  2. Tennesseans will soon have a new driver’s license starting July 1. This license is called "Real ID," which will soon be issued to allow the state to meet federal standards under the REAL ID Act that primarily affects domestic air travel. Tennesseans must have the new license by Oct. 1st, 2020, in order to fly domestically without another form of identification. Dorothy Durr is a Tennessee driver and a frequent flyer. She just learned about the new changes to Tennessee driver’s licenses and IDs. Durr says she's definitely going to get the new ID. “As long as it’s not too much trouble,” said Dorothy Durr. “I travel often. So if it's going to make things easier, then I'm for it.” Currently, 4.5 million people have a Tennessee driver’s license. As of right now, all of those are compliant with the REAL ID act, according to the Department of Homeland Security, but that will soon change because the roll out of the changes has been in stages. The next stage is the REAL ID license, which will add a gold star to the driver's license, which signifies it as a federal ID. Tennesseans aren't required to get the upgraded driver's licenses. However, if residents don't have a passport, the Real ID cards will be needed to fly on airplanes, go into federal buildings or enter military bases. Tennessee's Director of Drivers Services Michael Hogan says the new license will not cost more than the original one. “It has to be a certified birth certificate, or a U.S. passport if you were here,” Michael Hogan said. “If you are here with a legal presence in the country, then there are various forms.” Hogan says this program has been rolling out in phases across the country. This legislation began in 2005 during the George W. Bush administration. “That was one of the concerns with the hijackers of 911 because a lot of them have been here past their authorized stay,” Hogan explained. “So this right here ensures it.” Hogan says other states have only seen a 20 percent increase in people getting the new license. So he does not expect high volumes from DMVs in Tennessee. Durr says she just wants the process to be fast and simple. “There are always long lines at the DMV,” Durr said before laughing. Tennesseans can expect the new IDs to be issued this July. How do REAL IDs differ from current IDs? The REAL ID is a regular license that adds a gold star. That gold star allows you to get through security when you’re flying or allows you to enter a federal building. It designates your license as a federal form of identification 42 other states are already issuing these license If you do not get the REAL ID, your license is only a state license, not a federal license and when you renew your license it will say “not for federal identification” You will have to have the Gold star license, passport, military ID (or other TSA approved ID) to get on a plane in the U.S. If you choose not to get the star you cannot travel by air with your driver’s license Without the REAL ID, you won't also won't be able to enter a federal building starting in October 2020 How will that process work? Does everyone have to go to the DMV? When you go to renew your license you will have to present proper documentation -- same as what the state has always required in the past when you come in to TN – social security card, birth certificate/passport, two proofs of residency Do drivers have to pay for the new license? How much? If you are renewing your license, you’ll pay that normal fee when you go to get your license with a gold star If your license is current, you will have to pay an $8 duplicate fee to get a license with the gold star
  3. Yeah I see that one, but was wanting to bling it up with Midwest But thank you for replying.
  4. Can anyone help point me in the direction for a replacement QD mount for the Burris AR-332 scope? I just need the base that connects to the rail I think because the once that comes with it is pisch. I really dont want to lock-tight the one that the scope is no now. I was just unsure of which one to choose, and if you call Midwest or email they are so small a company nobody ever gets back to you.
  5. Tried that a few times The point is though. They would be better of spending that money elsewhere, I even asked the lady that called em to take me off the list. Yes sir, we will do that immediately, and still it goes on. Now I am sure I can call back, and that's on me, but regardless, it should not be forced down anyone's throat at the level they do.
  6. Don't it looks awesome? I did not want to spend the money on a bass boat and by the time I would have put money into A Kayak the way I wanted it to be fitted out your like $5k in. So this is the perfect compromise!
  7. Had them all my life. With the exception of hand guns of course. Sold everything I owned before I moved to the US 6 years ago. Slowly building up my arsenal again. I hate that word arsenal BTW, it pains me to write the word. Wish is could be changed to Manchester United.
  8. I need to rant! I am a proud member of the NRA, I am 100% for everything they stand for and the work they do to ensure our rights our protected. I am a life member, I would wholeheartedly recommend my friends join, but NRA, STOP WITH THE DAMN SPAM! Emails, mails, telephone calls! They are worse than those Chinese Bank Of America scam calls. Just stop! Spend MY money on folks that are not members, spend it on advertising, spend it on more perks for me! I had a "Director" of the NRA call me up a couple of weeks ago, I told her the same exact thing. Just non stop, forced down my throat spam. Stop it! *Rant Over*
  9. After mucho deliberation, and after clearing this with the financial adviser (i.e. the wife) I am going to get one of these . Going to look at one on Saturday!
  10. Well it's here! Just went to the FFL to do the do! As I am not a Citizen it always takes a bit longer, has to go through ICE, but they will call me when I'm cleared. I'll post pics when I get it
  11. I actually went to the Post Box in Mt Juliet. Top tip, as soon as you are done at the DMV, make your appointment at the Post Box, You will get to choose a date, normally a week or so out. Then show up at the Post Box, plead ignorance (or talk with a British ascent like me) same thing right? and then ask if they would take you then. As long as you have a scheduled confirmation number they should take you
  12. When I drove down, I actually called every state police dept before I left and asked if I was good to drive through and the date I was coming (I did not give vehicle details). I got the name of the officer I was talking too, and the badge number. What I can say is each and every one of them appreciated the fact that I called. Not sure if it was the standard thing to do, but made me feel happier
  13. All I know is if you went to NJ and did that you’d be doing a stretch on Rikers! So glad I moved here
  14. Ok , so what I can take from this is I can lock it in the glove box and I am good. As long as the vehicle is locked of course. Thanks to you all for taking the time to reply ! Awesome!
  15. Tenn Code Ann. 39-17-1313 First paragraph, section 1, bullet point B Is kept from ordinary observation and locked within the trunk, glove box, or interior of the persons motor vehicle or a container securely affixed to such motor vehicle if the permit holder is not in the motor vehicle. And just to be clear, I am interested in taking my handgun to work but leaveing it in the car, in the parking garage.
  16. If you read the law pertaining to it is a little misleading , because it’s starts of by saying that you can store the weapon in a locked glove compartment, but then goes on to say that it has to be in a lockable source attached to the vehicle.
  17. Thanks Ron, but is it ok to attached via a cable? Or does it have to be physically bolted?
  18. WOW - This is such a coincidence. Did not even read this thread and I put my H-Bird feeder up today! I actually put right down the of the yard, but I am going to move it closer to the house. Do Hummingbirds prefer a certain location? Here is a shot of one I took back when I lived in NJ.
  19. So I am looking to get a little gun safe to put in the truck (Silverado 1500) - just wondering what you are using and how you fix it to the truck. There is a caveat with this, I don't want it bolted directly into the truck, so would want to use something that allows for a cable. I was going to looking for something under the back seats that goes directly to the truck that I could attached the cable to. If you don't think this would be a good option, or even not permitted please let me know. Would love to hear your thoughts. I was looking at this, seemed to get good reviews. Was not 100% sure if a cable attachment would be legal.
