  1. Ultimak + Micro Dot = co-witness.

Do all the "Micro" red dots co-witness the same? Aimpoint, Fast Fire and others? I'd like to put one on my AK. Already have the Ultimak, but hate to put more in the optic than the gun is worth. I've got a 2x scope on it now just to check the accuracy. Think a dot scope would work better.

  2. How often does the Davis console update? I have an Oregon scientific that when used in wireless mode only updates about every 120 seconds. Which is fine for temps, but for wind it's fairly useless. If I wire it in I get 8 second updates which is much better.

  3. went around lunch time yesterday. Bigger than last time with an additional building. Little different layout made moving around a little easier. Lots of people.

Bought 1K of 62 gr. 223 tips for $68, thought that was a pretty good deal. Same stuff on tables as most other shows. Some walking around sales, they mostly thought more of their guns than I did. Did see some money changing hands several times, and paperwork being filled out, so I guess there were some deals to be had.

    $7 at the door, I had a $1 coupon.

  4. I'm really surprised a company still produces a printed catalog like this considering the cost, postage and so on when the web is such an economical alternative. All that being said, I'm glad they do as I sure enjoy looking through it and it will likely buy a thing or two.

  5. Looks like another gun show is scheduled for this weekend in Lebanon at the Ag. center. There's a $1 off coupon in the local papers. I don't remember what the entry fee was last time, maybe 6 or 7 bucks.

I know many panned the last show there, but I thought it was ok for a first time deal. Mainly because it was local and hopefully by supporting it, it will get better over time.

I'm not affiliated with the show in any way, just would like to see a show in Lebanon take hold and make a go of it.

  6. My P22 will not digest the Federal bulk, always one or two mis-feeds. Mine is an early model, maybe a new mag would help? The Remington bulk runs pretty good and some old wildcat shot well. The Federal doesn't even want to run in my Nylon 66 and it usually shoots anything.

I also can't get my P22 to shoot high enough. I've got the shortest font post mine came with and it still shoots low. Wish I could fix that.

  7. I never really like the way the front pistol grip, or the wire stock looked so decided on this one I'd go my own way. I really don't like the looks of this add on folding stock either, preferring the one that requires modification to the rear trunion, but I picked this one up pretty cheap off a forum so had to go with it.

I've got a Romy with a front pistol grip and it shoots and feels fine. I built this one just to be different all the way around.

  8. Having built a bunch of them, if you're just wanting an AK go buy one. If, on the other hand, you like fooling with them, using a file, hammer, pliers, bigger hammer, punches, rivets etc. then there's nothing like making one and being able to say you did it all yourself. You can heat treat just the FCG holes with a propane torch so that's not a big deal. Having all the other tools is nice and the build can come out real spiffy.

Make one 'cause you want to make one, not 'cause you just want an AK. Used to be able to build one for really cheap. Probably not a whole lot of difference now in the price of a ready-made one considering the price of parts kits these days.

  9. Opening a new bottle of #9 is kinda like getting the hot glue gun out. You might as well just go ahead and squirt some glue directly on a couple of your fingers, they're going to get burned before you're done-- at least that way you won't be surprised when it happens!! ----- it's a new bottle, it's gonna turn over on ya.

  10. I think part of it is the ammo used in the AKs. Usually it's some cheap import stuff. I"ve got a 2x scope mounted on mine via Ultamak mount and the accuracy sucks. Even at 25 yards I can easily tell the difference between it and my AR, or FAL for that matter.

Haven't tried any hand loads in it.

They are what they are. There are some slow motion videos on YouTube showing the barrel whip during firing, I'd bet that's part of the problem. As far as reliability, it runs and runs and runs. When the weather warms up I may run some more tests, but my previous sessions were not impressive.

  11. good job, I made a similar one for my P32. I started with an eyeglasses case and included a flap that optionally goes over the top to cover the gun in case my pocket isn't deep enough to cover the top.

Seems like the ready-made ones I see sort of like this either don't cover the whole gun, or are flipped around the other way. I've been carrying mine for at least 5 years. May need to make another one.

  12. Been there done that. Let her pick it out. If she won't carry it it's not doing her any good. As much as I don't understand it, looks is much more important than effectiveness. I personally like the Kel-tec pistol for easy to use and price. I had one customized for my wife so it would look pretty.
