  1. Why do I get the feeling like this should have been about drawing number 2....you know, the one before they drew it up 12 more times and it looks nothing like those pictures?!?

I agree. It could look a lot better but then I consider that maybe the aim is to make it look kind-of bland so it doesn't draw the eye.
  2. Had already read about them...have pondered the matter since and made a personal decision regarding this particular design and pistol. Not no but Heck No! Being somewhat of a family based forum feel free to allow your own substitutive epitaph. ;-)

I'm not drawn to it but I think I'd have to handle and shoot it before making it a "heck no"
  3. I hope they were smart enough to counterbore that barrel. If not, it'll never hit anything. Even if it is, it's still not going to be perfectly stabile. Chopping the muzzle like that was stupid.

That's the "curve" part. The bullet curves upwards as it exits the barrel.

(In seriousness, I'm sure it's all accounted for)
  4. Yet another kick in the crotch for left handed people everywhere.

Meh, it's only the plastics so in theory, they can hit a couple of programs on their CAD software and knock out a mold for a left-handed version also.

The magazine looks like it's probably straight to me.
  5. Setup email based sharing of books: Allows sharing of books and news feeds by email. After setting up email addresses for this option, calibre will send news updates and book updates to the entered email addresses. You can configure how calibre sends email by setting preferences at Preferences->Sharing->Sharing books by email. Once you have set up one or more email addresses, this menu entry will be replaced by menu entries to send books to the configured email addresses.

I wasn't aware of that functionality in Calibre. Mostly I've just used it for converting file-types and occasionally stripping the DRM from Amazon e-books. I'll have to look into that.
  6. We bought these cheap power strips that you could plug any US, UK or Euro type into from the local economy.  Not quite the safest things, but they get the job done when you're mixing and matching the equipment you brought from home station with.  Since a lot of our stuff was dual voltage, the kid just had a brain fart and forgot to check.

Or, he just really didn't want to make coffee anymore.  He was one of the ones in our TOC that had that responsibility.

Ouch, I've seen some of those. I just kinda assumed the military would be using correct gear. You know how that saying goes...

I've been looking into the sockets recently as I brought a 240V (3KW) kettle back from the UK on my recent vacation and am looking at getting it wired in safely. You guys are finally starting to get a decent kettles, they're just a bit underpowered.

  7. You can convert epub for the kindle. Calibre is the software I use but not sure if it's available for Windows.

I don't believe the Kindle can download e-books directly from the browser. However, you can set up an email address on the amazon site that you can email documents to and they will show up on your kindle wirelessly. This can actually be a cute way to send notes, poetry, whatever to your SO.

  8. Loved the zeds in tents. Hilarious.

Folks really know how to leverage the walker predictabile behavior to their advantange now

True. Surprised we haven't run across someone hooking them up to a treadmill to generate electricity or maybe pull a cart.

  9. That's always fun to see.  Back in 2007, our BN TOC got in a brand new coffee maker to replace the aged silver bullet.  It was one of those models that has a warmer on top, so you can brew a second pot and still keep another one warm...the kind you see at Waffle House.  Long story short, that new coffee maker lasted all of 15 minutes out of the box before one of the Joe's plugged it straight into the 220 strip, not the converter box.

    Our S-3 NCOIC was pissed.

Why are they not using the correct connectors? There's little excuse for 220V on a standard US 110V socket unless a dumb adaptor is being used.

  10. Looks like the Voyage brings back the physical buttons. Good, they were a lot better than the touchscreen operation, especially since the UI got a little laggy in a recent update. Also lighter, better resolution and contrast. A few ergonomic improvements...

Hmm. Not real physical buttons so it remains to be seen if it's better than tapping the page. Sounds like it might work well though. I liked being able to turn the page with a twitch of my thumb on the Mk1.

Another new addition is a set of pressure-sensitive page-turn buttons on either side of the bezel. You keep your thumb resting on the button and then press lightly to make the page turn forward or back, depending on whether you touch the top or bottom button. You also get a some haptic feedback -- a slight buzz on your finger -- with each page turn. Amazon calls the new feature PagePress and it works well.

It's probably a while until they drop the price (they do it at the same time each year) so probably a case of get it if you want it.

WRT Wifi, you should see if a neighbor has an open hotspot. Though you don't actually need it to operate the Kindle, it's just a nice-to-have. Everything can be done over USB (though you won't get the OS updates, you probably won't notice the difference).

(Edit: I think the initial setup must be done with a network connection to register the Kindle to your Amazon account if you want to use their service)
  11. No. Though it may have been out from the original crash as you suggest (I thought the same thing though so it may have been a continuity thing).

Somewhat of a lame episode but that often happens before a high action one. Here's hoping for next week.

  12. Keurig seems to be being pushed by WM at the moment. However, I already had a Senseo for several years and the pods are significantly cheaper than the k-cups. The Senseo has been rocking like a champ and I have a spare in reserve (Philips had a deal for a while where you just paid the shipping) but when it's time for something new, I'm going to go for this one which can do cups, pods or straight ground coffee and gets better reviews than the Keurig machines.

  13. There wasn't a big scene about the bathroom in the first one. Jeff Daniels destroyed the toilet bowl and couldn't flush it. You might be thinking of the movie Dumb and Dumberer- When Harry met Lloyd. It had a scene where Harry got "s##t" all over the wall and Bob Saget came in and went off. I technically thought that movie was the 2nd one even though Carey and Daniels weren't in it but I guess it was considered a knock off. I liked it too though.

I was thinking there had already been a second one. I guess this is a different branch or something.

  14. Not so much a fact of life as a fact of government printing up money. More money around, the more of it you need to exchange for goods & services.

The rule of thumb that I've used in my lifetime is prices double about every 10 years. That's been accelerating recently though. Honest estimates of inflation are up near 10%.
