  1. There also is not law that requires me to show my HCP to anyone other than a LEO.
  2. They have that right, using either a sign posted and worded according to the law, or a security officer that asks a person to leave.
  3. I'm sorry that you think that reading a sign that could have the weight of law behind it in a literal manner is wrong.
  4. TCA 39-17-1531(n)(1) Except as provided in subdivision (n)(2), a permit issued pursuant to this section shall be good for four (4) years and shall entitle the permit holder to carry any handgun or handguns that the permit holder legally owns or possesses. The permit holder shall have the permit in the holder's immediate possession at all times when carrying a handgun and shall display the permit on demand of a law enforcement officer.
  5. Why would I expect your statement to be disrespectful? Yes, I knew exactly what I was doing. I do my absolute best to know exactly what I'm doing everytime I carry a firearm, don't you? My actions demanded nothing more than either the guard to ask me to leave (I would have immediately complied) or leave me in peace. Why would you think they demanded more?
  6. 1. Even when the sign clearly states don't conceal? I open carry as a normal mode of carry. I have nothing to hide. If you prefer to conceal, that is your choice. For this place the only options were to OC or disarm, I won't do the latter. 2. No. I only show my HCP to law enforcement as the law demands. Anyone else can pound sand. If I'm asked to leave, I do. If you wish to show your permit to everyone who asks, that is your choice.
  7. Yes, I did take note. I was illegally detaine by a police officer. I had my property stolen by this same corrupt police officer. The police officer left stolen property in a waiting room full of people when he left the building to talk to other corrupt police officers. When a complaint about corrupt police officers was filed, a corrupt depatment exonerates them. All this for following the explicit instructions of a security guard who was impersonating a police officer when entering a building carrying a firearm as they expressly stated it should be carried. I'll be sure to let you know when a corrupt TN court throws out my lawsuit.
  8. Talk about lack of reading comprehension. I never stated that things were better anywhere. I just stated that TN's gun owners should get a bit of a backbone and stop cowering when some police-impersonator demands their papers. Then imagine my dismay when an apparent former police officer advocates aggravated assault on a law abiding citizen for nothing more than defending their rights (with others supporting this position). Is it the position of the majority of members of this board that rights are not to be defended? Or are they only to be defended when one recieves the approval from members of this board beforehand?
  9. Thanks for reminding me that Tennessee's gun owners are for the most part cowardly. Maybe its time you learned a thing or two from Virginia's, Pennsylvania's, or even California's gun owners.
  10. Still waiting on that unabridged "mikegideon's Only Acceptable ways to Protect Your Rights".
  11. Ahh, I see what you did there. It appears that anyone who protects their rights in a way you feel is unacceptable should be compared to Voldemort. Please send me the unabridged list of when I may protect my rights in an acceptable way to you and when I cannot protect my rights in any way.
  12. I'm sorry you think that. My rights (and yours) extend everywhere. I don't have a right to be on another's property without invitation or after asked to leave. Should any property owner not wish me to exersize a right on their property, all that needs to be done is to ask me to leave. This did not happen, infact I recieved an explicit invitation to stay (as opposed to the implicit one extended to the general public). You are correct, I was being literal. If you are not literal with the law, you tend to get in actual legal trouble. Allow me to elaqborate on the incident a bit more (I summerized before). I entered the clinic, open carrying as prescribed by the "No Concealed Deadly Weapons" sign. The guard as I was siting quietly in the waiting room asked if I had a carry permit. I stated I did. The guard then states, "You must show it to me!". I replied with, "Are you a police officer?". He stated, "Yes, I am." I then asked to see his department ID (as he was wearing a contract security uniform). He proceded to his vehicle and retrieved a document that he showed to me. It was an Armed Guard license issued by the state of TN. That is when I refused to show him any HCP. Once I stated that I refused to comply, I asked him if he wished me to leave the property. He stated, "No, you are free to wait in the lobby. You don't have to leave." Ten or so minutes later, the police arrive. Who never got a word out of me beyond I am exersizing my right to remain silent. I would think their asses were chapped (as you put it) when they found they could charge me with nothing and had to return my unattended firearm. I reloaded and left when my business was concluded at the clinic.
