  1. I know a teacher that asked her first grade class what they wanted to be when they grow up. One little girl said "I want to be a drawer" The teacher said "O, you want to be an artist? To which the little girl replied "Hell no. I want to draw a check like my mom and grandma.

  2. My wife's cousin is a disabled Vietnam Vet. I am astonished when I hear his troubles with the VA. Often, after waiting weeks or months for an appointment, when he arrives he is told the person he was supposed to see "went home early" He is rated 65% service related disability but it seems like it should be 100%. He can barely get to the grocery much less work. Truly a sad way to treat those that gave so much
  3. The ceiling is the porch. It's really the only concrete that is exposed on the outside and the inside. No wet areas anywhere else. I talked to our contractor today. He thinks just putting a good tight door on the room will keep the warm air from the house out and let the area under the porch get cool enough that I won't get condensation. I still think some kind of insulation is needed.

    Thanks everyone for the suggestions.
  4. The area is 8' x 40' x 10' high. The floor is concrete with a vapor barrier, the walls are about 80% below grade and are waterproofed the same as the rest of the basement walls. The ceiling is 4-5" of concrete over corrugated steel (core form I think it's called) and is under the roof of the house. There is no opening to the outside, only a doorway to a unfinished part of the basement. I'm pretty sure the water is not leaking in from outside but is condensing when the ceiling is cold. When it's above about 40 degrees outside, no problem. I tried running a small heater, but it didn't help or made it worse.
  5. Our house has a large area under the front porch. All walls are poured block, the floor is concrete and the ceiling is concrete over metal form steel. I had hoped to use it for long term storage and a storm shelter. The problem is that when the weather is cold moisture condenses on the ceiling and it rains inside. I thought about having it spray foamed, but they want $1,000 minimum to do the job. Anyone have any ideas on how to stop the rain?
  6. Randall53,

Don't take it too hard, I have often thought of the same problem. When the wife and I started building I actually looked into using insulated forms, where you end up with a solid concrete house which is then finished normally on both sides. Unfortunately the cost was well beyond our budget and the wife wouldn't go for the 18-20 inch thick walls, even if we could have afforded it. We will have a retreat room which is poured concrete block with a solid concrete ceiling. Not impenetrable but definitely will give me time to shoot back. Just do the best you can.

  7. If nobody cares what I might post and I sure as hell don't care what somebody else posts, why would I want to waste my time? That's the great thing, you can use it all you want and I don't have to.
  8. I guess I will continue not using Facebook, twitter or any other social media. I just prefer that fewer people rather than more know my business. I don't do much that is illegal however I think it would be hard to go through life without breaking any laws.  I would guess that I probably know somebody who knows somebody that might be breaking a lot of laws or associating with a group that I don't want to be associated with.
