  1. I've forwarded the info on to some people, just have to wait and see what they can do with it. Regardless, the mayor or aldermen more than likely will bring it up anyway. It's small town politics.
  2. Greeneville Mayor And Aldermen Mayor Laraine King 423-639-7105 Alderman Sarah Webster 423-638-7006 Alderman W. T. Daniels 423-639-2626 Business 423-639-5111 Recently elected: Alderman Buddy Hawk No info yet Alderman Keith Paxton Business Phone - 423-639-9800 Owner of Little Top Drive In. It might help send a message if you patronize his business and let him know your position. This is an updated list of the aldermen as the town website has not been updated since the recent election.
  3. Butch Patterson is the paid director of the parks and recreation dept. Roger Woolsey is the county attorney, not the city attorney. I am not sure if the board receives compensation for their services, but Patterson is a paid employee of the Town of Greeneville. Since the newspaper article doesn't say otherwise, shouldn't he have abstained from voting as a conflict of interest? town of Greeneville, TN Website, Parks and Recreation
  4. If they don't want carry on the ballfields/tennis courts at Hardin Park, declare them part of school property since there are 2 schools beside the park and leave the rest of the park open for carry. They can't enforce their skate park rules, how can they provide added security by the police to make the park safer? Since Kinser park is a joint effort by the city and county, I wonder if they are going to try to get it banned? It's leased TVA property.
  5. The Greeneville Sun - News Story The Greeneville Parks & Recreation Advisory Board voted Thursday to ask the Greeneville Board of Mayor and Aldermen to pass a resolution banning firearms from Greeneville's parks. Guns In Parks At the outset of discussion of the issue of guns in parks, Parks & Recreation Director Butch Patterson passed out a newsletter from the Tennessee Parks & Recreation Association indicating that 21 municipalities across the state had passed resolutions banning firearms from their parks. Twenty-four other municipalities were said to be working on similar resolutions. The action came on a motion from County Attorney Roger Woolsey, a Parks and Recreation Board member. "I believe in the Second Amendment [to the U.S. Constitution, which guarantees the right to bear arms], but I also believe there are limits to Second Amendment rights," Woolsey said. He cited a recent opinion issued by Tennessee Attorney General Robert E. Cooper Jr., which held that state law "prohibits handgun-carry permit-holders from possessing firearms in public parks during times when the athletic fields or other recreational facilities are actually being used by schools." Woolsey said students from the Greeneville school system use athletic fields at Greeneville parks on a regular basis. In addition, he pointed out that all five Greeneville and Greene County high schools also use the Tennis Center on Hal Henard Road. Parks & Recreation Advisory Board member Bill Isbell also noted that Greeneville Middle School uses athletic fields at Greeneville's Hardin Park. Isbell seconded Woolsey's motion, and the board voted unanimously to recommend that the Greeneville Board of Mayor and Aldermen act to ban firearms from Greeneville Parks & Recreation facilities.

  11. Was that at the I26N/11W off ramp? Wednesday morning I was waiting at the light around 7:20 and there was a guy that meets that description with a piece of cardboard that said would work for food standing there. I was on my motorcycle and within about 10 feet of him.
  12. The Greeneville Sun - News Story This is the small town near the site where the 3 members of the Lillelid family were murdered in 1997. They were abducted from a nearby rest area on Interstate 81 and taken to a deserted dead end road just outside the city limits of Baileyton. 3 of the 4 city officials mentioned in the Greeneville Sun article were in office at that time. 13. I was listening to WCYB News and they said JC "reaffirmed the state law prohibiting guns in parks." Nothing about opting out of the new state law that allows HCP holders to carry. This is what WCYB has on their website. WCYB - Guns In Parks Posted: Friday, 03 July 2009 12:41AM Guns In Parks A city in our region is saying no to a state law. Last night Johnson City commissioners voted to re-affirm a law prohibiting guns in parks. The law also gives cities the right to make their own choice regarding guns in parks. Last night Johnson City took action to do just that. At a city commission meeting, commissioners voted to re-affirm an ordinance already in place prohibiting guns in parks. This is the second controversial handgun law passed this year. Last month, the Tennessee General Assembly voted to override the governors veto to prohibit handguns in establishments where alcohol is served.
  14. What about demanding fair and equal treatment if an injunction is ordered by demanding that all restaurant owners that serve alcohol search their patrons before entering in order to comply with the injunction otherwise it is discriminatory against HCP holders as the criminals will only be the ones carrying? All the arguments that the opposition offer apply to those that choose to carry in defiance of all laws. I live near Virginia where you must open carry in resturants that serve alcohol and have not heard anything about shoot outs there.
  15. Was reading one of the online newspapers this morning about a convicted felon sentenced in federal court for possession of firearms and ammunition. The very last paragraph of the article was this: "The firearms have been determined by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives to have been manufactured outside Tennessee and therefore, to have traveled in interstate commerce, according to the plea agreements in both cases." This will be a bill to watch.
  18. I was fingerprinted 1-6. Called on 2-6, was told it had just come back and she would go ahead and print it. Then she told me it would be 2 to 3 weeks before I received it. Came today in the mail (2-19) and was issued on the 9th.
  19. Since the records are public information until something is done, how about demanding TDOS release them as only one record per request instead of providing the whole database? This should satisfy the requirement to be publicly available but the person requesting will have to provide some specific information and not get the whole database. And if it is $80 per request, the state can come up with some badly needed money.