  13. I'm sorry that I'm not the psychic you appear to be. Their sign only stated they did not wish concealed weapon inside their building. The security guard stated I could stay, and then called police. This is somethng you expect when you are invited to stay someplace? You then expect the police to detain you illegally when there is a report of a non-crime? I find it truely pathetic that you would roll over and abdicate your rights or suggest that others do the same.
  14. The this is, there should never have been a confrontation. Once the guard stated I could stay, there was absolutely no need to call for police. Since the police (3 squad cars for a non-crime) were called, they should have told the guard that there was no crime. Now if you are implying that I should have voluntarilly given up my rights, I want to know when do you think it appropriate to protect your rights? Remember, once you give them up, you don't get them back.
  15. Yep, I entered Matthew Walker Clinic to pick someone up. The entrance was posted as "No Concealed Deadly Weapons", so I open carried. The security guard confronted me and demanded my HCP, I told him no. I then asked if he wanted me to leave, he said no. Then he called the cops who proceded to violate my civil rights and leave my firearm unattended in a half full waiting room (near a person supposedly dangerous enough to be disarmed in the first place). I filed a complaint and MNPD blew the whole thing off... as usual.
  16. I've seen this statement several times in this thread, and this is completly WRONG. TN law states that an officer may demand your permit, but they cannot make any legally binding demand upon you unless you are being detained or arrested. If you are not detained or arrested, the contact is consensual and you are free to end the contact at any time (Terry v Ohio).
  17. What about a more useful DL database of DUI offenders?
  18. I recently resigned my membership. The NRA would rather thow gun owners under the bus than fight against laws that limit the rights of their members. Take Maine for example. After the NP carry law went into effect, some Democrat lawmakers were "very concerned" about Acadia National Park. They introduced a bill to ban all carry. Instead of fighting the bill, the NRA introduced an amendment that would only ban open carry (an actual right in Maine) and require concealed carry (a licensed privledge). Is this the action of an organization that is supposed to defend our rights?
  19. I do the Wally Walk at least monthly. I get the best price on my World of Warcraft game cards fro myself and girlfriend. Oh, I also get some ammo if available. They have never had a problem selling to me due to my openly carrying a firearm. I've had one occasion that they would not sell to me due to it being after 11pm.
  20. My General discharge under honorable conditions came about because I didn't kiss the rear end of a racist First Sergent. I guess I didn't do as I was told.
  21. Do they not still give Uncharacterized discharges to those who were on active duty less than 6 months? Or is that discharg only for those who are going National Guard/Reserves?
  22. A person could be charged with both, though. Doubtful if any of our judges would impose consecutive sentances rather than concurrent.
  23. TMMT & Dropkick Murphy bring up some interesting points about training. While I am not a police officer (I'm an armed security guard), I took it upon myself to learn as much as I could about the laws that I could be enforcing on behalf of my client and how to make a proper arrest should the need arise (like it did today). Is there anything that those of us with special interests (like being gun nuts ) can do to help police officers gain the correct knowledge on laws that keeps everyone out of court? I'd prefer that the good police officers not be punished for ignorance of the law, and I'd prefer that law abiding citizens not be arrested for legal activity. Again, I wish to state, that to my knowledge, there isn't a problem of this nature in Nashville. I have heard of an occasional "color of law" command of cover up in some of the surrounding counties, but I have not heard of any arrests.
  24. There is nothing in Tennessee law that I can find that requires anyone to speak to the police, though IIRC there is something about lying. I probably should have posed my question a bit differently. I'm speaking of a consensual stop (where the officer indicates you are not being detained or arrested). I've never had anything like this happen to me, and I honestly don't expect anything like this to happen. Officers in the Nashville area, in my personal experience, are very professional and appear to know the difference between enforcing the laws and violating rights (as reported in various places around the country).
  25. I'm curious about something that possibly only a LEO could answer for certain. If a LEO approaches an OCer in TN and asks to talk to them and the OCer says "No thanks" and walks away... what happens?
