  1. LOL....How about hog?
  2. Personally I have not. Thought about making one from a yote, but didn't really want to look like some "harvard yippie". It may fit into my 1790's reenactment persona...just seems like alot of work though!
  3. WELCOME!
  4. Very well worded indeed!
  5. ALL of Tennessee's reg's are confusing!
  6. Why not use your bow? Shooting that pistol from your tree stand could get you in a "heap'a trouble boy"! If knowledge serves me right, rimfire is leagal to hunt yotes with during archery season. Get you a nice .22 mag and carry it! Shoot the yote from your stand. Read my lips..."you cand hunt coyote with bow as well as rimfire". If you see a deer, keep the daggum thing holstered and take it with your bow! Your other option....forget it!
  7. What he said! Remember though, if shotshell is all that legal at any given time, then keep your centerfire pistol holstered. In those cases, carry a nice 22 mag revolver with a 4 inch barrel. Should cover both your needs.
  8. I'm drafting a nice e-mail as well.
  9. Here is your chance to voice your opinions in hope of some reg changes. Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency (TWRA) is soliciting comments for its 2011-12 hunting seasons’ regulations. This is an opportunity for the public to share ideas and concerns about hunting regulations with TWRA staff. Public comments will be considered by TWRA’s Wildlife Division staff and may be presented as proposals for regulation changes. Comments may be submitted by mail to: 2011-12 Hunting Season Comments, TWRA, Wildlife Management Division, P.O. 40747, Nashville, TN 37204 or emailed to twra.comment@tn.gov. Please include “Hunting Season Comments†on the subject line of emailed submissions. The comment period concerning the 2011-12 hunting season regulations will be open until Feb. 24, 2011.
  10. Turkey gun + 3 inch BB + outdoor security lights = one dead yote when they get after my ducks and chickens!
  11. Troll....you been playing with calls again? I'm surprised you haven't been booted yet! Whiskey, get you a .22-250 and get over it! Might as well join the rest of us on here!
  12. Lets all move on. When turkey season opens here in April I hope to be out pig hunting with bow. There is a chance that pig hunting won't be allowed in the area we hunt this year. Pig Bomb is coming to an area near you!
  13. BEARMAN; I think I'll give that a try!
  14. I do bow hunt hogs, and the neck shots I make with my crossbow kills them within a minute or less. I guess just the idea of some knife wielding bubba stabbing a hog 27 times like someone did my 89 year old grandmother, is just a little distasteful TO ME. Just my opinion is all. I just don't see the reasoning behind it.
  15. I think stabing an animal to death with a knife is cruel and inhumane. To each his own I suppose. Everyone has their own ideas of ethics ect., ect.. Those are the reason PETA is coming down on everybody and everything! They and the humane society have more influence in our hunting seasons and regs, than you could imagine. Just like the auto insurance industry. Come on, lets give them wood for their fires!
  16. That's what I do with the land owner where I hunt. We have built a trust with each other. It started when I give him a key to my truck. Told him if he ever needed to move it for anything, "here's the key". Now, I have keys to everything on his property. I even go down and bushhog for him. He lets me run the property (187) acres. All based on trust.
  17. My kind of Hawg Hunt'n! When does the plane leave Whiskey?
  18. LOL I can only say that's where I shop!
  19. Lutan F works real well for those. I used to tan alot of the species you mentioned in rug work and just plain old hide tanning. Lutan will tan a hide like that in mere hours. skin out, rough flesh by removing only the large chunks of meat and flesh. Salt well, rubbing salt (un-iodized) into every crevice. Fold flesh to flesh, roll up and let set in a cool place for a day. Unroll and shake out your excess salt. Mix your pickle according to directions. Let hide soak in that solution a couple of days. Remove and flesh again. This time removing everythiing all the way down to the skin. Be careful not to cut the skin. However, you can stitch up later. Return to the pickle for another day or two. Make sure the PH of your pickle solution does not rise above 2-3. Remove from pickle, drain and soak in a couple of gallons of water with baking soda mixed (instructions will come with your pickle and tan). After soaking rinse well. Prepare your tan and place hide in it. I think the species you mention will tan in about 8-10 hours or so. Follow instructions from there. 1 quart of Ultimate acid (pickle) 5 pounds of Lutan F Tan 1 Quart of softening oil 5 pounds of uniodized salt All of this will tan several hides. It's well worth the investment. I don't use tanning kits because they don't seem cost effective when doing several hides. I believe you would be far better buying in the amounts mentioned. Visit Van Dyke's or http://www.mckenzietaxidermy.com I have no interest in these companies, other than that's where I buy my shop supplies.
  20. Use uniodized salt. It's available at all grocery stores. I buy it in 50 lb bags at the co-op. It's sold as meat curing salt. As far as tanning kits go, alot depends on what you want to tan. I like Lutan F sold by McKenzie and VanDykes. They should come with a softening oil and pickling chemicals as well. You can dry a hide "hard as a rock" or soft and dry. Drying time is variable depending on temperature, moisture ect.. If you can give me an idea what you are tanning, I'll be a little more specific for ya. Degreasing doesn't hurt either. Commercial degreaser for heavy grease hides, dawn dish detergent lightly greased hides. I hope this helps.
  21. Butter knife, long flat tip screw driver, and of course, compressed air.
  22. Very good information...Thank you!
  23. If baiting for "yotes" were allowed, what would you consider a "legal" bait. Using any wild animal or carcus thereof would only lead to the wrongful killing of wildlife and possably domestic animals. What say ye?
  24. One on one with an agitated hog with a bow is good with me!
  25. We can do that!
