No. Only told him that if/when he chooses to post his business, he will be marked as HCP unfriendly, and that info has a way of circulating. Not only will (websites etc.) state his view of permit holders, but will offer alternatives for us to patronize who share our ideals and choose not to restrict us from legal carry. -

guns in restaurants Inbox X Peter Demos to me show details 12:23 PM (4 hours ago) Reply Adam: Thank you for writing us about your position on guns in restaurants. As a gun owner myself, I know the arguments for allowing guns. I received about 150 calls before we decided what to do with most (80-90%) saying that they would not eat with us if we allow guns. I also spoke with several police officers as well. I knew no matter which way we decided, we would lose customers. Also, I knew that 80% of restaurants surveyed were going to post no guns along with shopping malls that have already decided on this issue. This was purely a business decision based on the facts that I had in front of me at the time. I know the commitment that people who have carry permits have, but unfortunately, I did not hear from many people who wanted guns until after the decision was made. I will consider more of this, and I still have not posted the signs. I hope that these sites you refer to do not post our name until these signs go up as this will create more problems for both sides. I understand if you do not want to eat with us, and I really hope you change your mind. I am asking all people to please contact their state representatives and ask them to actually make a decision on guns instead of making restaurants chose. I hope you understand that I do not want to lose a customer, and I have lost sleep over this decision. Regardless of what I choose, I am going to be wrong, and people will be disappointed in us. Again, please help me change this law where the legislature will do the right thing instead of trying to save their chances for re-election by riding the fence. Discussion on posted restaurants
VolunteerGuns replied to Fallguy's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Something people often times do not consider, is we 250K have families, who if even aren't HCP holders, still support us. Add that to the folks who dont give a .... ............ BAM... The majority DO NOT HAVE ISSUES WITH OUR LEGAL CARRY!! The problem is a few thousand are loudmouth AHats. They are heard while we the majority sit silently on our hands. This also accounts for the events happening in our country as well- we listen to the few and watch our way of life, and the way of life our ancestors fought and died for, SLIP AWAY. Another gripe all together. Sorry, I get a little beside myself sometimes. -

Just realized today that I work with a county commissioner!! Saw a write up in the local paper (Putnam County) and see that during prelim discussion about park carry, he has voiced his opinion and turns out he is one of the two pro 2A we have out of 9!! Committee weighs in on guns in parks Laura Gwinn Herald-Citizen Staff Tuesday, Jul 14, 2009 PUTNAM COUNTY — A resolution to not allow guns in Putnam County parks, including the fairgrounds, will be presented to the full commission Monday after a lengthy discussion on the matter last night. However, one commissioner is worried about consistency with other towns in the county. “We have to opt out or support by Sept. 1,†Johnnie Wheeler, 5th District commissioner, said in her presentation to the committee. Michael Medley, 7th District commissioner, voted to support the resolution and send it to the full commission. Larry Epps, 1st District commissioner, voiced his concerns with it. “I’ve spent quite a bit of time at the city work session today and there are some items to consider,†he said. “When this item came up... there’s the potential for a lot of incongrous, inconsistency within the county. What I mean by that is that you can have each entity involved in our county opt in or opt out. In essence, we could have a situation within the county where one entity that chooses to carry guns and one that chooses not to. This inconsistency could present, I think, some terrible situations. I was hoping we could somehow try to get some consistency within the county. I would ask the commission to consider is to get an intergovernmental committee together with the city...all the representatives of Baxter, Monterey and Algood and see if this committee can come up with a recommendation to get us all on the same page.†Commissioner Jim Martin agreed, saying that this would be a beneficial process while commissioner Dale Moss believes it may be an infringement on the Second Amendment. “Do you stop here or are you going to take the right to carry guns away all together?†Moss asked. County Executive Kim Blaylock assured him that the county can only enforce what the statute allows them to do. Ron Chaffin with the fair board expressed concerns with it, saying that this doesn’t involve the concealed weapons law. “I’m not against gun-permit carrying people,†he said. “I’m concerned with (the fact that) you don’t have to conceal your weapon when you go into the gates of a park. What’s to keep somebody from running up behind them and taking it out and shooting people? That’s what we’re giving them the right to do. I’m concerned about the people that are going to be around those who don’t have a gun permit.†The resolution will go before the full commission Monday at 6 p.m. It seems to think they are very good at listening to reason, but he (I) needs FACTUAL info to spread around. Thing is I said I'd help him out,(he'd really be helping us) BUT gotta get it TONIGHT, and TOMORROW!! Going to take a weekend trip to Pigeon Forge and won't see him again till the day of their meeting!! He says he has only been approached by a few people and they have no problem with park carry, but he needs something to back up what we say. As it stands now, the county is looking to follow the lead of the city of Cookeville (opt out) as they are not well informed. Going to CCP Appeal to get numbers of permit holders, but need ANY FACTUAL INFO I CAN GET MY HANDS ON... QUICK (percentage of permit holders convicted with a crime, etc..)as well as some REAL GOOD arguing points for the cause(short).. HELP!!! Thanks in Advance:D HELP

