  1. Knoxville Hamfest & Electronics Exposition Hamfest this Saturday in Knoxville. It will die around 11 to noon so go early.
  2. VHF/UHF can reflect off hills, mountains, and other objects in and out of a hollow. Working the local guys on 10 meters via ground wave might not work well. If 10 meters was open, you would not have any problems working stations several hundred miles away. 20 meters would be open a lot more than 10 meters and you would be surprised at how far you will hear and talk, even in a deep hole. On equipment, a lot of commercial 2 way FM radios are on the surplus market at cheap prices because the FCC is making commercial users go to narrow band by Jan 1, 2013. These radios are not obsolete for ham use. The biggest drawback is they usually require some kind of special programmer or interface to a PC and the freqs cannot be changed easily while driving down the road. But you can buy several of these radios and a programmer interface for the price of a new 2 meter mobile. I'm an extra, been licensed for 35 years.
  3. Does this new langauge take away the right of the property owner and employees to carry since there is no exclusion for them if they post?

  5. From Greeneville, go south on Hwy 70 past South Greene High School. Just before you start up the mountain you will see a sign on the right directing you to Hurricane Gap/Paint Creek Rec area and turn there. When you get into the park at the campground area, you can turn right and follow the creek several miles down to the French Broad River or turn left and go up into the mountains and come out not too far from Hot Springs.
  6. Back in my early 20's a buddy and me took a couple of ladies for a spring drive through the mountains at Paint Creek Rec area in my CJ5 on a nice Sunday afternoon. As we drove down one of the isolated 4wd drive roads I spotted a pair of panties lying in the road. We laughed as my buddy hung them in a branch about 10 feet over the middle of the road. On Monday I go to work and one of the girls that worked with us was boasting about going to the mountains in a guy's 4WD on Sat night. I asked her if she had been to Paint Creek and she laughed when she said she might have been. I informed her that we had found her panties and hung them in a tree over the road if she wanted to go back and get them. She turned many shades of red and stalked off as everyone laughed. To this day I still think that was her panties. That fall went deer hunting and drove down the same road before daylight but came in from opposite direction. Came around curve and the headlights shined very brightly on that pair of panties still hanging in that branch over the road. Of course had to remind the girl about that when I went back to work on Monday.
  7. A comment from one of the members of the local tea party group: According to citydata.com , there are 5797290 Tennesseans. He sold us collectively for $99,000,000.00. Do you realize he considers you (and me) to be worth only $17.08 each? That’s exactly what he sold each and every one of us for.
  8. Tennessee sells surplus at www.asset-auctions.com. TWRA has sold confiscated guns at public auction on that website in the past but only FFL license holders were allowed to bid.
  9. Wildlife Resources already sells confiscated firearms at public auction. They also sell bows and the auctions are listed publicly but only FFL license holders are allowed to bid. www.asset-auctions.com Not seen any sales in a few months. I've also seen confiscated liquor, beer, and cigarettes auctioned. IIRC, to purchase the liquor you had to have a liquor license.
  10. These companies are also offering them. Classic Arms might be the best place if you got a holster like the one shown in the picture. www.centuryarms.biz - have to have C&R on file and ask for access to see pricing. Firearms CZ-82 Czech 9x18 Makarov Military Pistol Part #CZ82-GUN
  11. Don't ask, don't tell, don't touch when on school property. And pray we don't have another Columbine or Virginia Tech because our lawmakers won't allow the staff the option to be armed.
  12. I'm curious if someone knows if carry is prohibited at the convention or banquet? There is a big write up at WND about Farah's speech and responses from the crowd. Farah: 'Government wants to be your 1 and only god' About 1/3 of the way down the page is this: "Do we have the right to bear arms or not?" "Yes!" they responded.
  13. Was the web based system shut down also or available when the live people went home?
  14. Shoulder holster or OWB, depending on weather, mood, and carry gun. As for transport, always field strip and put slide in a 3rd location. I don't want a functional gun lifted if I have have to be away from my bike for a few minutes.
  15. How much trouble is it to build an AK from a parts kit? I know some parts are riveted and I assume that is the biggest hurdle to overcome. Is this a project that only someone with a lot of experience should undertake or can the average joe complete it without much trouble?
  16. AIM Surplus has the CZ82's posted again.
  17. From AIM SURPLUS: AIM Romanian TT-33 7.62x25 Pistol Romanian TT-33 7.62x25 Pistol Urgent Safety Recall Notice! Romanian Tokarev TT33-C Pistols purchased since October 2009 and Imported by I.O. We are sending our customers notices by mail with instructions from I.O. Inc. as to how the returns/repairs will be made.
  18. I noticed that AIM Surplus removed their CZ82's from the website this evening. Maybe the supply is going to dry up?
  19. Shot Wolf, Brown and Silver Bear through mine. No problems with any of them. Comment made by a buddy of mine is it throws the empties into the next county.
  20. I've had mine for about 3 weeks. Got it from AIM and was very happy. Only problem is one of my magazines doesn't want to feed hollowpoints. I think I need a new spring. Cheaper Than Dirt had the best price on ammo and got it to me quickly.
  21. .410 single shot is my favorite skunk gun.
  22. My 500 that I bought new back in the 80's had a plastic safety button. I had to replace it several years ago.
  23. He will be in Greeneville, Aug 28th, 5:30 pm to 7:pm at the Greeneville Light and Power Building at the corner of College and East Church Streets.
  24. I had an incident that happened a couple months ago where LEO's responded to my property when I found teenage trespassers in my barn at 1 am. I wasn't holding them at gunpoint when the deputies showed up more than 20 minutes later but the kids sure had the 4 letter word scared out of them when they were called out of the barn and faced me armed with an assault rifle. I was never asked for any ID by the LEO's or told my actions were improper.
  25. I can't praise Bersa. The Thunder 9 PRO may be a different horse but the Thunder .45 UC Pro I bought in late Feb and fired 15 rounds (2 magazines) through had small chips come out of the slide around the ejection port and has been at the warranty repair center for almost 5 months. The warranty center told me last week they are still waiting. Eagle Imports blew me off when I requested they replace the gun since it was taking so long and an obvious defect in materials. That gun will be looking for a new home when it gets back.
