  1. Looks like Gallatin Gun Club range.

I bought a Mossberg model 44 back in the 80s, paid $85 which wasn't all that sweet at the time, but it was a neat gun. Had Property of US gov't stamped on it. It's one of the best shooting rifles I have. Has a full length stock. When I first got it I left it pretty much in as received condition. The stock was a little dinged, had sticky varnish and was not a looker at all.

One of my buddy's buddy thought if you didn't have a top notch gun you couldn't expect it to group good. He had nothing but $600 rifles. I finally had enough of it so we had a 50 yard shoot off against his Kimber .22. I smoked him, he shut up after that.

I've since bought two more Mossbergs from the CMP. Both were sold as rusty and I think they too were $85. Both are tack drivers. When one came in pre drilled for a Mossberg scope mount I put an old externally adjustable brass tube 4X on it. Man it's retro to the max. and it's a beauty.

  2. The only one I've had in my hands was with the newer Desantis Super Fly with the removable flap ... I found it for sure too bulky, matter of fact even without the flap it's too bulky as it's made with thicker stuff than the Nemesis.

As much as I like leather, I think Kydex is the way to go for pocket carry. Thinner the better.

that's exactly the reason I'm using a homemade outfit right now. Guess maybe some repairs are in order.

  3. I have a Don Hume back-pocket holster, but can't quite access it as quickly as I would like with it; so I use a Desantis Pocket Holster for my front pocket that works really well with khaki's or dress pants.

Is that Don Hume designed for the gun to be on the outside of your pocket, or is it the large square part of the holster to be on the outside? I'd kinda like to have a new one for my P32, but am concerned if the gun were on the outside it would print through my jeans. I'm using one I made that doesn't do that, but I've been using it for years and it either needs repair or replacement.

  4. I regularly carry a Keltec .32 with the top two rounds being cor-bons and the rest Fiochi FMJ. The Cor-bons are really short and I don't trust them not to rim lock below the first mag. round. I do carry in my back pocket with a custom wallet holster. It stays fairly clean and I've taken it out on numerous occasions and fired it without cleaning just to see if it would work after carrying it. It does.

I alternate between it and a Kel-tec P11 9mm, depending on where I'm going and how I'm dressed. Though I find myself carrying the .32 more often.

I can dump a mag inside 6" at 20' pretty easily and pretty fast. It would need to be reserved for up close and personal work. Although I have shot Bianchi plates at 25 yards with some concentration. I've also shot 55 gal. drums fairly close and the rounds bounced off. Wonder if a perps head is about as tough as a drum?

  5. I was a bit skeptical, but my son really wanted to see it so we made it a father son affair. We both enjoyed it. The tree hugger/liberal theme was there, but less in your face than what I expected and no more than most other movies. Actually if you imagine the bad guys (the ones with guns) as being our current administration trying to ram something down our throats, and we, the blue people, fighting back with everything we have, then it's really a good movie. It's all in how you spin it!

    :)

Did have one unfortunate incident at our showing. Some rude teenagers sitting two rows back apparently checked their manners at the door and wouldn't shut their mouths. They seemed to think everyone around them cared more for what they thought were cute remarks than listening to the movie. I called them down, they were quite after that and avoided me after the show was over. Morons.:death:

  6. NFA stuff only went sky high after 1985. We sold Thompson's for 2K pre 1985. Mac 10s were <$200 and you could get a Ramo .50 for around 5K. Oh, if I'd had some money back then.

  7. If we'd just take the republican party back, that would solve the problem. We wouldn't have to worry about the idiots that always vote party line because our candidate would be it. Kick out the Rhinos, stomp on them, begin at your county level and run'em out. Overwhelm them from within. I've been a third party advocate for years, even back to the Perot, almost win. Unfortunately all it got us was BC. The system has been redesigned over time to exclude any challengers to the two party system. Until we adopt, believe it or not, a system similar to the French we'll never over come the two party system. Actually, I don't think it will ever happen, at least not until the country breaks into smaller parts.

  8. One passed right in front of my wife as she was coming up the drive last summer, chasing a deer.

While bushogging I found the front leg of a deer from about the knee down just laying on a big flat rock. Was fairly fresh, looked to be off a full grown deer. Not sure if yotes did it or not, thought it was kinda weird.

  9. While I'll shed no tears when Bart leaves the House I wonder who'll replace him. Mary Lou forgot-her-last-name talks conservative but so did Bart.

Attn.TN. Rep. Party!! Don't think just because the candidate has an 'R' behind their name they're a shoo-in:'R' can mean RINO as well as Republican!

I'll give Corker another term but it's time for Alexander to be retired.

I think that's Lou Ann Zelnick you're thinking of. And yes she talks a conservative line just as many of them do, and I believe her. And you're right, they all talk a good game, but I've met Zelnick and believe she is the real deal.

They are coming out of the woodwork just as I suspected. Two more throw their hats into the ring on the heels of Bart's revelation. They wouldn't jump in on a hard fight, but are great spoilers.

  10. The republicans need to take about as much heat in the 6th district as Bart, they haven't run anyone against him in the last two election cycles!! They just ***kin' gave up. I don't know why they didn't see the writing on the wall way back. Four years ago an independent candidate got nearly 25% of the vote.

At least this time we'll have some decent candidates for what appears to be an open seat. And at least one of the candidates running is a true constitutional conservative.

The only down side is that with Bart's announcement and a wide open seat, other Republicans may now slither out of the woodwork, and because of their party buds, may stand a better chance of getting elected than the real conservatives we need and who are fighting the fight right now.

I only hope it doesn't lead to a Corker/Alexander-esk stuffed shirt going to DC. That's the last thing we need.

  11. How far can you keep your shots in a 6" circle? If you reload, look in the pistol section. Reloaded "right"* you won't give up that much to a 20" factory load.

I know people who can hit soda cans at 300yd with a 14" Contender pistol.

    * by right I mean with powder better suited to 14-16" Contender pistol barrels not over published data!

My .223 contender will do sub MOA groups easy, if I do my part

  12. I was out in Utah a few months ago and stopped by a local gun shop. They were advertising a varmint hunting contest for the upcoming weekend. A chuck contest I think they called it. He said they would probably have about 20 teams of shooters and biggest chuck would win the jackpot. The interesting part was that when I inquired about shooting distances, he said most wouldn't take shots any closer than 200 yds. (not sporting enough) that 400-500 was the norm. And I'm thinking, heck 200 yds. in TN is about tops!
