Newbie to Newbie,
Welcome! I think you'll find this to be a great group, and it looks like you will have some interesting stuff to offer.

HiPoint here as well, got me on the road to loving PCCs.
I'd also like to have a new Ruger, but other than higher mag capacity and non proprietary mags, want and need are not lining up.
I'd definitely have something in .40-.45-10mm if I carried or shot those calibers.
Well, now I'm into double-confession. Yikes! I also have a Hi Point .45 carbine. It's even more fun than the 9mm, but definitely way more expensive to just blast away with, so the 9 usually gets the action when it's carbine time.

I will confess ---- I have a Hi Point 9mm carbine There, I said it!
It's actually a lot of fun to shoot, and has a lifetime warranty, though I've never had any issues with it.
I'd like to have one of the new Rugers.

I've not been able to find how they're defining "high capacity". This is the bill they refer to, but I don't see it in there.
"High capacity" is defined in the bill as >10 for long guns and >15 for handguns

It may get signed but it ain't signed yet. He has attorneys looking at it so that means it is not on his desk yet............JMHO
I dunno. He says he supports it. Here's what the Wall Street Journal just had to say about that:
Gov. Scott said in a statement after Friday’s vote that he supports the new bill, along with two other gun-control measures that are advancing in the legislature, because he believes they uphold constitutional rights “while taking reasonable steps to reduce the risk of violence.” A spokeswoman confirmed he plans to sign all three bills pending a technical review.
-
The Vermont legislature just passed and sent to the Governor a gun control bill, including a ban on "high capacity" magazines.
This, from a state which has always been Constitutional carry, and always had open carry for both long and handguns. Who knows, those are probably at risk now.
It's gettin' ugly out there........

Sounds like someone got what they deserved in Tennessee last night...............

I hope the left wing media and their admirers go absolutely nuts with this repeal 2A agenda, in time, energy and money. Let them antagonize the great silent majority and exhaust themselves on the impossible. THEY will then be the ones that find out what a slippery slope it is, and we will rejoice at the sight of them all piled up in a heap.
-
This stuff is getting out of control. Banks dictating customers' gun policies, restaurants not serving uniformed armed cops ---- what's next?

Thank you! I go out to Wyoming about every other summer and visit my buddy's ranch outside of Dubois. When we go into the local bars, people I haven't met yet ask where I'm from, and when I say "Chicago" they just about go into a catatonic state. Then I laugh and smile, and say something like "NO! Don't worry, I'm not one of THEM!" It breaks the ice real fast and we get to talking, and they see real fast that we're on the same page. So I have no worries.

Beyond that, I will only add that I seriously doubt if there is anyone else looking to get out of ILLannoy that is a lifetime member of the NRA, the Second Amendment Foundation, and, yes, TGO! I know a good thing when I see it.
-
There are a bunch of ILLannoyans that you do need to worry about, and I sure hope they don't follow along and wreck my experience, and yours. On our final drive down there I'll toss out a few thousand pounds of nails at the IL border....
-
Guess that's kinda what I figured, since that was the third comment along those lines. I can certainly understand that, I'd probably have the same kinda doubt if the situation was reversed. We were going to move to Colorado, but it is getting so "Californicated," as they say, that we didn't want to move there and watch a great Western state get destroyed.
So the good news is: I don't have any Damn Yankee ways to bring with me. And I'm damn glad of that!
-
What could I possibly want to change about Tennessee? TNBuckeye, what does "Just don't go trying to change too much stuff" mean? I'm honestly confused........sorry

There are so many folks leaving ILLannoy that U-Haul is having a problem getting trucks and trailers back here. It's a one-way street.
Our state legislature is now voting for all sorts of gun control madness. Can't wait to get the hell outta here!
bersaguy: Thanks! We're now in Streamwood, between Elgin and Schaumburg. That's about 35 miles NW of downtown Chicago. Spent 30 years in Park Ridge.
Thanks for all the good wishes, everyone. Looks like we've got a shooting party at ORSA with this group right here. Terrific!

Here's a real good review of the Federal offerings: Hydra-Shok, HST, and Guard Dog. Bottom line, looks like HST best Federal round for carry, and Guard Dog best for inside-home defense

Thanks, Guys. Nice to meet you too! And a couple of ORSA members as well. Can't wait!

Highly recommend Federal Guard Dog 45 ammo for carry. They are 165 grain, but run at over 1000 fps. Very unique design that expands every time yet feeds like an FMJ. They run great in my 45s, same ones as the OP has.

Can't wait to move to Tennessee. We've had a few decades of ILLannoy ---- hey, we're slow learners! Anyway, the wife and I are gonna move down there, near Knoxville, this fall, and we're really excited about it. I have a number of firearms (arsenal?) and enjoy all outdoor sports. The Oak Ridge Sportsman's Association looks especially interesting. Would appreciate any comments on that.
You guys can't imagine how different your forum is from my current one in IL. You're talking about fun stuff, and we're talking about whether the Gov is gonna sign the bill that would make everyone who owns a mag over 10 rounds a felon.
Like I said, can't wait to move to Tennessee! Oh, to be around like-minded people................

Can't wait to make the move to Tennessee. There's no hope for ILLannoy.
The Deerfield nonsense is catching on like wildfire. Suburbs around Chicago are holding "town hall" meetings on Saturday, in a very well coordinated left-wing effort.
Here's a sense of what's going on. Caution: Depressing! Don't let Tennessee even begin to start down this slippery slope.
