  1. http://www.denverpost.com/breakingnews/ci_23634504/federal-judge-post-office-violated-mans-rights-by#ixzz2YgUC9FoS   In a nutshell:  Parking lot OK, building not so much..
  2. I'd go out of my way to patronize a place like this:   http://wtkr.com/2013/02/15/virginia-beach-pizza-shop-offering-discount-to-gun-owners/
  3. I think some folks aren't getting what this is saying.. It means that a Govt agency can GO ON YOUR PROPERTY to attach a GPS tracking device to your vehicle sitting in your driveway WITHOUT obtaining a warrant, unless it's fully fenced / locked / etc (which then enters into a situation where only those with enough money to erect walls / fences / whatever have any expectation of privacy). If this doesn't disturb you just a little bit, well...
  4. +1 for The Beltman in NC from yours truly, too. I'm one of those of "greater girth", and with the WallyWorld special I had prior I found myself frequently "adjusting" while walking, and could never set and hold the right tension with the cheezeball belt. Enter the Beltman product.. 1.5" with the stiffeners is what I got, and it really changed the game for carrying a 21SF in an MTAC. This belt is Heavy Duty. Not only will it keep a significant weight / size weapon in place, but I think, in some cases, it could also significantly reduce juvenile delinquency.
  5. 21 SF .45, simple and reliable operation, and fits my hands. Hey, Kool-Aid! Oh, wait... It works for me. I'd not say that I "promote" it to everyone, but I'd recommend anyone that's in the market at least take a look at one.
  6. I thought I'd dredge this one up and answer the question: Went to the park today, and the only sign I saw was "No outside food or drink allowed." So had a nice day in the sun watching the dogs do their thing.
  7. If you're military and have gone through handgun qualification / training in the last 5 years, then TN will at least let you skip the HCP class: Effective July 1, 2005, Tennessee handgun carry permit law will now allow certain applicants already exempt from complying with firing range provisions of the current statute to also be exempt from any classroom requirements. Those current exceptions are applicants who prove to the department that within five (5) years from the date of application for handgun permit, the applicant has: Been certified by the police officer's standards and training commission, or successfully completed training at the law enforcement training academy; or successfully completed the firearms training course required for armed security guards; or successfully completed all handgun training of not less than four (4) hours as required by any branch of the military.
  8. The Chop House 4870 Harvest Mill Way Knoxville, TN 37918 (This is the one on Broadway in Fountain City..) No signs at entrance or elsewhere that I saw when dining there last Thurs.
  9. I was thinking along the same lines, but didn't know if anyone had seen signs, etc.. Might actually not have to go in, as it turns out. A friend from the left coast is coming in for the event, I might just meet up with them after and have a bite. Thanks!
  10. Yes, yet another "can I carry there" thread.. So, folks in Chatt, can I? I looked it up and it appears to be privately owned, so not a city / county thing.. Anyone know of signage, other stumbling blocks? Goin' to an event there next month.
  11. First- Hmm.. There may be hope for this planet yet.. Second - Thanks to all the ones that could go and did. I couldn't, so didn't.. Third: When did they start Emailing the permits??!!
  12. Ahh.. The People's Republic of California.. As bkelm18 said.. If you can get a permit there, you have a LOT more freedom on where you can carry than many other states. Even in TN. It's just that "May Issue" thingy getting in the way.. What you might want to consider is obtaining a non-resident carry permit from one of the states that offers them, such as Florida. While also not honored in CA, it would give you some carry options if you take trips outside the state.
  13. But I've got a 21 SF stuffed into a MTAC at 4:00 right now... If it can handle a 21 SF comfortably while sitting, I can only assume that you'd almost forget you're wearing a 19.
  14. Even if they DON'T live, it's highly likely they have family who would sue. If you have to pull the trigger, expect it no matter what. But that's where 39-11-622 comes in: 39-11-622. Justification for use of force — Exceptions — Immunity from civil liability. — (a) (1) A person who uses force as permitted in §§ 39-11-611 — 39-11-614 or § 29-34-201, is justified in using such force and is immune from civil liability for the use of such force, unless: (A) The person against whom force was used is a law enforcement officer, as defined in § 39-11-106 who: (i) Was acting in the performance of the officer's official duties; and (ii) Identified the officer in accordance with any applicable law; or (iii) The person using force knew or reasonably should have known that the person was a law enforcement officer; or ( The force used by the person resulted in property damage to or the death or injury of an innocent bystander or other person against whom the force used was not justified. ( The court shall award reasonable attorney's fees, court costs, compensation for loss of income, and all expenses incurred by a person in defense of any civil action brought against the person based upon the person's use of force, if the court finds that the defendant was justified in using such force pursuant to §§ 39-11-611 — 39-11-614 or § 29-34-201. [Acts 2007, ch. 210, § 3.]
