  1. Don't worry about how good you are, just be safe and have fun. The gentlemen that is working at the new (brand new) indoor range at Outdoor Junction showed me what some canadians had done while shooting. They managed to bounce rounds off the floor, the wall next to their lane and put 3 into the ceiling. I suspect you will start out doing much better then that especially if someone on the forum meets up with you and helps you out.
  2. I have no idea where to post this and tried searching to see if it was already brought up and found nothing. Just went to Cookeville and checked out the new indoor range at Outdoor Juction. The gentleman that was working at the range told me that shilouette targets will only be made in blue on white and the black on white background will no longer be available once the supply is gone. He indicated this was due to racial matters. Is this for real, I mean I don't care what color the target is, but if his reason is correct and this is true, what are people thinking.
  3. You obviously don't understand my point. My gun doesn't have a mind of its own and will not just start shooting away on its own, and to imply that is what I was thinking is absurd. But when you get made in the restaraunt and the media gets ahold of how some stupid soccer mom freaked out, we will all look like trouble makers. And I have heard a thousand times that people will get away with it because they conceal properly. Yeah nobody ever trips or stumbles or catches their shirt on anything.
  4. Seems to me that when the idiots in Nashville brought the suit in court saying the law wasn't clear enough and HCP holders may carry into an establishment that may make most of their sales off of alcohol. Their was a lot of complaining on the forum because they were just trying to find a loop hole to repeal the law and we were smart enough to know the differance. Yet now some want to say they will just walk by a sign because it is not worded exactly and so the meaning is not clearly defined by the law, seems like a double standard to me. If it says no guns then why give the media the ammunition they need to shows us in a bad light. I think with some it comes down to it is their ball and if you don't play the way they want, then they will take their ball and go home.
  5. Wish I could be there for the clinic. Took the one back in March i believe, but it rained like mad and the shooting was cancelled. I joined ORSA so I could learn to shoot long range and as luck would have it, I screwed up my shoulder and had to have surgery. So now I am on the side lines just watching until probably next spring. I have to say that the guys shooting in the 1000 yard league were really great and encouraged me to start shooting with them. Now the question is should I buy the Kimber ultra carry 45, or the 308 tactical rifle, once I can get back on the ship and start making some real money again.
  6. I agree that if it has any posting saying no guns, then do not go in. The media is not going to report that the HCP holder had a right to be there because the signage was not worded properly. They are only going to report that an HCP holder viloated the sign saying guns are prohibited. And even if they do report that the wording was not correct, and the person had a right to enter. They are still going to make it look like the person was just causing trouble and looking for a fight, which makes all look bad.
  7. I filled out the application on July 14, and received my permit yesterday evening in the mail. And I was planning on making the call today to check on the status. Not to bad, only 36 days wait, and today is my birthday no less.
  8. I am getting back into sailplane flying so no spare room for anything that can not be carried in my pocket in a small container. Most of these cockpits are so tight they should have to build the glider around the person buying it to ensure it fits.
  9. There has probably been russian subs patroling off our coast all along. There was when I was on a nuke sub out of Norfolk in the early 80's. Why would they stop just because the cold war ended. I can't say from any knowledge of my own, but have we stop patroling off their shores.
  10. I watched as a Coast Guard helicopter picked a friend off the deck of our ship during a snow storm. Had the helicopter gone down the crew would have been dead in a very short time in the water, even with survival suits. I have a lot of respect for the aircrews that our willing to come get us no matter what the weather is doing.
  11. O.K. other then shooting, one of my other hobbies is soaring. I have not flown in several years, but am going to get back into it after my shoulder heals up. So assuming I needed to land out in the forest somewhere and had to spend the night in the plane waiting for help. What would you cary in a personnel survival kit the size of an altoid mint can. The can has to be small and light so it can be carried in a pant leg pocket in a tight cockpit enviroment. Or for that matter is there a better option then the mint can. Your thoughts please.
  12. talked to the instructors wife and she said they had no problem with me shooting a 22. also said I could shoot all left handed as my right arm is slung up because of the shoulder surgery.
  13. I just became a member earlier this year. I went to one of the CMP courses and picked up an application. You get accepted faster if you have a sponsor, but membership in a similar type gun club or such will also work. It took a couple of months for my application to get through the board meeting and then they require you attend an orientation. Also if you don't get a sponsor you have the first year of membership to make friends and get them to sponsor you when you renew. My application process only took a couple of months using my membership in FFG sportsman club as my sponsor. Check their website to get the latest info on joining.
  14. It took me a few minutes looking at the picture in the manual before I noticed the plastic rod :doh:Stll seemed that the spring got twisted a little so I figure having a spare couldn' hurt.
  15. It only came with one spring, but I am going to pick up a spare. The only thing I don't like about the gun is the way you put the slide back on. Seems to me the spring could get damaged in the process.
  16. Took it out this afternoon and shot 10 rounds of Winchester superX into my hay field and it seemed to like the winchester. Raoul thanks for the info on the P22 bible, Downloaded it to my computer.
  17. After reading the responses I got to my dumb question about taking the carry class after having surgery on my right shoulder. I took the advice and bought a walther P22 so I can shoot left handed. Now all I have to do is practice so I can hit the target with my left hand. Thanks for the advice, I had never even thought of using a 22.
  18. Opps, forgot about the other four cylinders on the other bank. I worked on EMDs for ten years on the great lakes. Now I am an engineer with great lakes fleet and work on heavy fuel engines like peilsticks and enterprises. Nice to see another engineer out there.
  19. Hey LA 357SIG what do you do on the tow boat. Also is that a four cylider EMD and if so is that part of your propulsion or generation plant.
  20. Engineering officer on cargo ships.
  21. Thanks for the additional ifo. I think I will contact whoever I can find around Crossville about their course. it is going to get pretty boring the next 4 to 6 months being off work.
  22. Thanks for the comments. It sounds like you have to shoot with both hands. After the surgery I wont be able to move my right arm for a few months, so I guess I will be forced to wait until then. Probably just as well as if I had to draw with my left hand I would probably shoot myself in the foot. Thanks again.
  23. I have been wanting to get my permit for some time, and now find that I have the time to do so. Unfortunately the reason I have the time is because I am going to have surgery on my right shoulder and am off work. As I am right handed what I would like to know is if when you do the required shooting for the permit class, must you make a certain score to pass. I can shoot left handed, but will stink if I do, and not knowing what is required to pass the class, would like to find out. Any help you can offer is appreciated.
  24. HELP I have seen posts about not buying pistols from a pawn shop, but let me ask. A pawn shop near me has two S&W 625's each priced at $679. One says mountain gun on the barrel and the other just says smith and wesson. I have been wanting to get into revolver competition for quite some time and have heard that the 625 is the way to go. my question is, are either of these guns a good deal and what is the differance between the two of them. Thanks for any help you can provide.
  25. Hello to all, my name is Karl and I am trying to get back into shooting sports. I am currently a member of the Fairfield Glade sportsman club which is where I shoot when I am not on the ship. I am looking at getting into revolver competition shooting, and maybe long range rifle as well. I currently don't have a lot of firearms as I sold most off a number of years ago. Most regretably my AR-15 and H&K 91. Who would of figured on the ban and the price to replace them going through the roof. If anyone knows of a good indoor range for pistol near the crossville area let me know. Best Karl
