1. One thing this does and the main reason i'm all for having a state gun is that it makes a "statement" to the people of Tennessee and the country that Tennessee and Tennessean's are pro-2nd Amendment. Read some of the comments posted in the Nashville Scene article Oh Shoot posted, control freak liberals hate it. Passing this sends a message to them pretty much saying Tennessee is a pro-gun state, don't like it then move to California. I know there's a lot more legislation we would like to see passed but i'll keep saying it, Tennessee is far far better than many states when it comes to the 2nd. Amendment, just write your Reps to improve the laws. I bet many people complaining have never even emailed their Reps once. Personally, I think it's a proud moment to officially have a state gun and another reason I think the Barrett was a good choice is because it's one of the most controversial guns which makes the statement even stronger.

I think i'll email Ronnie Barrett and congratulate him and give him an idea for another business opportunity, M82 Tennessee State Rifle T-shirts and hats. And he owes me one of each for the idea.  :)

2. First key point...the Barrett isn't a sniper rifle in the traditional sense.  It was built and is fielded as an anti-material rifle.  Yes, it's been used to take out personnel, but that's a secondary purpose.  The main purpose of the Barrett, is the ability to punch through light armor and other protection.  You talk about the ranges between the Barrett and the other guns, but when one guns target is a person, and the others is a vehicle (or something else much bigger than a person), then you need to talk about target size/range comparison.  I'm sure there is a math formula to make it even, but I'm not in a math mood at the moment. :P

Second...the Barrett isn't alone in .50BMG precision shooting, and it's far from the undisputed winner.  The McMillan Tac-50 is every bit as good, more portable, and better from a precision shooting standpoint.  Also, see a recent entry at the end of the last point below for another model.  As to the innovation of it, yeah, Barrett got there first by creating a rifle that could fire the .50BMG round.  But being first and getting some good contracts by virtue of that doesn't make a legend, IMO.

Third...I sort of hit this, but feel it bears going over again.  No sniper team is useful unless they can operate dismounted for extended movements (five kilometers would be a minimum in my book).  If anyone thinks that lugging 29lbs worth of Barrett rifle on top of a rucksack that is already filled with up to 100lbs of the lightest gear ever invented is practical, then I guess I can't convince you, so I'll just leave you with the words of Chief Petty Officer Chris Kyle (RIP), who I would submit was, before his death, somewhat of an expert about these things.  This is what he had to say about our apparent state firearm:

The fifty is huge, extremely heavy, and I just don’t like it. I never used one in Iraq. There’s a certain amount of hype and even romance for these weapons, which shoot a 12.7 x 99mm round. There are a few different specific rifles and variations in service with the U.S. military and other armies around the world. You’ve probably heard of the M-82 or the M-107, developed by Barrett Firearms Manufacturing. They have enormous ranges and in the right application are certainly good weapons. I just didn’t like them all that much. (The one .50 I do like is the Accuracy International model, which has a more compact, collapsible stock and a little more accuracy; it wasn’t available to us at the time.)

Ronnie Barrett had a vision, though.  I'll give him that.  Others have just taken his first step and ran with it, however.  So, as cool or fun as the M82/M107 is...it's kind of a 'meh' thing for me when all of the other factors are weighed against it.

The Barrett .50 Cal. State Rifle Of Tennessee.

We win, you loose.  NAA  NAADEE NAAA NAAA.   :biglol:  :bowrofl:   :no1:  :usa:      :woohoo:  :taunt:  :tough:

3. Just saw it as well. I am so very sorry to have read it. I hope that the DA can add more charges. Thoughts and condolences to his friends and family, so very sorry for their loss.

The DA has got to add another charge, the POS caused him to have that fatal stroke.

4. The behavior of the attacker disgusts me, especially with the victim being elderly.

Many on the forum have talked about keeping doors locked, while wise, no one has acknowledged that the victim was 78 years old.  If I live that long and an still drive, I don't have great expectations that I'll remember things like locking the doors.

In the same way that a hate crime adds to the charges, I think there are special circumstances for elderly victims as well.

And kids.

Also windows can be broken easily with a weapon, glass flying in your face would be a big distraction. I am a person who looks at my mirrors often, in parking lots, atm's etc., Of course that's exercising situational awareness for crime but someone coming from behind road raging I will see and prepare before they get to my door, In a vehicle, you're at a disadvantage from anyone who is behind you, it's not easy doing a 180 in a car seat, if someone wants to do me harm I would rather them be right at my door.

