  1. All the Remington R1's I've seen are priced $579 - $629. Very nice pistol, have yet to shoot one but the fit and finish are on par with much higher end 1911's. As for the Rock Islands, I'd give Phil @ Bellshire Hardware (Nashville off Dickerson Rd.) a call. No one else can beat his prices, he is known as the "Guy to get a Rock" from on m1911.org. 615-860-4212 is the number for Bellshire!
  2. I can tell by your avatar that your biased towards Colts, which is no problem. With that said, My M1991 Colt performs 100% as well as my Rock Island tactical. They shoot the same, they show the same accuracy, and they are both just as reliable. While the Colt has a better finish, for a good shooting 1911 with out investing a lot of coin, you can't be the Rock Island. In fact I shoot my Rock Island more as I'm not worried about a scratch here or there, rain or shine, it runs like a top. My Colt enjoys the darkness of the safe, and only gets shot or carried every now and then. **Note, every 1911 of mine gets a 18.5 wolff recoil spring before its ever shot** I've done this as it is a cheap and easy way to enhance reliability. I don't know how the stock springs work, I've never used em.

    AK Prices?

    Will you match 7.62x39 saiga's for $299

    AK Prices?

You can get WASR's for #379 - 399 NEW from aimsurplus.com and centerfiresystems.com Also centerfire has special on 7.62x39 saiga's for $299, easy to convert and makes a great shooter. Most local shop's can not beat online prices.
  5. Good Point here. I know the primary arms micro dot will not,as the diode emitter is on the bottom, blocking the ability to co-witness. I know the aimpoints, Bushnell, and Konus will.
  6. Ultimak + Micro Dot = co-witness. I run a bushnell TRS-25 on an ultimak and it provides a 1/3 lower co-witness. And yes it stands up to the heat, I've run 2.5 tins (2700 rnds) of 5.45 through it in the past month and a half, no issues. Check it out.
  7. Just to throw some fuel on the fire.... Do not underestimate the 5.45x39 round. I typically beat my fellow shooters in a game we call 30 on 30.....30 clay pigeons on a mound at 100 yards, 30 rounds in the mag, you see where this goes. I have defeated Colt's, Bushmaster's, and LWRC's at this game....All AR shooters(my shootin' buddies), who have very nice rifles, nice optics, and some shooting skill. However, the fact Magpul is branded all over their rifles, means (to them) that they are shooting space age laser guns that can't possibly lose to an AK... With my 5.45x39 Bulgy, I spank them all Plus, I don't shoot my guns off a bench, If I can smash clay pigeons at 100 yards standing, I see no complaints in the accuracy department.

    Looking for AK-74

I've shot both my Lancaster and ISD along side an SGL-31 with a PO3,5 optic (Commie ACOG) and the accuracy is the same. 3-5 MOA (based on 10 round groups, 3 round groups are a joke) The most accurate groups I've seen are with the 70 grain wolf, however I prefer the 7N6 as its cheaper and a hotter round. According to a friend who was at SHOT, the century rep said they should have more 5.45 in soon, in the millions of rounds, as in many shipping containers, seems like its held up in customs. Makes sense, everyone is pushing new 74 clones to the market, 3 Eastern European armies are going to NATO.... I imagine cheap 5.45 for some time to come. I get a tin or two a month to stock up. Tennessee Guns might still have their ISD's onsale. If your a member of theakforum.net, check out the TGI section for the promotional code, knocks about $100 off. ---- As to the CAI Tantals, I had two, both keyholed. My bias towards them is based on personal experience. However, the M70 I have of theirs is quite nice.
  9. CCR does great work. When I was living in Knoxville (UT) my roommate had a P226 done by them, great work! I was just hoping someone local would do refinishing, I hate having to ship handguns... thanks for the replies
  10. I love the NP3 finish, however, I'm looking for a black finish at the moment. Plus it would be easier for me to send it to Robar, opposed to driving out to the outpost for them to ship it. Really want somewhere local to get a slide and barrel finished. Thanks!
  11. Title says it all. Are there any local shops that offer any type of durable and corrosion resistant finishes? I know predator and coal creek are in Knoxville, but I was wondering if there was a similar shop in the Nashville area? Thanks