cards for gun banning establishments
VolunteerGuns replied to a topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
A couple of questions... How many members here @ TGO??? How many HCP holders in Tennessee??? Why are the users of TGO not able to create a GOOD, EASY TO ACCESS database of ALL ANTI 2nd Amendment Restaurants??? It should be listed by city and alphabetically. People should do their homework- Get/list their information, address, telephone number, names of the manager, general manager, etc. People need to step up and get this information AND SHARE IT! HERE ARE OUR TEETH... Not only do you leave a little "no guns, no $$$" but it should also list that their establishment will be added to a LEGITIMATE "DO NOT PATRONIZE" database (possibly providing a link on the card) for the QUARTER MILLION PERMIT HOLDERS to know that they as well as their families business is NOT WANTED, as well as informing us of their competitors nearby who want to do business with us!!! Let these business operators know that by posting they are ALIENATING A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF BUSINESS.. Also a nice letter sent to the higher ups at some of these places with a couple hundred signatures on it saying you've lost my/my families business might get a little notice. I got my signin' pen inked up. Any thought??? -

Cookeville Police Chief shows his IGNORANCE
VolunteerGuns replied to VolunteerGuns's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
From (www.putnampit.com)Not since Police Chief Bob Terry was caught sending pornography to now-suspended DA Bill Gibson, except maybe when Eric Hall killed the Smoaks family dog execution style on I-40, except maybe when a cop was busted for drugs, except maybe when Officer Birdwell got drunk and shot another cop has Cookeville police looked so out of control. Don't you wonder why Bob Terry still has a job? Best known in the past for collecting more overtime than anyone on the city payroll, Cookeville police Chief Bob Terry now has a new claim to fame: he uses the city's computer system and Internet account to distribute pornographic images to other government employees, including District Attorney William Gibson, The Putnam Pit has learned. During a Cookeville city council meeting Thursday, Feb. 17, the council was handed copies of email sent from Terry to Gibson and others, depicting a close-up graphic of a cigar in a woman's vagina and the words: The Monica Lewinsky Humidor . . . there's nothing like a good smoke after an Oval Office poke . . . Two years ago, a city employee was fired for browsing to porno sites on city computer equipment, and Cookeville taxpayers have spent tens of thousands of dollars in legal fees to keep secret what dozens of government employees do with their computers at work. Testimony in January disclosed that City Manager Jim Shipley's computer operations manager was ordered to run from the building so he would not be present to provide records. Meanwhile, the city has refused to allow remote access to its email system. On Thursday, The council responded by lashing out at the messenger and avoiding the central issue: There is selective enforcement of laws and policies. In another issue involving Terry, the city has refused to release records of a police department scandal stemming from transmission of sexual messages between a female city employee and the police chief. The chief and the woman are not under investigation. But Sheila Holloway, a police department employee who discovered the messages and reported the abuse of city equipment, was named in an internal affairs inquiry. While the "investigation" continues, Terry can keep the record of his own sexual correspondence secret. The female employee whose correspondence via alphanumeric pager was discovered by Holloway, suddenly 'resigned' after Shipley reportedly told her, "either you or Terry has to go." At Thursday's meeting, Councilman Steve Copeland asked: Can't you find one good thing to say about Cookeville? The answer: "Well, you are a very forgiving community." "Put that in your paper," Copeland said. The Putnam Pit obtained the complete email system of the Cookeville government and has offered for months to meet with the council and share the information. On Thursday, council members denied they had been contacted or invited to meet, although Copeland acknowledged a meeting last year on unrelated topics. All electronic communication to council members is first filtered through Shipley's office. After the meeting, Councilman Harold Jackson told The Pit's lawyer, Samuel J. Harris, that he has his "nose up (editor Geoff Davidian's) ass,” then attempted to have Harris arrested -- by Terry. -
Cookeville Police Chief shows his IGNORANCE
VolunteerGuns replied to VolunteerGuns's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Hopefully our council will not end up with the same opinion as this fool. Not only is he putting up the same old "no right to defend ones self" attitude, concerning park carry, he also put in a cheap shot regarding restaurants. Cane Creek Park has for sometime now been turned into almost a brothel for all sort of NASTY things.. Tell us again about NO Crime?? Not terrible, but only getting worse by the day. Terry needs to worry little less about b*tching on HCP and our level of safety and a little more about Continuing Education of Himself and SOME in his department, (like what to do when making a traffic stop, and encountering a FAMILIES PET!!) -
Police chief opposes guns in parks Mary Jo Denton Herald-Citizen Staff Tuesday, Jul 07, 2009 COOKEVILLE -- Police Chief Bob Terry says he hopes the Cookeville city council will not allow guns to be carried in the city's parks. He also hopes that Cookeville restaurant owners will forbid gun-carrying in their establishments. Chief Terry feels there is no need for anyone to carry weapons in city parks or restaurants, and he fears for public safety if that is allowed. The state legislature recently passed a new law allowing those with gun-carrying permits to carry weapons into state parks and into restaurants, but city governments may opt out of the law by voting to forbid gun-carrying in city parks. In Cookeville, city ordinances already forbid guns in city parks, but now, under the new state law, the city council must choose to continue those ordinances or else allow what the state law now allows. The council heard public comments on the issue last week and asked for more public input before making a decision at their August meeting. Chief Terry said today that he is concerned about public safety if guns are allowed in city parks. He said he and Crime Analyst Sheila Holloway Julian checked police records for the past three years and found there has been very little crime in city parks. "Violent crimes in parks here is just non-existent, so the argument that people need to carry guns there to feel safe does not make sense to me," Chief Terry said. He also stressed that he is fully aware of how passionate "a lot of people are about their guns." "I totally agree with the Constitution and the right to bear arms. I have no problem with people having guns in their homes or carrying them with the proper permit. But I took an oath and I'm very passionate about protecting families and children, and so far, I just haven't heard a good argument for allowing guns in parks. "I will also say that I come from a long line of avid sportsmen, but guns are not the issue here to me. I just think a city park is an inappropriate place for citizens to be carrying guns. I think families like to take their children to places where they don't have to worry about who's carrying a gun." He said all kinds of dangers could result if the measure is passed. "What if somebody who has a gun permit carries a gun out there and leaves it in a purse or somewhere for just a few minutes and a kid gets it? What if people at a ball game in a city park get mad over a game, as they sometimes do, and do something stupid with a gun?" He said the fact that gun carriers have legal permits does not ensure safety. "We license people to drive, too, but that doesn't stop drunk driving or wrecks." Chief Terry said he realizes his position "may not be the popular one," and he acknowledges that there are opposing views on the issue even within his department. "But this is not a popularity contest, and I just wanted to say how I feel about this issue. I think we should continue to ban guns in city parks."

