currently carrying some Browning POS but it gets the job done when necessary which isn't very often. I plan on getting one of these in the near future. The safety tip may seem unpractical, but I figure with two small children, the possibility of having to cut something near their skin is very real and I would rather have that added safety precaution. I also like the carbide tip that comes out under pressure to be able to break class should the need arise. I have carried Spyderco's for a while and I can tell you they are definitely a company to do business with. Once I had a tip break while cutting carpet. I called them and they said send it in. They weren't able to fix it 100% instead they ground down where they could put a point on it and sharpened it up, then they sent it back along with another Delica that was half serrated and have straight blade with the metal clip they were trying out. NO CHARGE, ZILCH, NADA, ZIP, ZERO $. Good company and I will continue to do business with them. The browning was a spur of the moment deal and I have since lost my Delica and Endura.
