  1. I came across this forum while reading the firing line.

    I'm from church hill, tn.

I work as a tower climber/technician on the communications towers that you see everywhere.

So you're the guy who has to change the light bulbs on those things when they go bad?

I Used to be an avid gun collector/shooter but got out of it for about 10 years..now I'm picking it back up again.

Its great to see forums like this!!:up::lol::up::D

Glad to have you here with us. Hope you visit often!

  2. Most accounts I've seen lately have been around 45 days or so, I guess the

electronic prints speed things up a bit.

Maybe their efficiency is improving too...like that could happen with a govt. agency

Ahhh... electronic fingerprinting would definitely speed things up. They were still doing the inkpad and paper thing when I transferred my KY permit to TN back in 1998.

  3. on that note, I heard a rumor a few years back that Clinton had passed a bill requiring an additive to gunpowder for reloading that gives it a shelf life..is that the case?

I hate to sound like a noob..I've been out of the sport for almost 10 years and am now picking it back up again....so just reading the posts is good fodder for my cranium!:up::lol:

I've never heard of that and a cursory search of Google didn't turn up anything. It sounds like an urban legend and logically seems that it would have been impossible for the Clinton Administration to pull off and force the manufacturers to follow.

  4. First and foremost, welcome!

Second, I have been a past member of TFA and really should renew my membership. Part of the reason that I started this forum was the fact that TFA's own seems to get so little traffic anymore and locally TFA's visibility seemed to drop off the radar.

Are there no longer Rutherford County chapter meetings? The folks at On Target (the previous host location) said that they had no idea what has become of the organization.

Would love to see Mr. Harris stop in here occasionally as well, but I realize he's got to be a busy fellow.

  5. No I didn't.

I'm sure someone notify them. I'm certain they would fix the problem if they perceive it as such.

One would definitely hope so! I hope you don't mind but I reposted the comments from this thread over on XDTalk with changes made to the names of parties involved just to protect the innocent.

I want to see if anyone else has had these problems and if Springfield has or is doing anything about it. As you said, it may never happen to a clean weapon but we don't always have the luxury of having clean weapons.

Along a similar vein... did you get to fondle the new Glock 21SF at Shotshow and if so, what did you think of it? The pictures give me a serious jones to add one to the collection at a later point in time.

  6. The magazines were the issues in the pistol class. The magazines were dropped in the talcum-like dirt a few times. After that the follower would stick and the rounds would just fall out of the magazine. Is that going to happen in a clean enviroment with your perfectly clean gun, probably not. But why would I want something that doesn't perform in those conditions when I can have something that will?

I agree that this would cause justifiable concern. I remember when Glock magazines didn't have metal liners and would bulge, causing them to jam into the magazine well. Glock corrected that and I wonder if Springfield would correct this issue if they were alerted to it.

Did you send Springfield a letter or email about it?

  7. One of my many regrets is not having had my grandfather teach me reloading before he passed away. He was a beat policeman, assistant chief of police, head of security for a nuclear plant and an avid, competitive marksman for more than half of his life.

Unfortunately he retired from competition before I was born and we never even got a chance to shoot together after I became involved with the hobby. He did teach me the basics about firearms and is the man who first put me behind a 22LR as a youth and taught me how to shoot, though.

  8. I had asked a question about reloading over on XDTalk and was sent the following in a private message. I have not investigated this yet so I cannot speak to the accuracy of the information, but it is something I will be following up on when the time comes.

f you are serious about looking into reloading be sure and review the RCBS Pro 2000 progressive press and the station on that press that has a powder check die. It PREVENTS you from double loading or from not loading. By PREVENTS I mean the press STOPS and will not let you continue until you fix the problem manually. I have used this press for about 12000 rounds now and I have yet to have a squib or a double.

  9. Put simply, when we went through the fighting pistol class the only guns that did not malfunction were the glocks. XD9's, XD45's, Sigs and more were crashing left and right. I ran my Glock 17 the entire weekend without cleaning it and it operated flawlessly.

That is my experience, I'm sure others have much more to add.

That's odd and certainly deviates from what I have experienced myself with the XD and the experiences of others that I have read or heard. I know that the Glock is a reliable gun, but the XD has proven to be just as reliable in my own experiences with it.

I have 800 rds to date through my XD45C and it has never jammed. I may do an experiment with our XD9 Service and not clean it for a thousand rounds just to see how it does. It's not a carry weapon so it won't be putting anyone in harm's way to do this.

In fact... I just made up my mind. 1000rds without cleaning. We'll start the experiment with my next trip to the range with it. ;)

  10. The Glock is the more reliable pistol as well. I found out the hard (expensive) way.

Very interested in hearing more about this. I have owned Glocks for years and recently standardized on XDs.

  11. I definitely don't intend this statement to be construed as any sort of official stance of TGO, but my mentality is that if a firearm is properly concealed, no one should be aware of it's existence no matter where you are.

Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6... that sort of thing.