I applaud his effort although I don't think I would make it mandatory but strongly encourage it. Obviously the boss isn't a gun guy. Poor choice of weapons in my opinion. Adequate but poor. I would opt to carry my own which I would have been already unbeknownst to anyone.

Yea I would say he isn't around anyone who knows about guns, at least handguns, it's not what I would choose. I would let them choose for themselves after having them fire several at a good range with a good instructor and have them take advanced classes, have a range day a month for practice, have employee competitions. Of course first I would have to be a rich businessman.

6. I guess they can always go with black powder, not sure about GA but Federally they don't consider BP firearms.  Either way a win-win, lower crime and felons must move out.

I remember when Kennesaw passed that law, it was really a protest law because Chicago passed a total handgun ban that same year I believe. BTW Chicago, how did that work out for you?

Law In Kennesaw

KENNESAW, Ga - Several Kennesaw officials attribute a drop in crime in the city over the past two decades to a law that requires residents to have a gun in the house.
In 1982, the Kennesaw City Council unanimously passed a law requiring heads of households to own at least one firearm with ammunition.

Just thinking, if they did enforce that law it would really suck for a felon to live there, talking about damned if you do, damned if you don't.

8. While not the best gun for many, it may not be a bad choice in an office environment.  Close quarters with .410 is nothing any bad guy would want to encounter.  As for the mandatory, it may be like that town/city in GA that makes it mandatory for all households to have a gun, no penalties for non-compliance.

9. I heard on the news a while ago that Bobby was being moved to a Hospice facility which more or less means the doctors have given up on him. I can say this for sure Bobby is and always will be 1000 times more of a man than that POS that attacked him is or ever will be.

Bobby and his family will be in my PRAYERS

The news said they are taking him off the breathing machine today so they have decided he's already gone I guess. They also said POS might be facing some kind of murder charge later.

10. Beating the elderly, women or children to death are cases that can probably only be remedied with capital punishment.

Because of the circumstance of him having a stroke, sadly a DA can't prove premeditated murder. My hope is that he will at least serve the maximum for manslaughter. The POS is 53 so 30+ years in a prison he's likely he wouldn't leave unless it's in a box. Also sadly he would probably make a plea deal and only get about 5 and probation.

Also it should have been obvious to the POS that Bobby was an old man, it's takes a real piece of human garbage and coward to attack someone who you know can't physically defend themselves.

11. I also knew the victim in this as I use to live in Kingston Springs for many years and son still does. I wish him the best and hope he is able to come back from the stroke but his age is going to be against him I'm afraid. I keep my Jeep doors locked while I am in it driving. I also have a Bersa in a holster beside my seat. It goes there when I get in the jeep and goes in my wear holster when I get out. God Have mercy on any bad guy that tries to open my door because I will have none for them...................

I just came back from the Smoke Shop and talked to a couple of his renters, they said he is in a coma and his breathing machine is kicking on more and more. They said he is getting worse by the day. They said from the witnesses all he did was go too slow for that POS, that POS swerved in front of him and locked his brakes, got out and opened his door and took a swing at him. They said the witnesses said Bobby tried to drive around him clipping the POS's back bumper, stopped and fell out of his car unconscious.

If Bobby dies from this which seems what will happen, I wished he would have been able to put a couple of .38's in POS's chest before he passed out.

TN. Code 39-11-611

(c)  Any person using force intended or likely to cause death or serious bodily injury within a residence, business, dwelling or vehicle is presumed to have held a reasonable belief of imminent death or serious bodily injury to self, family, a member of the household or a person visiting as an invited guest, when that force is used against another person, who unlawfully and forcibly enters or has unlawfully and forcibly entered the residence, business, dwelling or vehicle, and the person using defensive force knew or had reason to believe that an unlawful and forcible entry occurred.

I know Tennessee needs some improvements but I am very thankful I don't live in many other states. It's a shame the man/victim in the story was old and in fragile health, if he didn't have the stroke he might have been able to save himself and rid society of a scumbag.

13. Man, that sucks. Hopefully he pulls through. Dude looks like a turd by the way. I keep my doors locked on my truck but in the off chance it is unlocked and you decide to open it you are getting 1-18 rounds on 9mm to try and convince you to leave me alone.