  15. Well.. There is this: 63-6-218. “Good Samaritan Law.†— (a) This section shall be known and cited as the “Good Samaritan Law.†( Any person, including those licensed to practice medicine and surgery and including any person licensed or certified to render service ancillary thereto, or any member of a volunteer first aid, rescue or emergency squad that provides emergency public first aid and rescue services, who in good faith: (1) Renders emergency care at the scene of an accident, medical emergency and/or disaster, while en route from such scene to a medical facility and while assisting medical personnel at the receiving medical facility, including use of an automated external defibrillator, to the victim or victims thereof without making any direct charge for the emergency care; or (2) Participates or assists in rendering emergency care, including use of an automated external defibrillator, to persons attending or participating in performances, exhibitions, banquets, sporting events, religious or other gatherings open to the general public, with or without an admission charge, whether or not such emergency care is made available as a service, planned in advance by the promoter of the event and/or any other person or association, shall not be liable to such victims or persons receiving emergency care for any civil damages as a result of any act or omission by such person in rendering the emergency care, or as a result of any act or failure to act to provide or arrange for further medical treatment or care for the injured person, except such damages as may result from the gross negligence of the person rendering such emergency care. © A receiving medical facility shall not be liable for any civil damages as a result of any act or omission on the part of any member of a volunteer first aid, rescue or emergency squad that provides emergency public first aid and rescue services while such person is assisting medical personnel at the receiving medical facility. (d) If: (1) A volunteer fire squad is organized by a private company for the protection of the plant and grounds of such company; (2) Such squad is willing to respond and does respond to calls to provide fire protection for residents living within a six (6) mile radius of the county surrounding such plant; and (3) The plant is located in a county that does not otherwise provide fire protection to such residents; then the members of such volunteer fire squad, while providing fire protection within such area outside the plant, shall be liable to suit under the provisions of the Governmental Tort Liability Act, compiled in title 29, chapter 20, part 2. [Acts 1963, ch. 46, §§ 1, 2; 1976, ch. 551, § 1; T.C.A., § 63-622; Acts 1985, ch. 338, §§ 1-4; 1994, ch. 556, § 1; 1998, ch. 963, § 5; 1999, ch. 488, §§ 1, 2.] Insofar as it affecting the outcome of a judgment for whether or not it was a legitimate shooting.... Dunno. If you fall back to the concept that if the situation arises you are shooting to neutralize the immediate threat to your or other person's lives, NOT to kill someone.. If the threat is neutralized and you can then render aid, I can see it actually helping your case, as you were continuing to act with the preservation of life in mind. And it's a scenario that has happened with a paramedic: Paramedic shoots, then saves robbery suspect - News Now - The Flint Journal - MLive.com
  16. Heck, at the Post Office I use we'll typically have a smoke, a rum and coke, and figure out postage while cleaning guns on the table... Of course it's actually a neighbor's house and he's real big into EBay stuff, so he's got all the good stuff: Priority boxes, labels, etc.. Honestly, between online bill pay and the ability to ship direct from home, I've not needed to go near a Post Office in a couple of years.
  17. Yep, got it in the mail today.. I guess good things can happen mid-April..
  18. He's got his HCP, so I think the "clean legal history" is a given.. Not to talk down on any branch, but before you sign off with the Army, go check in with the Air Force, see what they're offering these days.
  19. I'll go further and say that I pledge to not tell ANYONE they don't have it posted right... Restaurant, mall, whatever.. Should be part of the HCP training and a line you have to initial on the application, IMHO.
  20. Ok, folks are wondering why I'm laughing here.. Even if they DO have on body armor, a couple rounds there are going to make them pause for a moment.. Always get a shot off quick.. It upsets 'em long enough to make your second shot perfect.
  21. That's how I'm looking at it.. Besides, isn't the old motto "in bed by 8, home by 11"? Of course, I don't get to carry at work unless they can shove through one of the "Campus Carry" bills.
  22. I was surprised.. I ordered 1.5" C clips knowing I've got a belt en route, but went ahead and "tried it on" with one of my regular old belts (1.25" or so), and it still was good. It w/ a 21SF didn't head to the floor immediately with my pants like I thought it might.
  23. Hmm.. I got a pack of Smarties with my MTAC.
  24. That's because you're in Scott county.. They don't run the stage up through there until they get a full bag. And besides, they have to stop off at the Rooster Scratch on the way which means another day or two delay..
