  1. Blairellis, Dont forget to email me a photo too - postalmatch@gmail.com Because there is still a problem with publishing/sharing a file on google docs for those folks who do not have a google account, I've hosted the file on acrobat.com. You should not need to sign it, clicking the link should take you right to the file. Click the DOWNLOAD button at the upper left to save it to your computer. Let me know if there are problems. Gray
  2. Google Docs has some issues. I am not sure that the link on the postal match website will allow someone to download the file without signing in to Google accounts. I've looked around and others are having this problem as well. Here is the direct link to the file for the October 2010 Zombie Apocalypse Target. I hope they get this fixed. Gray
  3. Super. Let me know if there are any issues with getting the target to download...I had to move files over to Google Docs. Invite your friends to play. If people want it so, I would be happy to make this the official TGO match too.
  4. Is this match too much for someone who has never shot a match before? Gray
  5. Thanks David. I invite everyone to participate.
  6. I miss the TGO postal match. I have been hosting the URL for the target for some time, but I certainly understand it can be time consuming to manage. For the last year I have been hosting my own postal match. The Nashville Online Handgun Postal Match is open to anyone who wants to shoot handguns for fun. I invite all of you to check it out at www.postalmatch.blogspot.com. By the way, this Postal Match is the OFFICIAL postal match of The Gun Nation Podcast hosted by Doc Wesson. I would be very happy/honored to make it the official postal match of TGO too. Let me know what you think. For more information go to the postal match link above or email directly at postalmatch@gmail.com. This month's match is a Zombie shoot off. Kill them before they kill you.
  7. Gary, nice chatting with you today. I will make sure to make it up your way. Gray
  8. This may be a dumb question, but I have never shot an IDPA match but I plan to soon. I like learning all aspects of things. Do you think it would be inappropriate for me to sign up for this course without the actual experience? (unfortunately I was planning to come out to Dickson this weekend, but we have family in town)
  9. I hope not. Maybe just on sabattical. Gray
  10. Most natural feeling gun I've ever picked up. My wife gave me on for fathers day.
  11. Phil at Bellshire Guns in Nashville always has a bunch with good pricing on Gunbroker. Look for seller Bellshire.
  12. So I just got back from the range shooting my new GSG 1911-22. What a buy. I was lucky enough to pick one up on sale at Midwest Hunters Outlet for $283. Very nice fit and finish. Sturdy feeling. Nice heavy weight magazine. Shot 200 CCI standard velocity in fairly rapid order with zero malfunctions. Slide locked back whenever the magazine was empty. Always would slingshot into battery. I did not pre-clean the gun. I also did not touch the sights, and I was quite impressed. I was shooting easily 1" groups with two hands at 10 yards, and 2" groups at 15 yards. I switched to Eley Sport, and had 3 (out of 50) failures to fire. It was always the second round in the magazine...just click. Cycle the slide and the rest would fire without any issue. Unfortunately I did not think to look at the expelled rounds to see if there was evidence of a light primer strike. Maybe not going all the way into battery? We will keep playing. The only real negatives I see are the three dot sights. Narrower than I am accustomed to. They work, just look odd to me. Just something to get used to, I guess. They are Novak cut, so I could always swap them out. I'm thinking of putting a flat mainspring housing with magwell on it to fit my hand a little better. I want to make some exotic grips for it just for fun. I got three additional magazines for a good price off Gunbroker. Otherwise at this point I would not change a thing. More rounds down the pipe will tell a tale I suppose. I'll keep you posted. Gray
  13. Thanks Bubba-D. I know the whole training side of his business is really fairly new. His immediate e-mail responses to my queries and his basic philosophies sounded right up my alley. I also like the fact that the HCP class and the NRA Basic Pistol class are combined. Finally, they shoot at Charlie Haffner's range...I love shooting outdoors, and I suspect for newbies, it is much less anxiety provoking during training than indoors (less noise etc). I can't make his July classes but I think I'll sign up soon. Gray
  14. Phil over at Bellshire Hardware/Guns says he has this gun available. His prices tend to be really good.
  15. I recently found HCP/NRA Basic pistol class given by Mossy Creek Customs and Jeff Mimms in Nashville. Anyone have any knowledge of them? Thanks Gray
  16. I live in Nashville. My wife and I are thinking of investing in some rural acreage in Davidson or surrounding counties...likely a possible retirement "estate" - really just a big piece of earth so we are not right on top of the neighbors (when that time comes). We have also talked about setting up our own shooting range. Question is, how do I go about finding out if it is legal for me to shoot on my own land (obviously safety first)? We have looked at properties from 10 - 150 acres in Dickson, Williamson (college grove for one), and Sumner counties so far. Any help out there?
