  1. Randy, Michelle is here. Unfortunetly, we got rained out before she took the line. We also have Jim Murphy, Bob Depp, Jeff Bartlett, Wandy Wells, Jeff Traylor, Dale Carpenter, Bret Solomon and a few other's who have done some serious travelling. I hate that we had to call it, but it's not worth someone getting hurt by lightning. I'm not sure how much shooting I'll do this year. I have become infatuated with running my car around race tracks. It came down to reloading components or tires. I can find tires. I cannot find primers or any substantial number of bullets/powder. I'm holding my primer/142SMK stock until later summer, and I'll try to shoot the second half of the year. I may get a few matches in before September to knock the rust off and get things sorted. (ie. get my wrist used to the sling again!) Chris
  2. Shooters, Conditions today prevented us from finishing a full match. Not good for the shooters who came out today, but great if you are a one day only shooter and Sunday is your day. Weather tomorrow is supposed to be sunny and 72*F. With the moisture we got today, seeing mirage shouldn't be a problem! Due to the fact that we completed no full matches today, the TN F class championship(LR) will be determined by the aggregate of Sunday's matches. So, if you missed today and still want to shoot for the championship/match/class winner, you can come out tomorrow and still be able to win overall. We will all be starting on equal footing. Registration tomorrow starts at 8AM central and ends at 9:15 central. First round down will be 9:45AM. Tomorrows course of fire will be a three 20 shot matches. Match fees for the day will be $30. Shooters who came out today and paid for the full weekend, please see me at tomorrows stat table. If you have any questions about tomorrow please feel free to call me. My number is listed in the latch program in the top post of this thread. Chris
  3. Shooters, I know there has been a lot of speculation etc., about the match due to the weather. Though I cannot predict what tomorrow's weather will be like, I will say that the match officials will be there at 8:30AM to hand out SR1's and start squadding. If we start late or have to stop early due to weather than we will adjust the match program accordingly. As of now, Sunday's weather looks like it may be O.K. , but again I cannot guarantee weather. I will say if we have enough shooter that want to shoot and we start a match we will finish it rain or shine, either day, as long as there is no lightning dangerous weather. (Ask Frank B. and Emil K.) Fingers crossed, I will be wheels up for the range in 11 hours. Chris

  5. I'll be driving out tomorrow, just in case the weather forcast is wrong. If it's pouring, and doesn't look like it's going to clear early, we'll probably call it. We'll have to come up with a date for a work party in the next couple of weeks to fix the targets for the F Class State Championship in late April. Chris

  9. I guess you didn't read the entire thread. If you did, you would have seen that all the information you were looking for was just one response up. Posted in my first post on 2-18-10. If you are in East TN, you should check out the matches at ORSA in Oak Ridge as well. If you need more info on AEDC long range matches, feel free to drop me an email or a PM. Chris
  10. Shooters, Warren County Rifle Club held its first long-range match of 2010. We had a great turn out, with 42 shooters (35 of which actually turned in their scores J )on hand to enjoy the weather and the competition. We were lucky to have not only a lot of new faces, but many new long-range shooters come out today. I’ll admit, today was a rough day for someone who’s been at this a few years, and it wind was not kind to any relay all day. Everyone stayed and shot all matches though, so thanks for sticking with it. The match started a bit late, due to some logistical issues, but first round down went about 1045hrs and all firing was complete at 1615hrs. We ran our normal four relay rotation and one wind flag at the pit wall. Mirage was out in force today, as the temperature climbed from about 45 at the start of the match to the mid-60’s at the end. The sun was out all day, and we didn’t get any of the clouds predicted. Wind was tricky, and was between 3 to 10 mph all day. There seems to be a lot of elevation for AEDC as well. By the last couple of relays, trace could be seen, but it was largely impossible to catch trace for most of the day, which made getting unzero’d rifles on paper difficult, especially with the wind. Jack Little continues his winning streak at AEDC. It seems Jack wins every match he enters here, so I expect we’ll see a lot more of him. Hopefully, be brings Gordon along as well! Jack was only down 6 points at the end of the day and a 394-13x took the win in conventional prone today. Jacks closest competitor was 8 points down. Though they weren’t on top of the scoreboard today, I have to give Jay Duncan and Clyde Kunz there mention. They earned it by shooting service rifles today. Laura Perry also had a good day with her new Palma rig. It’s the first time I’ve seen it out, and she put up a 367-6. F TR saw a run away leader today as well. James Ruiz took his new Patriot Arms 308win and dominated a field of very good shooters today. James took top score of the 15 FTR shooters with a 374-6. Darrin Minnear was second F TR with a 358-1, and Brad Farrell knocked the dust and mothballs off his rig and took third with a 356-4. I’d also like to mention Nate Espy who, at 9 years old, shot a 124 today with a 308win. I’m sure he’ll remember this for a while. At least until his shoulder stops hurting. I’d also like to mention Scot Miller, Jeff Burrows, George Pettit, Chris Newell, Robert Banniza and Jr. Torbett. They are all first time long-ranger shooters and all put up some very respectable scores in some tricky conditions. Danny Biggs ran F-Open today. Both of his scores were high match scores and his aggregate of 386-08 is impressive. See Dan, look what happens when you put the 308Win back in the safe and bring out an Open rifle. You win that too! Second place was a lot closer. Gene and Randy Graham fought it out all day and both Gene and Randy put up 377’s, but, but Gene edged Randy out by 4 X’s. (377-10, 377-6) If Randy gets his back straitened out I think he’ll take Gene next time. I’d also like to thank John McGuire for being match director and Senior RSO today, the Tennessee National Guard for having the range in great shape and providing the logistic and material needed to run these events, Matt Kubic and crew for setting up the pits and the road guard gear as well as all the shooters who came in today and made this a safe and fun match. Our Next match will be March 21st. Registration is 9AM, shooting starts at 10AM Central. If you like more information about this or upcoming matches please feel free to email me at 20xclean@comcast.net. Until next time, All X’s and 10’s, Chris Hayes
  11. First 1000 yard match of the year is tomorrow. Weather is going to be beautiful, 61 and partly cloudy. This is a great opportunity to get your feet wet at 1K. PM or email me for details. Chris
  12. Weather is going to be 61 and partly cloudy tomorrow. Hope to see some of you on the range.
  13. WCRC doesn't have a website, but we do have three dates so far this year. Feb 21st we're having a 2x1000, 9AM, Tullahoma TN., $15 for the day Mar 21st we're having a 2x1000, 9AM, Tullahoma TN., $15 for the day April 24/25 is the state F class championship and it'll consist of 5x1000 matches. Three on Saturday and two on Sunday. 8AM each day, Tullahoma TN. Feel free to PM or email me for more info. Chris 20xclean@comcast.net
  14. Warren County Rifle Club is hosting a 2x1000 long range highpower rifle match at AEDC's 1000 yard rifle rage in Tullahoma TN Feb 21. This will be a club match, range fees are $15 for the day. Registration is 9AM, first round down is 10AM. All shooters will be required to score and work the pits. For more details and/or direction to the range please PM me. Chris
  15. CRC is a good place to get your feet wet and learn the range commands and course of fire. If Jack Little or Chuck Polk are still running the 3x500's, they are both good people. Jack is a Champion level shooter and a damn good gunsmith as well. You don't have to be a member to shoot the matches either, you just pay the match fees and shoot. When you get serious about long range, then you'll drive an hour or so north to either AEDC or ORSA and shoot the 1000 yard matches.