Council delays guns in parks decision Mary Jo Denton Herald-Citizen Staff Friday, Jul 03, 2009 COOKEVILLE -- Will it soon be legal to carry guns in Cane Creek Park and other city parks and recreation areas? A decision on that question was put off by the Cookeville city council last night so that the five council members can have time for "further study," as Councilman Ricky Shelton put it when he moved to postpone the matter. "We've received a lot of comment on this, and I think we should defer it for further study and just listen to public comment tonight," Shelton said. The other council members -- Mayor Sam Sallee, Vice Mayor Jean Davis, Ryan Williams, and Alma Anderson -- agreed and settled back to listen to citizens who came to the meeting to express their views. The issue is whether to continue the city code that forbids carrying weapons in city parks. Under a new law passed by the Tennessee legislature recently, by September, those who have handgun carry permits will be allowed to carry guns into public parks. But cities are allowed to opt out of the law for their city parks, and some cities have already done so. Cookeville's current city ordinances include the following ban on weapons in parks: "It shall be unlawful for any person to carry in any manner whatever, with the intent to go armed, any razor, dirk, knife, blackjack, brassknucks, pistol, revolver, air rifle, air gun 'BB' gun, or any other dangerous weapon such as hand-thrown spears, bows and arrows or crossbows, or any other implements designed to discharge missiles in the air or under the water which are capable of destroying animal life." Citizens on both sides of the issue spoke to the council last night. Some said they fear what might happen if people carry guns into city parks, while others said they would feel safer if guns were allowed there. One man said, "I think you should continue to prohibit guns in these areas. I think of the Sportsplex on the west side of town, where children participate in sports. I would hate to think of people taking guns there." Another man, who said he is a "transplanted military retiree," claimed that even though the city already has banned guns in city parks, he sees "concealed weapons there every day." He said being able to carry a gun in public parks might save lives by providing protection against such criminals as kidnappers and rapists during the time it might take police to respond to a call for help. Dr. Sam Glasgow urged the council to continue the ban on guns in parks. He said he is concerned about children and said there are more firearms deaths in this country than in other countries. "Law enforcement agencies are primarily opposed to increasing handguns in public places, and we should listen to them," Glasgow said. "As Cookeville Police Chief Bob Terry has said, this is not Dodge City." Susan Ford told the council, "I would like to see guns continue to be prohibited." Don Burton said, "A lot of time, money, and expense was done recently by our representatives in (the legislature) studying guns, and they decided overwhelmingly to allow guns in state parks. And I don't know how we think the city is smarter than they are." One man said he fears that if guns are allowed in city parks, some people who get angry enough watching kids' baseball games to "punch the umpire in the face" might "just be irrational enough to pull out a gun and shoot the umpire." John Johnson said he seriously doubts that anyone who would punch an umpire could "get through the background checks" required for a handgun carry permit. He said he believes crime decreases when criminals know that potential victims have guns. Max Atnip said he also believes the fact that "there are people in our community who can carry guns" makes for "a pretty good deterrent" to crime. "Let state law prevail," Atnip said. Council members thanked each citizen for their comments, and Councilwoman Alma Anderson said, "We encourage all people who feel strongly on this issue to seek out council members and let their opinions be known." The council will take up the matter again in August.