    Looking for AK-74

I have sold all my carbines and focused on the AK74 family. The 5.45x39 round is the cheapest on the market, locally $170 per 1080 rounds, and $150 shipped from aimsurplus.com. Its surplus, corrosive, but its a hot round! Don't be scared by corrosive ammo, a simple bath of hot water down the barrel and gas tube, then clean as normal. If you want non corrosive 5.45x39 wolf costs the same per 1k as 7.62x39. It is very accurate for a combat rifle 3-5 moa at 100 yards. It wont shoot cloverleafs, but it will surprise you. Red dots and side mounted POSP scopes are also fun. I have a Bulgarian ISD imported AK74 and I love it. I also have a Lancaster RR74 and another lancaster 74 on the way that I was going to keep for back up, might sell it. There is a huge following of the 74 darkside on ar15.com, I'd check it out over there, as all the info in the world on variants and models can be found. For 74 info, try the AK General Discussion form, as well as the Bulgarian thread (most 74's are Bulgarian kit builds). http://www.ar15.com/forums/forum.html?b=4&f=64&page=1 The best: Arsenal SGL-31, runs around $800 K-VAR Corporation :: Rifles & Shotguns :: SGL31 Series – 5.45x39 Caliber Russian Stamped Receiver AK-74 Variant Rifles :: SGL31-61 Its a legit Russian built 74 clone, same factory. The Good: Bulgarian guns built by TGI / In-Range / Lancaster. The best place to find these is from Atlantic Firearms. I can not recommend a better vendor. Blaine is a top notch fellow, and will treat you right. AK 74 RR Rifle $479.00 0121 - Lancaster Rough Rider, got one, love it. AK 74 Rifle For Sale Atlantic Firearms.com - In Range built AK74, very nice rifle, a co-worker of mine has one, and it runs like a top. The Bad: ANY AK74 / Polish Tantal made by Century Arms. They used the wrong barrels to build a good bit of their Polish Tantals. They used .556 barrels for the builds thinking it would work. It means massive keyholing. 5.56 = .224 and 5.45 = .221, so the compatibility was not there. Just stay away from Century 5.45 guns Here is my ISD:

