So.  I was on my way home from work back in October.  Came upon a cyclist on the side of the road missing his head and right arm.  The right arm was in my left lane and the head was nowhere to be seen.  The cycle was about 100 yards ahead (no pun intended.)  The dashcam video is... unforgettable.

    And your point?

    “Motorcycle bad!”

    Don’t buy one.

  2. This is simply a classic example of "it's not what you say, it's how you say it".  Usually when you start a conversation with "Hey, Dumbass" it doesn't go so well.

My real consternation about this whole thing is I have a hard time not starting most conversations today without "Hey Dumbass".

  3. I turned mine last fall so the stalks and things could decompose.  I ordered a new tractor in November.  I may not have a garden at all at the rate things are being produced.  I'm not man enough to till mine with a walk behind.

I am thinking of setting up a raise bed greenhouse to start a few things though.  My buddies dad created a bed the size of a screen door and place the screen door on top.  Just open it to work and close it for warmth.  Open the screen for nice days  Thought it was an easy solution without having to build a big greenhouse.

Even now with your phone authorization for passwords and such.

If you are referring to reCaptcha, there are other options.  hCaptcha is an option that does not save personal info when you have to validate against robots.  Whether or not a company uses them is a different matter, but there are options out there and gaining traction every day.

If I had to have only one bike it would the the lightest mid size Adventure Bike I could find since my days of being in any real trail or woods terrain on two wheels are behind me. That way I could enjoy some backroads on a comfortable yet still capable bike with an upright riding position one day and hit a few forest service/dirt roads the next. I could commute to work with relative ease and even knock out a nice long weekend trip with a bit of luggage and some highway miles if I wanted.

This was exactly how I ended up with my Tiger 900 GT Pro.  If I did more offroad, I would have got the Rally Pro version.   I put Trailmax Mission tires on it in place of the factor road based tires and it has been a really nice all around bike.  Granted, I have only had it 6 months, but so far so good.

Is there a good forum for learning more about these types of bikes? I know I see some street legal bikes that look more like dirt bikes which I'm interested in. Not sure where to look.

Adventure Rider as peejman mentioned is pretty well the go to for a lot of this.  What you are referring to is categorized as a dual sport bike.  Basically a dirt bike with headlight, mirrors, and turn signals to make it legal.

What I would really like to do is what they call a BDR ride which is a Backcountry Discovery Route.  https://ridebdr.com/.  Some are more technical than others, but I think it would be a lot of fun with the right group.  It's one reason I bought the bike I did.  Comfortable enough for a long ride, light enough for decent off road use.

I wouldn’t mind riding, but I expect I’m a pretty long ride just to get to where you guys are.

Yeah, that's the problem.  I think for you and I it would be something like meeting in the Lebanon area and go from there.

Or a couple of groups from different areas that meet in the middle for lunch.

  8. I looked at the 850GS and the Africa Twin before deciding to buy the Tiger 900.  Mainly came down to weight.  I wanted something I could take on light offroad and if needed lift myself.   The other two are noticeable heavier.  I didn't ride the Pan America, but it does have good reviews for the most part.  I probably still wouldn't have went with it due to weight.
