  1. Just got a Kindle and am looking to dig into some good Gun/Military/War books. Can be fiction on non-fiction. First in line is "The Gun" by C J Chivers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. If I pay Red Jacket to do it, what fun is that? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Yeah, the scope from the movie is too crazy to be viable. I was thinking maybe find a giant scope and find some place to brass plate it.
  4. How viable would an actual working version of Doc Brown's lever action sniper rifle be? Does anyone make long barrels for these things?
  5. Got my SR9c back from Ruger on Thursday and took it to the range Friday afternoon. There's a laundry list of parts that were replaced and it seems to have done the trick. I fed it 200 rounds of mixed WWB and UMC ammo and it never missed a beat. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. I'd like to dip my toes into long range (100yds. or greater) target shooting for fun with the idea of moving up to the big boys (.338 or .50) in the future. I figure rimfire .17hmr or .22 is going to be the best place to start, unless there is a centerfire cartridge that is semi-affordable? .17 limits me to bolt-action which isn't a problem, but there are people that also build 10/22s that perform fairly well at a long distance, right? "Tinker-ability" would also be a big deciding factor. I'd like something I can build on as I go. What sort of magnification in a scope would I need to look for? Anything else I should keep in mind as I shop around and try to make a decision?
  7. How much more accurate is a bolt .22 over a semi-auto? Don't people build tack-driving 10/22s?
  8. If anyone needs a spam can opener, I will rent mine to you. Reasonable rates As far M44 pricing goes, I bought mine for $199 from AIM, at the last gun show in Jackson I saw a real nice M44 for $450 and a nice Chinese version for $250. They were both a lot prettier than mine, though. I'm guessing some restoration work was done on them because neither of them looked like they'd ever been fired.
  9. That's what I figured. I'll give eBay a shot, though. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  10. Got a few pieces of old jewelry I'd like to sell. I ran them by the local pawn shop and was only offered about 1/3 of the value. The girl looking at them told me they just turned around and sold it to a place that buys gold. So my question is: Is there anywhere I can go to skip the middle man? 11. Apparently they have enough of a fanbase that they're starting to sell Red Jacket 1911's to the tune of $1700. I like the show, but it's still on TV, which just a step up from being on the Internet in terms of validity. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  12. Less than 10 minutes on the phone with Kate at Ruger and they had emailed me a pre-paid label to ship it to them. So far so good. --- - Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  13. I think the driver's license analogy is pretty relevant actually. All someone has to do is demonstrate the most basic of basics to be issued a DL, even though they're getting behind the wheel of a 2 ton bullet traveling at 30-70+ MPH and could possibly endanger the lives of everyone else on the road. Everyone can't be Mario Andretti, and by the same token, everyone can't be Jerry Miculek. All the students, eventually, passed the range test and the written test. We don't deny DLs to people who don't pass the first time either.
  14. When I took my HCP class this past weekend we had a few students who obviously had never fired a handgun before. There were enough of them on the firing line that the RO didn't notice the trouble I was having with my gun having light strikes. All of them rented handguns from the range to take their test. Should someone with no experience firing a handgun, that doesn't own their own handgun, who could not display competency to reliably hit their target at a range be allowed to carry a handgun for self-defense? Should the instructor have told them they needed to practice more, refund their money and ask them to try a later class? He did make a general comment, without calling anyone out individually, that we had some people in the class that needed to practice, but everyone in the class was given a certificate. I know there were a handful that took their range test twice to pass. What's done is done, I just wanted to see what everyone's thoughts were about it.
  15. Called Ruger and they're providing me with a pre-paid label to ship it back to them. Spent less than 10 minutes on the phone to get it done. Turn around time is 10-15 days, but if it comes back working correctly it will be worth it. I really really like this gun, when it goes bang.
  16. Will keep you guys posted on how things turn out. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  17. I think there may be something else going on besides the ammo. Still, I've only used WWB ammo, so maybe I should try something else. At the HCP class I had 5 light strikes out of 48 rounds, twice the trigger failed to reset, and my last three rounds fired with only one trigger pull. (Full auto) I used both the 10rd and the 17rd mags and had problems with both. Not sure if ammo can cause all that or not. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  18. Disassembled the striker and cleaned all the factory gunk out. It was packed with grease. Will give it a go today and see what happens. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  19. I figured Ruger would have worked this problem out by now. First round didn't go bang, rest of the magazine went without issue then the last round of the next magazine didn't go bang. HCP class is tomorrow, guess I'll have to struggle through it and call Ruger on Monday. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  20. True, except it's ultimately a television show. I'm sure he was coached. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. They really edited him to be a dick. On the aftershow he was actually a decent guy. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  22. I always research online, take the lowest price I find, figure in tax, background check, and keeping the lights on in the shop and have an idea on an "out the door" price before I ever hit the shop. After that it just depends on what the shop wants to make in profit, but I usually find a place that will come within $10-$15 of my out the door price within a couple of stops. I usually don't mind coming up on the price if the salesperson is friendly either. A friendly salesperson will also get me back in the door for ammo, mags, and upgrades later as well. 23. The show needs more shooting and less drama. If I want that crap I'll watch Jersey Shore. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  24. Had a buddy tell me that he went to Robertson's a few weeks ago and when he got there they wouldn't let him in. Told him they only did sales online now. ??? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
