Despite the rep of Memphis, it is a major metropolitan city.

There are areas of Knoxville I don't drive through, day or night, armed or otherwise.

Wow, I'm still stuck in ILLannoy for a few more torturous months, but I had no idea Knoxville had areas that fearsome.  Chicago, sure.  We have bonafide war zones. But Knoxville?  Yikes.

Well can't thank for enough for all the insight into this issue I have with my  dog delima that probably is not as much as I think it might be. I live kind of a routine life syle these days and Darby is learning it pretty well. I eat supper pretty close to 5PM and that is when I feed her and she knows when it is close to 5 oclock cause where ever she is at about 15 minute before 5 she will be following me around every move I make. I can look at my watch and it will be close to 5PM about every day. Quackersmacker may be right and I may very well be over thinking and over complicating this whole issue about her food. I want her on a dry food if possible because it is just a lot less religious timing thing. Put food down and when the bowl is empty or close fill it again. Can't do that with wet food. today I will try one of the recomended foods I will pick up at the store and give it a dedicated effort to find the one she likes and my life will be less stressful.

Oh Quacker, I went fishing last night on Percy Priest Lake fished 5 hours and caught 31 bass both Largemouth and Smallmouths and had a great evenng. Not bad for first time back on the water in about 2 years.

31 BASS!    Now I really can't wait to move to Tennessee!!!!!!!!!!!   Congrats, and glad you got out!

  4. Ok, you're on your way. If anyone at the bank mentions the word "medallion"   you need to tell them that what you need for the transfer is a "Signature Guarantee."   The "medallion" is what they have. It's a piece of metal.  The "Signature Guarantee" is what you need.  It's ink on paper.

Well she has been to the vet twice and when I got her she weighed 26 lbs on first visit and on second visit she weighed 32 lbs so she is eating enough to gain weight and the vet keeps giving her a clean bill of health. I am thinking now it is more of adjusting for her. I was able to learn a lot about her back ground from her original owner that raised her from a puppy till she was 5.5 years old and she was their baby and they spent a lot of time with her. That is where the stick fetching was taught along with other things. Then they had a baby girl and Darby was no longer the center of their attention and Darby became jealous. They had her about another year and when the baby began crawling everytime it got near Darby she would growl at the baby so they put Darby in the garage till they could fgure out what to do with he and finally put her up for adoption at a dog rescue where she went on a hunger strike and would not eat anything. She went from 38 lbs down to the 26 pounds she weighed when I got her. The Vet at the Dog rescue center had discussed puuting her down if she did not get adopted and gave her 1 week. She was scheduled to be put down on Friday and I adopted her on Wednesday. I do spend a lot of time with her and she loves to ride in back seat of Jeep.

Of course right after I got her I had my heart attack so friends were coming to the house taking care of her for me. I do spend a lot of time with her and give her a lot of attention.

Tonight will be a real test for her since I have not left her alone for more than 30 minutes or so at a time but she is going to be on her own in the house for about 5 hours. The Vet told me that dogs have no perception of time and  I think she is correct since every dog I have eveh had seems as happy to see me when I am gone 30 minutes as I am for 4 hours and I will see tonight I guess. I'm going fishing.

Geeeeeeeeez, please just go fishing, and be as relaxed as your dog wants you to be.   You will find that's a 2-way street.  Just let it happen. Stop thinking.

  6. I recently retired, having been a stockbroker for 40 years.  Man, was that crazy!

I would say TD Ameritrade, Vanguard, Fidelity, in that order.   I use TD.   Actually any of those will serve you very well.  They all have it figured out.

Maybe this will help.  It's easier to do these transfers than you think.  Millions of people have done it --- you can too!

They weren't making any money off guns to begin with. I would love to see them go bankrupt. But, I reckon the soccer moms don't share that.

55% of Dick's sales are in apparel and footwear.  Those are showing sales growth everywhere.  Also, Dick's reduced inventories across the board (not just guns) so they had less purchasing expense in this quarter.  They've been expelled from the National Shooting Sports Foundation.   I'm never gonna shop there again, but lots of people will, and most of them either don't care or just don't know any better than to not support these traitors.

  9. FOID is really the only relevant gun law in this case, for both guns and ammo.   Chicago's registration scheme  was blown up by the courts years ago.

Also, any magazine over 10 rounds may soon be in trouble with what they're trying to do in Springfield at the state level.

And also, at the state level, they're trying to revoke the preemption law that stopped every stupid unit of local governments from enacting their own laws.  If that happens, we'll have a mess of totally insane different laws every few miles in this totally insane state of ILLannoy.

Oh, one more.  Chicago prohibits laser sights on guns.

    This might be helpful: http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-met-chicago-gun-laws-explainer-20171006-story.html

But I kind of agree with a few others here:   If she wants nothing to do with guns, why push this issue?

  10. It's a massive potential problem.  It is so much easier for one bad actor to grab and hide terabytes of data, than to know that he/they ever did that, and then get it back and erased with certainty. That may even be impossible. The ONLY way to protect against this is to stop data collection from even happening at the earliest and lowest level.

The Illinois FOID system is not a bad system as far as useless background check systems go. But it should be pointed out that it is required for more than just firearms or ammo purchase. It is required for mere possession also. Having a single round on you or having a loose round in your vehicle can be cause for arrest; even in your own home. An otherwise law abiding citizen can quickly become a criminal with a “Weapons” conviction if they don’t get a FOID card and make themselves aware of all firearms laws prior to handling or possessing any guns or ammo.

Excellent points.  I should have said those things.  Thanks for completing the info!

Oh, I understand the process, but again..pass.  If this comes to us, you really think we will get a choice?

That's a great question.  If it comes down from Washington, no choice, and they will mess it up beyond comprehension, and it will be a whacked out, overly complicated national registration scheme.  I have no doubt of that.

That's why we need to be ready at the state level, and we need to know what we're talking about.  It's only if we can build support for a better "scheme" that we have a chance.  That's why I'm telling you guys about this.  Your legislators MAY need educating and we HAVE to stop the feds from just running amuk.

So the onus is on the seller to maintain records on himself?..pass.

Yes, that's always been the case in many states, maybe yours.  And certainly on all FFLs.   I haven't looked at TN requirement.  What's the big deal?  A piece of paper in your gun safe, toss in 10, or whatever your state requires.  Or don't keep it.  Not really much practical risk either way.

  14. Omega, maybe this will help you.  Here is how it's done:  https://www.ispfsb.com/public/firearms/foid/persontopersonfirearmtransfer.aspx

That is the only thing that happens.

Damn, I'm not a cheerleader for ILLannoy firearm laws, but if this is the direction in which we're headed, you guys should at least be aware of this option before whackos in your state capital, or in Washington, give you a REALLY messed up system.