    AR Hype

i love my 5.45x39 platform (ak74)] its on par with an AR accuracy wise
  14. Looks like I'll forgo the fiber optics as they seem to break. Going to order the Ameriglo tritium front sight from opticsplanet for 30 bucks, and a 3/16 driver to install it, 40 bucks out the door. What color loctite should I use, red or blue?
  15. I would like to get just a TFO front sight, yet have not been able to find that as an option.
  16. On Dawson's site, they have an option for a front sight that is made to work with the factory rear. I've also found an Ameriglo tritium option that is made to work with the factory rear as well. Thanks for the tip on the Ameriglo Luminova's, I'll check them out. great input!
  17. Cheatham is where I frequent, at leas 3-5 times a month. They have a 20-25 yd range that you can use for handgun shooting. I have come up with a nifty way to shoot my pistols at any range I see fit.... make a target stand. I typically take the AK's or the Mosin out there along side my sidearms. So I have a couple of neighborhood sale signs I was given, which I tack up targets to. These can be placed at any distance you choose. It is an easy solution to avoid limited distance target placement. Thus I can shoot both pistol and rifle from the same lane. I've even seen some PVC style target stands which take down for transportation in use there. Cheatham is great during the week, when I can get away from the office early (is 25 min from my place to the range), as no one is ever there. I think every 3rd Thursday of the month the local sheriff dept has a shoot there for its officers. I've ended up there while they were there, and let me shoot along with them, no biggie, nice guys. Only downside is that Cheatham does not allow guns with the fun switch, so it limits when I can invite my "well to do" buddy with his FA guns. .... 30 rnd mag dumps are over rated anyways....(sarcasm here). Uselton's is a joke, and I stay away from his place, I mean he is really proud of his inventory, I assume thats why its priced so high. Actually, I tend to stay away from both gun shops in that area. Only local shops that get my money are Guns n Leather or Eastside Gun Shop (the rabbi can find deals). my $.02
  18. I have factory NS on my G19, and while I like them, I don't see the need for a complete set for my soon to be mine G17. So, I plan on getting a new front sight for the G17, and keeping the factory rear sight (for some reason I like the rear style). Since this will be an IDPA/HD gun, I'm torn between getting a NS front sight or checking out some fiber optic styles. I have a light for the gun(HD use), so I am leaning towards fiber optic for IDPA. Since my internet-search-fu is decent, I've read that the Dawson offering is the way to go. Does anyone run ANY fiber optic front sights on ANY platform, if so: - What make? - Do you like them? - What color do you use, red/green/yellow? Thanks in advance.
  19. Ammo pricing is coming down, not as fast as the rifles.....but give it time. If the SGL-31's were 499, I'd be all over them. I have no real need for a 7.62x39 as I have a SAR-1....while its not as nice, it does the job and I don't think the SGL-20 is any more accurate (done some side by side shooting). However, the SGL-31 I shot a couple of weeks ago would threaten the AR side of the range in terms of accuracy. At 100 yds the SGL31 was shooing very nice and tight groups with a combloc optic. Some were an easy 1.5 MOA, then the gun warmed up and stayed around 2-2.5 MOA. I think the 5.45x39 round has a lot to offer in terms of accuracy, enough to make me consider a total switch to the ak74 platform. Only drawbacks on doing so are: - 7.62x39 ammo is dropping in price, hopefully sub $200 per 1k, takes away the advantage of corrosive combloc 5.45 pricing - I have enough 7.62 gear already - Steel commie mags are hard to beat....pun intended. - NO US producer of 5.45x39 if the worse was to happen. But who knows.... if the SGL-31 drops in price, I'm in.
  20. Arsenal SGL-21's (AK-103) are on sale for $499.99 Thats right, the "must have" AK's are on sale for a whopping $500 bucks less than before. Means two things: 1.) The market has crashed, expect super pricing across the board, I can see sub 300 dollar WASR's soon. 2.) I feel bad for those who paid $900+ for one of these. Get your's here: http://www.k-var.com/shop/product.php?productid=17015&cat=353&page=1 If your in the market for a nice AK, some say the best outside of a custom build, the time is here.
  21. K-VAR has $499.99 SGL-21's !!!!! There is no reason to buy WASR anymore. (Nothing against them) But being able to get an Arsenal for 500 bucks, is a STEAL (they used to be 969.99). On the bright side, this should drive WASR's down to the sub $300 range. http://www.k-var.com/shop/product.php?productid=17015&cat=353&page=1 I'm ordering one this Friday.
  22. I've heard the same joke with Hitler and the Swiss PM. Needless to say, its still funny.
  23. GSG5's are a blast to shoot. I had one for a while but sold it and picked up another AK. If you have the extra $500 for a .22, then by all means go get one, they are a riot.
  24. They might not be pretty, but I've had a WASR that ATE EVERYTHING it was fed. Mine had NO cant on the sight blocks nor gas tube. I think thats all that matters for a 300-400 dollar AK is it not? Accuracy was on par with the SGL-20, SAR-1, and SSR-85. Most people neglect to zero in the rifle, and thus say WASR's are garbage. Don't really know the forum rules on suggesting other sites, but ARFCOM has the best AK section I've come across. The guys there have been a great help for me, and they have different sections within the AK section for each nationality. Also the AK side of the forum tends to be more civilized and welcoming than the black rifle side. There isn't the "If your AR is not equipped with a minimum of $2k worth of tacticool accessories, don't post here nonsense" that is seen on the AR side. We welcome all those who like the Kalash. my .02 My current "go-to" 1999 SAR-1, De banned, Romanian VFG, BP-02, Aimpoint clone.
