  1. If a NRA shirt is not acceptable then why do all the idiots at walmart walking around with foul and obscene garbage on their shirts not get arrested. I find someone with f#%k you on their shirt actually offensive. And I have seen a lot worse.
  2. Yep just saying that I had been a member of ORSA in the past. They used to leave the gates open during matches, I figure they still do so non members can shoot.
  3. Thanks for the info, I did not realize there was that much available out there. I was a member of ORSA a few years back, but with the shoulder surgeries and the distance from crossville I could not justify the expense. I will have to stop by as many shoots in middle Tennessee as I can get to in order to check them out. My local club does hold pistol shoots, but nothing on the scale the bigger clubs can put on. Again thanks for all the info.   Karl
  4. I would like to get into competitive shooting, but running and jumping and rolling on the ground just isn't going to work with my broken down body. So I was thinking steel challenge may be interesting, but I don't know where they shoot it around middle Tennessee. I think Dod and associates has one at the end of the month and I am going to try and check it out. Any other suggestions.   Thanks   Karl
  5. Hey I am originally from the north and this guy makes me want to puke. New York is so progressive that women walking through central park get gang raped because they can't defend themselves. Makes me happy that I moved here 20 years ago, and married a great southern lady. And hopefully I can retire from the boats in about 9 years, and only go north to visit family.
  6. Thanks for the advice, I will be in Knoxville and sevierville on Wednsday. Assuming the weather gets better, we have freezing rain at the moment on the plateau.   Thanks
  7. I don't know if this is where I should post this, but here goes. My father in law is having his birthday next month and he is retired army. Are there any good army surplus stores in the knoxville area. I have searched, but all I ever seem to find is the police gear stores that also have a small surplus section. He seems to like getting army stuff and started to cry when I handed him my M1 Garand to look at. The man is restricted to a wheel chair and longs for the old days now.   Thanks
  8. It said one of the customers saw a firearm and alerted the manager. I guess the idiot could not see the badges or police radios that were there in plain view. Just another stupid person terrified at the sight of a gun and a manager too stupid to tell the customer to sit back down. Of course we all know that anyone with a firearm is a baby killer and terrorist now.
  9. Wife just paid for me to get a savage MKII-FV 22lr, bolt action. The price before taxes and background check was $199. I had to add a scope as there are no iron sights on this model. I have read a lot of good reviews on the gun and hope to try it out if this lousy weather breaks.
  10. I was in frontier on Wednsday, the wife bought me a savage 22LR bolt action for Christmas. They had no AR's and must have had 20 phone calls while I was there asking about them. They told me they did not know when they might get any. The place was a mad house with people coming in and the background check to get my rifle took over an hour. I would have to hang a sign on the door that said. If you voted for Obama please get back in your car and leave.
  11. Thanks for yhe info, i will peobably keep the mauser as is and buy some ammo for it and shoot it occasionally. After having a gun smmith look it over to ensure it is safe to fire. I want to build a nice tactical shooter that I can shoot at the range with the other 300 yard shooters (max distance at our range). I really appreciate the information as I was not finding much on my own. seems there is alot about the 98, but not much about the 91 that I could find. Everything just went on hold as I have to catch an integratedtug barge tomorrow and get back to work. Thanks again. Karl
  12. My problem to, as I am not a gunsmith and will need a professional to help out. I have been looking at it sitting in the corner for a couple of days now and may just hang it on the wall. this is the way I got it from my father and it may need to stay this way. I would still like a gunsmith to look at it as I may shoot it the way it is if it is safe. Then it will go on the wall. Anyway i am planning to have something built around a Rem 700 action in 308 next spring. Just thought it would be cool to finish my dads rifle, but the more I read the more it doesn't sound like a good idea to me. Thanks Karl Oh, the serial numbers all match as well.
