  1. Never give up. Your friend must remember that the diffiult can be done at once. The impossible may take a little longer. Although tree rats breed rapidly and are amazingly resilient, they are still vulnerable to lead poisoning.
  2. Bump. Please save me from having to go to Gander Mtn.
  3. You could compare to Freedom Munitions 500 9mm for $126.87 plus 22.95 shipping. That's the lowest cost I can find in ready supply.   http://www.freedommunitions.com/category-s/1818.htm
  4. Will do, Austin. Thanks.
  5. I was issued Colorado Hunter's Safety Card #000168 in 1970. Colorado is an odd one. They've always been tough on gun owners and hunters, yet hunting accounts for a large part of their economy and tourist dollars. That said, taking a 2-day in person course was not a bad idea, although, until later shortened and even more recently offered online, it was so time consuming, the requirement discouraged many new hunters. It was essentially the same as an HCP class with emphasis on long guns and shotguns. Range time was with a supplied 22. Age cut-off for Colo. hunters safety requirement is 1949. Again, sure happy to live in Tennessee.
  6. Nope. I checked Outpost Armory online to see what they had for shipment. 30-30 is out of stock. This afternoon, found 10 boxes of Remy 170 grain Core-Lokt at Selway in Montana. Came out with shipping to 16.35 per box of 20. I guess that's reasonable. Most I saw in stores, pre-2013, was about $15 per box. If TN tax was added, this tax-free is about the same.
  7. Lucky, I can't be traced for these comments. I hate squirrels, particularly in my attic. I practice a morning coffee drill. I sip coffee and watch a slot clearing out my kitchen window. When bogey squirrel enters target area, window goes up, scoped 10/22 comes out. Firing CCI "Quiet" 22LRs, neighbors have never noticed. At less than 75 feet, the CCI Quites are deadly. Now and then I may be off a half inch or hit a thick part of pelt, but I guarantee that squirrel is limping and never returns to share my coffee. If I ever get tired of this, I'll switch to the 22 barrel with the SIG P226. That makes a bit more noise, even with the Quiets, so wifey needs to be out of the house. She doesn't mind the body count or the 22 Quiets, but she's not fond of pistol reports from her kitchen.   Note: When using Quiets, or equivalent low velocity ammo, in semi-auto long gun or pistol, you'll need to manually eject and charge each shot. Aside from that, the Quiets are incredibly effective.
  8. Taking a look at safe, found 3 shotguns that have aged in place and are in need of new recoil pads. Welcome suggestions for area gunsmith or skilled workworker who can fit new pads to stocks. (I do not have the replacement pads.) These are side-by-sides with high quality wood stocks. I'd like to preserve their value.
  9. Thanks. Would need to find 30-30 either in the K-Town area or online. Although I'm sure others will appreciate leads to the ammo at TN retailers. It disappeared about a week into deer season and hasn't been seen since.
  10. No 30-30 at Outpost now. Open to other suggestions.
  11. I've had good luck with Freedom Munitions for 9mm. Prices are typically around $15 for 50 rnds. http://www.freedommunitions.com/category-s/53970.htm P&H costs are reasonable and no TN sales tax. Now, if I could find a consistent source for 30-30 ammo, I'd be a happy camper.
  12. Yep. There are classic iron sites. The scope is fine, but I'm sure more range time will be needed to re-dail and the quick release wing nuts will be replaced tonight with torqued down allen bolts. Wish I had $100 in this one. More like $350, but as you say, it's an outstanding rifle and a very accurate shooter. Glad to have it and plan to use it as often as possible to put meat on the table.
  13. So, I acquired a great looking pre-safety Marlin 336 with Nikon scope. Took it to the Loudon Co FOP range this afternoon. The scope was pretty far off the paper, so it took about 45 rounds to put it on the mark. Started at 50 yds shooting at a target stapled to a picked up "Lose Weight Fast" real estate-type sign (my personal roadside beautification effort) then moving to 75 yds and then 100 yds - climbing the little hill through plenty of muck. Got the scope and rifle dialed in on the spot... then the scope popped off the rail - scope was new - rings with quick release were old and the quick release worked too well. Rats. 30-30 rounds are becoming hard to come by.
  14. DAdams <== Experienced the same outage this AM and the one two days ago. I have a Coleman stove, propane lantern, catalytic propane heater (good for one room), outdoor gas grill, fireplace and a ton of blankets and down sleeping bags. With all this gear ready and waiting, I simply pulled the comforter up to my nose and remained under cover until I could not put off going to work any longer. Took a warm shower by candlelight until the hot water ran cold. Grabbed coffee and a biscuit on the way to work and left my wife to deal with it. (Glad she doesn't know about this site!)
  15. How about 50 pcs for $10? They are used by commercial fisherman. http://www.ebay.com/bhp/fishing-glow-sticks
  16. I've had several smokers, traditional charcoal/wood and electric. By far, the best I've had and now own is the Weber Smokey(sic) Mountain Cooker 22.5 It's the size of a small phone booth and uses a water pallet between the charcoal/wood and cooking grids. Output is competitive quality and IMHO far better than Buddy's or Corky's. This is a BIG smoker and will easily do 4 turkeys or a hind quarter of venison and a half dozen racks of ribs. It's not something you'd likely fire up regularly unless you're in the business of smoking. It typically consumes about 20 pounds of charcoal and 2 18" quarter-split hickory logs in an 8 hour session. They retail for about $400 but I found one from an online appliance broker and landed it by motor freight for $180, inclusive.
  17. Check this absurdity out... not a 2nd amendment issue, it's NYC Code 10-306b. Big brother is watching and will getcha if you don't watch out. How could they know what size magazines you own or whether you installed a block?
  18. Come on over and clean up my guns anytime. I'll even supply the solvent and rags. Very nice job!
  19. OP must type as I do. Adjacent keys are always fair game. le = lr in my mind.
  20. Walked the Knoxville Gun & Knife Show this afternoon and noticed a NIB "show special" ATI PX2 12 ga pump with 18-1/2" barrel offered "below cost" at $198. It's very light weight, looks okay and seems to have a pretty smooth action. Anyone have one of these and an opinion to go with it? It seems like a very low price for a 12 ga anything. If the gun is reliable, would seem to be an obvious defense weapon. I prefer a pump, after owning a Rem 1100 things to go wrong.
  21. OP - Good to meet you and thanks for bringing the 22LR ammo. It will go to good use with grandkids shooting bulleyes over the holidays.
  22. +1 Headed there now
  23. I bought a P250 subcompact 9mm for my wife. She thinks it bucks too much, but then she would say the same of a 32. Personally, I have no problem with the DA pull. It's very smooth, comparatively light and, for a relatively short barrel, it's extremely accurate out to 25 yds. No, it's not a 226 and isn't built anything like it. The 250 firing mechanism looks like something out of a Ruger 10/22, but it seems to work well. About 500 rounds down range and no issues. Carries well with a OTB flight deck holster. I like it and often find myself shooting it instead of the 226 at the range. How well it finds the X amazes me. (And it's a whole lot faster to clean up when I get home. Just pop out the firing mechanism and take the polymer frame to the hot tub for a scrub.)
  24. It may also be a defense issue. More and more industries that help preserve US military strength are going offshore. Imagine if we had to rely on steel bullets? (manufactured from environmentally sustainable recycled... Heck. what's made from steel anymore?)
  25. We East Tennessean's are a fiesty bunch. They can't satisfy our demand for ammunition.
