  1. Why must we be relegated to a room in the back? Are we embarrassed to be HCP holders and carriers of firearms?
  2. Hmm, I open carry regularly (every 2 weeks) into various Bank of America branches around Nashville. No one ever seemed skittish.
  3. Since a brand new G21 (Gen 3) with 2 magazines, case, and bore brush will cost about $550-600 (including all taxes and fees), I'd say in the range of $350-$450 depending on condition and modifications.
  4. I've sometimes thought that limiting "rights" to those with a brain might be a good idea. But, for example, if we limited free speach to only those that have "the brains and presence to do so safely" we'd have no reporters or journalists.
  5. Downtown Nashville for me, too. Of course I'll be openly carrying, as I always do.
  6. How about I make this perfectly clear for you. I'm walking down Galatin Rd in East Nashville. Some "good citizen" calls in a MWAG and you respond and see me. You investigate and demand my HCP, I provide it. Everything checks out. That should be the end of the contact. But, apprently you will start asking me where I'm going, what I'm doing and all sorts of other questions that the law doesn't require me to answer. I may say nothing or I may tell you that it is none of your business. I am not required to answer any querstion you, as a LEO, pose to me. If I am carrying, I must provide my HCP on demand, if I'm driving, I must provide DL, proof of insurance, and registration. If I'm just walking around (unarmed) I just have to identify myself, verbally. Beyond that, I (or anyone else) has the right to remain silent (even if not arrested). Using the typical tactics, of bad or lazy LEOs, of browbeating someone, threatening them with arrest on trumped up charges, or even cuffing them to "force them to volunteer" more information IS a violation of their rights. LEOs walk a very fine line, but the instant anyone of them crosses the line (even by a fraction of a nanometer) they need to be legally slapped silly. There is no excuse for any LEO to violate the rights of anyone.
  7. On those occasions that I have been stopped for any trafic violation, I hand the officer my DL, Insurance card, and registration. Then I keep my mouth shut. I'm not advocating getting into a verbal dispute with anyone. I'll accept a breief chewing out if I was speeding or violating some other trafic law. A more appropriate scenario would be if you are driving a dark colored car and the LEO pulled you over to lecture you about how that car is bad for the enviroment because it takes more energy for the AC to cool the interior on a hot day. And how you are contributing to the melting of the global icecaps, when the LEO is driving a dark colored car as well.
  8. When did exercising a right or acting in an entirely lawful manner make anyone an assh*le? Since I OC exclusively, I will provide my HCP upon demand, as the law requires, but the law doesn't require me to listen to a lecture (something that is a common occurance in OC/MWAG stops). Nor does the law require me to answer any questions. If the Hendersonville Police would have just checkout the info on the HCP and said thanks, there never would have been an issue. Police have no need or duty to tell somone to stop preforming a legal activity.
  9. I'm sorry, but the back of my SS card it says "Not to be used for Identification". Oh, I always open carry, too. Never had any problem with MNPD.
  10. I would check as amany entrances as you can. If the posting isn't at all the entrances, the penalty can not be applied, as they are not posted according to the law. You could still be charged, but you should win in court. I'm not advising you do do anything, the choice to carry in a (improperly)posted area is yours, as are any consequences.
  11. It's not just rookies, but any LEO that doesn't know the law. It is very nice that this seems to be rare in Tennessee, but other states it seems to be a real problem.
  12. This almost makes me wish I didn't OC a .45... I could always use more ammo.
  13. I guess you getting one out of three right isn't too bad.
  14. I'm curious as to where you got this information? There are 44 states that have legal open carry in one form or another. Only six states make open carry totally illegal; Arkansas, Florida, New York, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Texas. 11 states allow unlicensed open carry. 14 states allow licensed open carry. 17 states allow open carry but have some laws that may prohibit it in certain places (like PA's requirement for a license to OC in Philly) or lack state preemption. 2 states allow open carry only in rural or unincorporated areas.
  15. I'm curious, what is your definition of "pushing the limit too far"?
  16. Lets assume, for a moment, that one or both of these bills passes and is sent to the governor for signing. Will the governor sign, leave unsigned for eventual passage into law, or veto?
  17. Respectfully, there are advantages (and disavantages) to open carry and concealed carry. It is up to the individual as to how they weigh those advantages and disavantages. Personally, I have chosen to place more emphasis on deterance than surprise; to place less emphasis on "scaring the sheeple" than comfort and ease of access. Again, it is an individual decision.
  18. I think all that stuff stinks. Well, except for maybe the armed guard amendment. I'm an armed guard by profession and a influx of demand would increase our wages. (Not that I think that anyplace would hire armed guards rather than post a legal no guns sign.)
  19. I OC everyday. Never had a problem. Those that do happen to notice just ask how they can get a permit, too.
  20. Well, you could always open carry in KY. No permit needed from anywhere.
  21. What are your requirements for a carry peice? Do you want to carry the weapon on the first day? If so, go with the G30. Do you want to fine tune the firearm to suit you and have one of the most accurate firearms possible (possibly taking months)? Go with the 1911. Both (as I've used both exstensively) are fine firearms. The 1911 is finiky and needs to be "fine tuned", in my experience, to preform at its peak. The G30 is an excellent firearm "out of the box" with no need (except personal preference) to tinker with anything. The G30 (10+1) has a higher capacity than the 1911 (7+1). The G30 will also accept magazines for the G21 (13 rnds). The G30 is less expensive and lighter than a 1911, but many people don't like how the double stack .45s (or 10mms) feel in their hands. Personally, the 1911 feels too thin to me (I still love them). Try them both out and get what you like best. No amount of comparing will convince you to carry a gun you don't like.
  22. The only downside to carying any Glock firearm is for the total and utter idiot who can't keep his(her?) finger off the trigger when drawing or holstering the sidearm. Those who fall into this catagory are the ones who have Glocks that "just go off". Enjoy your G19. I've been a very happy Glock owner since I got my G30. I'm sure you will be one as well.
  23. Enter key is your friend. I've been in that Walmart, to buy ammo, openly carrying. I Open carry all over Nashville. I even open carry while walking downtown infront of the capitol building in full view of the capitol police and never been questioned, detained, arrested, abducted by aliens, or anally probed (does that cover everything that "happens" when you open carry?).
  24. I open carry all day every day in Nashville. I've not had any "unneeded" attention. Never had a MNPD officer pull his service weapon on me. Never been the subject of a "man with a gun call". There are others that OC all day every day in Memphis. Nothing bad happens to them either. OC is just as nerve racking as CC was the first time. Try OC and I think you'll like how it feels to be fully exercising a right.
  25. Just OC that huge piece of iron. It is very liberating not caring what other people think. You may lose the assumed "tactical advantage" of surprise, but I believe you gain the "strategic advantage" of deterrence.
