  1. First of all, sorry for using the word "Best". I realize that opinions about classes are strictly that - opinions, but I would be interested to hear about your impressions and experience with local CCW courses. I would love to hear recommendations of who gives good information and instruction, and also those to shy away from. My situation is this. Both my wife and I would like to take a CCW course. She is not yet ready to start carrying, I would have a lot of problems consistently carrying given my line of work. Both of us are interested in being responsible shooters/gun owners (We both have a moderate experience with shooting. Capable, safe, and enjoy it) We are also both educated and intelligent, so a biggie is an intelligently run class. I don't want to waste my time on some guy rambling on, ranting etc. Concise, quality information, thorough and open to questions is key. Any help here? We live in Nashville but would consider traveling. Thanks Gray
  2. Best option in my mind is take up the take up, then fire the weapon. The grit should smooth out a lot after firing several hundred rounds.
  3. G- thanks so much for the response. In what I have read, and what you are saying, I suspect you are absolutely right. I'm not afraid of a little mechanical tinkering, so I'll give a thorough disassembly and cleaning/lubing a go. If still an issue, tell me where you want to eat!!! Thanks again. I'll let y'all know how it turns out. BTW, other than the CCI Std Velocity, are there any other brands etc of ammo that you have had consistent success with? Gray
  4. I have a pre-A serial number S&W model 41 (old) that was a safe queen for many years before I picked it up. Super accurate but is frought with action issues...stovepipes, FTEs, failure to reset trigger then go into battery etc. I have only used CCI std velocity. I am no gunsmith, but all of the forums (rimfire central etc) that I have read note varying amounts of issues with these finely made guns. I think I need a GOOD gunsmith to really look this guy over and tune it up. It may simply be years of sitting around and need a thorough cleaning etc. Again, I am not a gunsmith so I dont know. Any of you guys know of a top notch S&W Model 41 guru that could help? Thanks Gray
  5. Outstanding shooting...I LOOOVVVVE the Sig. Pretty gun. (no lack of props for the 1911 too)
  6. Sorry 'bout that
  7. Here's my attempt. Strong hand only PLUS moving it out further is sure more of a challenge. Rimfire - S&W Model 41, CCI Std Velocity .22LR - 3/11/10 Centerfire - M&P Pro, Blazer Brass 9mm - 3/11/10 Centerfire - S&W Model 66 - .38spcl - 3/25/10
  8. Guns thanks for the encouragement. I've been shooting less than a year, and I plan to try my hand at some IDPA this spring. Looking forward to it. I still like the postal match competitions to keep honing my accuracy skills. Besides it gives me an ongoing excuse to go to the range. By the way, I am really interested in trying sporting clays/skeet. I am in Nashville. Who are the good/patient instructors around? Gray
  9. Here's my sad attempt. I clearly am very right handed. This was done with my S&W M&P Pro 9mm. Funny, I am MUCH more accurate with my wife's Model 66 .38 special revolver. Why? Maybe the 9mm is snappier. Maybe its the very smooth DA trigger on the revolver.
  10. I certainly admire the weapon, but I think your weak hand shooting is outstanding!!! Makes me not want to submit mine.
  11. Here you go, I uploaded the file to http://postalmatch.googlegroups.com/web/TGO+Postal+Match+Target.pdf?hl=en&gda=dohxc04AAACHhvLLJkAXzvuWLAN_HG8rVkaXf1cKrwWP2jK5nbimCqsIKE2386IwYXiClUCxxoXeq16gZ8oq654CChCzatEB47Cl1bPl-23V2XOW7kn5sQ. I've also placed a link on my blog Nashville Online Handgun Postal Match. Just click the TGO logo. Go to www.postalmatch.blogspot.com and look around. BTW If any of you are interested in participating in my monthly postal match too, please read the blog and join in. it would be great to have more participants. Gray
  12. I am doing some research to find a 9mm for concealed carry. I am fond of the longer trigger pull of the DA or DAO (rather than the SA cocked and locked of the 1911) in this situation. (My bias) I would prefer a single stack thin model. I've shot a Kahr P9, and have handled a Para PDA (with LDA trigger). I've also looked at the Para Carry 9 in the magazines. I've also handled a Sprinfield Armory EMP. Can you folks give me your thoughts and experiences with each? Any others out there I should look at? Thanks for your expertise. Gray
  13. mjnsx07, thank you. My wife's gun is a honey
  14. Heres my first entry for 2010.
  15. My M&P Pro came with Novak F/O front sight. Green. I really liked it until I broke the thin little rod. I replaced it with a Red rod, but Ive broken that one too. (And I am NOT rough on my gun). I have been looking at the Dawson lineup. I've also sourced 3ft lengths of replacement 0.060" rod. Now I have to weigh the cost/benefits. G
  16. I have enjoyed playing along with the TGO postal matches. Well run and pretty good participation. Several months ago, I got some friends together to create our own Online Postal Match. I wanted to invite any TGO members to join in. Each month there is a different task and different target. In celebration of Halloween, we need to kill some Zombies. Click the link to go to the post for this months match: ------ Nashville Online ------ Handgun Postal Match: October 2009 Match - Die Zombie Die Please, if you are interested, join in. All are welcome. The main link to the blog is www.postalmatch.blogspot.com. Any questions or interest, please email me at postalmatch@gmail.com Thanks Gray
  17. Thanks for the lesson. This is why I come here. Gray
  18. Sorry, but 20-30 for how many? I have no knowledge about reloading other than what I have started to read. Truly a newbie, I admit it. It does, however sound like a fun addition to the shooting hobby. Maybe some money saved as well. Gray
  19. Naiive lurker here. What is a REASONABLE price for either small or large primers? Gray
  20. Dang, I forgot. It was my wifes S&W Model 66 4" revolver. Same gun I used in last months match. Trigger is like "BUTTA". Gray This is my photo from previous. Ignore the target, just focus on the gun.
  21. I used a revolver, but I chose to shoot a total of 10 rnds. (5 and 5) There was a minimal break to reload, but I tried to go as fast as I could. Using a DA revolver is NOT as fast as a semi-auto!!! Gray
  22. To clarify, I am shooting the revolver DA.
  23. I have an S&W M&P 9mm which I really like. I LOVE to shoot my wife's S&W Model 66 .357 revolver. It has the smoothest DA trigger, and is rock solid accurate. Do any of you know of any semi-auto pistols with smooth DA or DA-Like triggers? Ive shot a standard SA 1911 once and really liked it. Anyone have any experience with the Para LDA system? Others? BTW I've also shot a Kahr P9 with a really smooth DA trigger. That is in the running. Looking for something for target, possibly Bullseye, or HD. Not planning to carry at this point. Gray
  24. I agree. Gives me something to work on. Gray