  13. I never intend to get rid of it so building something out of it that I can shoot is the best option for me, and me and my father both liked the newer look of tactical rifles. Karl
  14. Thanks for the response. I like the idea of using the action to build a new rifle from. The end of the barrel has been turned down, I believe to accept a brake, and the stock has had a part carved out for no reason I can see. The spot was carved out nicely so it was done for a purpose, I just don't know what. I wish I had talked to my dad about this gun more when I had the chance, as it just sat in his closet my entire life. I do believe it was supposed to be a deer rifle my mom was giving him as a gift, just never got finished. As I love to shoot, but know next to nothing about gunsmithing, I will have to do some serious reading about having a gun built up from just an action. My father loved to shoot like me and he would have loved to of had a tactical style rifle. If anyone can point me in the correct direction on learning about building a rifle, please point the way. Thanks Karl
  15. Hello, When my dad passed away a couple of years ago I aquired his 1891 mauser rifle. Apparently a gun smith was working on it before I was born and may not have finished what ever he was doing. Is there a gun smith in middle TN that I can take it to that could look it over and maybe do some work on it for me. I have also heard that they can be re chambered for a modern round that is available, unlike the hard to find ammo it takes now. Normally I would not spend the time on this gun, but it was my fathers and I would like to fire it again. I would also like to turn it into something a little more on the tactical style with a bipod and maybe a new stock as this thing was cut down by the way it looks. Any gunsmith recomendations would be helpfull, I live in Crossville. Thanks Karl
  16. Thanks, looked at the sites and probably will not bother putting a sight on it. The gun means to much to me, being about the only thing of my fathers that I could get before my witch of a sister sold everthing. I don't want to drastically alter the thing by taking off the ribs. Also thanks for the info about the ammo. Karl
  17. Yep, thats what the guy at the gun shop said today as well. As my eyes are not that good anymore I have gone to plan B. I bought a bridge mount for my Walther p22 and a holographic sight for it. I will still take the pheonix and play with it to see how I do. My dad probably only put 20 rounds through the Pheonix so I will still have to work all the bugs out of it. Karl
  18. Help, When my dad passed away I became the owner of his pheonix arms HP 22 handgun. Just for the fun of it I want to mount a red dot scope on it so I can use it at the local bullseye shoots, but I can't figure out if there is a good way to mount a red dot on it. Anyone have any suggestions for me. Thanks Karl
  19. Just looked at your user name the fact that you asked about cowboy shooting. The group that shoots at the Fairfield Glade club is the Bitter Creek Rangers and they are on the web but I don't have the link handy for you, but you can get to their website through the sass website. I plan on joining them myself as soon as this lousy weather lets me get out.
  20. Tabors pawn shop is pretty good. Also the pawn shop next to sonics, I think it is Daves pawn shop always has lots of guns. outdoor junction is the name of the place in cookeville mentioned earlier at exit 290 and is a real good place with great people, at least when I bought my last two handguns there. outdoor junction also has an indoor range, but I have only been able to use it one time due to my work. also Fairfield Glade Sportsman club has outdoor facilities for pistol and rifle, and a really nice skeet and trap set up. They are in Crossville and the cost is only 75 dollars a year for the whole family. fairfield glade club has several pistol groups that get together to shoot bullseye, police pistol something, cowboy action and I think a few more disiplines. hope this helped.
  21. It just started snowing hard here in Crossville at 11:50.
  22. Thanks again for the help, I thought it was Ohio that had the strange law. I will be getting off the ship in a couple of days as I got the call that my father passed this morning.
  23. Thanks for the help, I will check out the website as soon as I get into port as we get a faster internet connection then.thanks again for the help.
  24. O.K I can't seem to find the info I am looking for so maybe you guys can help me out. I will be traveling to Michigan in February to visit my dad, hopefully before he dies. I will be traveling thorough Kentucky, Indiana and Michigan. I know my HCP is honered in these states, but are there any stupid obscure laws I need to be aware of. I heard some state, don't know which says if you are carrying in a car you have to be wearing the gun or it is not legal. I was just wondering if I need to know about any dumb laws such as that on my route. I don't want to get busted because I put the gun on the seat next to me or something like that. Also thanks up front for any information you can provide as I am currently working on the worst ship on the Great Lakes and we have really lousy internet access most of the time, so my thank yous may be a while in coming. Although one good thing, are miserable excuse for a chief engineer just got busted for DWI last night and the company sent him home for the remainder of the shipping season. I guess there really is a Santa Claus. Thanks for the help guys.
