  1. But that’s the thing, it’s fast and brutal. Many think since we carry a gun that we have an edge. We have an edge maybe as a bystander, but not in a full on attack on us. Most would probably go down just like those people did.

Agreed but I can tell you that if I am walking down an ally and there is a group of teenage boys walking towards me,  I sure as Hell would be paying more attention to them than the poor guy in the video.  The woman in the video that got attacked from behind really had no chance of defending herself.

  2. I keep waiting for the day they try to pass a law stating that kids must graduate from a Common Core school to be admitted into a state funded college or university.  You know the end goal is to eliminate home schooling and private Christian schools that aren't pushing the government agenda.

  3. Just got bumped from 50 to 100 megabaud (is that correct term?) per second for the same price! Is FREAK'N fast! They also dropped the price on 1000 mbs price to something like $70? My better half called them and they said we could upgrade to the 1000 mbs for ten dollars more a month. So, from 50 to 100 was no extra charge, then to 1000 for ten bucks. Suck eggs Comcast!!!!

I mean this in the nicest possible way:  I hate you!!  I live in the boonies and can't get EPB, Hell I can't even get Comcast.

  4. I have been wearing Bates for years.  I do have and like Danner boots as well but I spent 2 long weeks in the Hell pit of lower Louisiana after hurricanes Ike and Gustov doing disaster recovery for HHS.  16-20 hour days in the heat and muck and they held up fine and my feet survived just fine in my Bates.

  5. My wife's sister lives here in Chattanooga but commutes 2 days a week to the Northern perimeter of Atlanta for work.  My bro in law have repeatedly told her that at the first sign of things going South she needs to get out of that Hell hole immediately.  No time for finishing the business day.  Grab your purse and get in the car.  Atlanta would be nearly impossible to escape from by car almost immediately.

  6. I have an average of 22-25 college students that work for me.  I have not and will not ask to befriend them on Facebook.  On the flipside I have had about a dozen of them request to be my friend and I will accept.  Not sure why they would want to be my friend but I find it to be a useful tool when one of the calls in sick then checks in at a downtown bar a few hours later.  Had one chick tell me she needed to be off for 2 weeks for a mission trip then began posting pics up on Daytona Beach with all her friends.

  7. I am in no way advocating driving after drinking but it is my personal opinion to take the blood test.  I will occasionally have a beer with dinner then drive home.  Certainly not impaired or above the legal limit but I am not willing to trust my future to a machine that is kept in an officer's trunk.  Of course you have to be willing to be cuffed and hauled to an ER to have your blood drawn, to me its worth the trouble.  I am a reserve deputy but my main gig is ER nursing.  I have drawn many blood samples for DUI over the past decade.  I think that my technique is consistent and the results more accurate than a machine that gets slammed around in a car all day.

Again, this is all opinion so dont ask me for research data on accuracy and such.  They legally have the right to test me, I just want it done the right way.

  8. I will admit that I liked the Dixie Chicks back in the day.  I wish that all artist would just make music and stay the Hell out of politics.  Sadly some of my favorite bands are the most vocal (REM, Dave Matthews Band, Pearl Jam....)  I did listen to the 30 second samples of the songs on that album a week or two back and it did nothing for me personally.  I love Pink Floyd and the remake was pretty blah in my opinion.  Just my .02.

  9. I can't swear to it at this point as it's just been too long but in my former home state of Ohio I am pretty sure that before one could become a police officer (city, deputy sheriff, highway patrolman, etc) they were required to take and pass a pretty decent first aid course and had to retrain on a regular basis.

I may well be remembering incorrectly but I think that's right and it seems like a very good idea given that LEOs are often the first to arrive on the scene of someone needing medical help.

Pretty sure you are correct.  I am not a full time officer but a reserve deputy and my primary task is officer safety on call outs.  I do not know for certain what training our officers have exactly.  I do know that most of ours have AEDs in the trunks of their cars so one would assume that they did cover medical issues in training.  I know that officer safety has to be a key but certainly there is some way to mix in common sense to situations.

  10. I was an EMT, am a Registered Nurse and also a Tactical Medic for the S.O.  I will not stand and defend these officers because I feel that their actions were wrong.  I watched an old episode of COPS the other night and saw two officers tase a guy that was not following commands after he was ejected from a car.  No S#*t is isnt following orders, who knows at this point what all is wrong with him.  While it is not feasible to have every officer trained to be an EMT,certainly they can spend one day in the academy teaching some common sense tactics when it comes to dealing with unresponsive people.