  17. I've not really been able to find an answer to a question. Firstly, I have NOT taken a CCW class yet...perhaps the answer is there. I have an aquaintance who is an avid firearms guy. He, however states that he does not want to get a CCW permit for fear that it would actually put him at a higher legal standard of responsibility than a non-permit holder in the event of a personal defense shooting...say for example, someone breaks into the home of two gun owners-one with a CCW permit and one without. His theory is that the CCW holder would be critiqued more strictly than the non CCW holder since he has been through "training" and is "certified". (Much like a doctor would be held to a higher standard of care than a lay person if they both came upon an injured person) He is NOT a legal expert, but it would be interesting to know from a LEGAL PERSPECTIVE if this is really true or not. Any opinions, thoughts or precident? Thanks Gray
  18. If it is ok, I'll bump this up again. Everyone, join in for this charity match. www.postalmatch.blogspot.com
  19. I just found this post. I sure would be interested. I just started shooting a year ago...love it. Currently have 9mm. .38special revolver and .22 semiauto. Its funny, I like shooting the .38 the most just cuz the trigger is so smooth. Unfortunately .38 is plenty expensive, and somewhat scarce. Gray
  20. Bump - cuz its for charity
  21. Please join us in Shooting for Nashville Flood Relief. I am hosting an Online Handgun Postal Match (part of my monthly series at www.postalmatch.blogspot.com) to raise money to support Hands on Nashville. Hands on Nashville (www.hon.org) was at the point of organizing volunteers to help in the early and ongoing stages of recovery from the recent floods in Nashville and middle Tennessee. They are a non-profit group that works locally to help those in need...with volunteer help. They did a phenomenal job getting help to those that needed it. I will be giving $10 for every target entered in June's match. It is my hope that all shooters will find it in their hearts (and bank accounts) to match or beat my donations. While there is no cost to enter the contest, I hope that all entrants can also donate. High scorer will also get a "commemorative" Nashville Flood T-Shirt. Click here to go to the match information: Nashville Online Handgun Postal Match: June 2010 - Shooting For Nashville Flood Relief Here is the flyer for the match: I hope you can join along. Also, please pass this along to your friends. All are welcome. You can enter as many guns in as many classes as you want. Gray Stahlman, MD Tennessee Orthopaedic Alliance (www.toa.com)
  22. Ok, here goes. I have both a rimfire and centerfire entry. And just for fun, I took out my dad's old 1940 Winchester 52B sporter .22 rifle. Bolt action. Open sights. I have not shot this in 32 years. (I was 16 when I last shot it). All I did was clean it. 50 rounds of Eley Sport ammo at 50 feet (The limits of the indoor range) with my elbows propped up on the bench. No sandbags. No sight adjustment. Jeez, that thing was: 1) accurate 2) super fun to shoot 3) powerful in the nostalgia department. I never got to shoot with my dad...I was 8 when he died, but this gun was a legacy to me. IShooting it really made me long to go back in time and spend some time learning from my dad. Happy Memorial Day weekend. Remember and thank our armed service men and women. Be safe. Have fun. Take someone shooting. Gray
  23. I've found a wealth of information on this topic over at Rimfire Central. Try this link, search and read away. Ruger Semi Auto Pistols - RimfireCentral.com Forums
  24. GNMWILLIAMS yours looks like a 99 to me
  25. I needed some blood pressure relief on tax day...so I went shooting. I feel a little bit better, but I would still rather be able to designate what/where my taxes funded. Here are my three for this month. Centerfire - S&W M&P Pro, 9mm, Score=95 Centerfire - S&W Model 66 Revolver, .38 special, Score = 98 Rimfire - S&W Model 41, .22LR, Score = 98 or 99. If it counts that the lead ring touching goes for the higher score then it may be 99.