Tactically it's a good idea to keep your doors locked, just keep that in mind in case you need a quick exit of the vehicle but, weather or not you keep your doors locked, it's still 100% the thug car jacker or road rager's fault if they get shot and killed. I wont lecture, dude should have had his door locked but I will lecture, punk shouldn't have forced his door open. It's 100% the criminals fault.

My friend called me tonight, we knew the victim, he is a 78 year old long time Kingston Springs man who owns a lot of property just off I-40. Bersaguy might know who he is. Anyway my friend told me that the victim had a massive stroke and from what he heard probably wont pull through this. I don't know the details of what happened but too bad the scumbag who opened the door to attack an old man didn't get shot. We also knew the victim often carried a S&W snubbie on him, guess he was too fragile healthwise to do anything. If/when the victim dies, I hope they charge this scumbag with manslaughter. Don't know if that's the proper charge but i'm sure he will be charged with an extra charge, Oh Shoot probably knows what charge they can charge him with, he obviously caused the man to stroke out from the fear and stress of the situation. We also know his son who doesn't seem like the type to go on a vendetta if Scarboro isn't charged with manslaughter.

Thinking about this I know that in Tennessee's self defense code there is a defense for using deadly force, aggravated carjacking, and forcing open someones vehicle door to carjack or assault should apply. Someone forces my door open i'm just going to assume they are armed with a weapon and intend to kill me, in other words, my plan is shooting several times in the chest.

15. I think the Fox News story is updated with the shooters name.  I admit I read quickly through the story looking for a Muslim name as the shooter, but it wasn't his name was Jason Dalton.  So for a moment I was admittedly profiling the shooter.  Shame on me.

Can't help but to think politically these days, it's tragic and sad and right now i'm sure for the families that the motives don't matter. As soon as I heard about it I thought about how fast Obama will jump on this for an opportunity to spew his anti-gun politics. I know it's sad to think that way but it's the reality of the times and rest assured that we will hear from Obama today about it. Well not we, as soon as I see his face on TV he gets the auto mute button from me.

And I do feel bad for the families, I can't know how that feels, I and all of us have lost someone before, we know how it feels but the shock of a loved being murdered in a senseless way by some lowlife psycho is a feeling I don't know and of course hope never know.

Man With 2007 Vehicular Homicide Conviction Again Facing Multiple Charges
Friday, February 19, 2016

A Soddy Daisy man who served time in prison for a 2007 vehicular homicide that left one person dead and two others permanently disabled has been arrested once in 2014, nine times last year and was charged with multiple new offenses on Thursday.

Chattanooga Police arrested Steven Tyler Frizzell, 29, for possessing heroin, meth, syringe needles and firearms.

At 12:30 a.m. an officer pulled over Frizzell in the 5400 block of Highway 153 for having a headlight out.

Going to "assume" here but I would say he is doing burglaries also to buy all his drugs, which the best scenario for this lowlife would be extermination during the commission of a burglary. Saves money, court time, space and oxygen.

17. I hit it first day for Marco. Regardless of his faults, I still think it's either him or another Dem in the White House, no other options at this point.

Lawsuit over Ted Cruz's eligibility to run for president heads to court
The lawsuit in question actually has nothing to do with Trump (though, it's unlikely we'd be debating the obscure legal arguments over whether Cruz is a "natural born citizen" if it weren't for the ex-reality star). Suburban lawyer Lawrence Joyce initially filed an objection to Cruz's placement on the primary ballot with the Illinois Board of Elections, but it was dismissed earlier this month. Now the Circuit Court of Cook County in Chicago has agreed to hear the case.

You can bet the farm that if Cruz is the nominee the DNC and Clinton Mafia "WILL" find a way to deem Cruz is ineligible to be POTUS even if he wins a huge majority over Hillary in popular and electoral votes. The sad thing is, Americans will allow her to do it.

I already voted for Rubio, don't know what will come of it but it's done. I know Trump has a lead in most polls but if you add Rubio and Cruz's numbers together they easily beat Trump.

18. With the Glock 42/43 being the hot carry gun there is not much difference now between power/capacity over a .38 snubby.  The one thing taught in many classes

is with auto  misfire/jam  tap rack slide    with revolver     "pull the trigger again"

Heard a story on the internet so of course it has to be true but I can see this happening. Guy has a hangfire on a revolver, pulls the trigger again and after the cylinder rotated and fired the new round the hangfire round decided to fire. That could be unpleasant.