  17. As has been said, Oak Ridge and AEDC do not allow .50BMG. Besides the fact that there is no where local (In TN ) that you can shoot to 1000+ with it (and why bother inside 1000y?) a there is a need for a "one caliber use" loading press, massive amounts of pull down (if you can still get it) or expensive lots of slow burning powder and over $30 per 20 bullets prices make it a novelty I can't justify. I wouldn't mind owning a bolt action .50cal, but all things considered, you can accurately shoot 1500 - 2000 yards with a 300gr bullet in 338Lapua Magnum and it won't cost you $4.00+ a shot.
  18. I hurt my back in the gym Saturday and couldn't go. No word from John how the turn-out was, but the weather was great. Froggy, 194 with a crossfire? Explain this to me Maybe,, 188 with a crossfire?
  19. Looks like we're going to luck out with Sunday's weather. It' supposed to be nice out
  20. Oct 11th Warren County Rifle Club is having two 1000 yard matches. If you found some 175's, you should come on out and enjoy a layed back club match, while we still have nice weather. You don't need a bunch of load testing the first time out either. Shoot a safe load, and get to know the course of fire, etc. This could be it for the year, match wise. We are into pick-up dates at this point. First timers at AEDC shoot free. (all you regulars gotta pay the $15) Nice looking rifle. I'm looking forward to seeing you stretch it legs. I'll now cease my thread-jacking...... Chris
  21. Usually we'll get a few Saturday dates in the spring and fall, but it was slim pickings this year. We take the pop-up dates we can get at this point. Hope to see you out some day.
  22. WCRC is hosting a non-approved club match Oct 11th. Registration is 8AM, Shooting starts at 9AM. Course of fire is 2x1000. Match fees for the day are $15. If you have any question about the match please PM me through the site. Chris
  23. Looks like the next 1000y match is Oct 11th. Hope to see you out. If you want to discuss loads, send me a PM and we can email about it. 168's SMK's will not make it supersonic from a 308.
  24. Eric, before you spend any money, come out to AEDC for the next 1000y match date. (TBD, but hopefully in Sept) and look through the scopes. There will probably be one of everything you're considering on the firing line. You'll be able to see for yourself which one has the clarity and resultion you find best. I have a 3.5x10x M3 Leupold on my F TR rifle. It's uncompetitive on the F class target. It would be alright for a E Type, but hitting an E type isn't all that challanging at most ranges. I'm not saying it can't be competitive, as many of us shoot the Prone target with iron sights, but 10x is a much tougher road to take. Also, if you plan on keeping the flat base, and moving away from the Burris rings (they work fine for target shooting) the Leupold MkIV 16X M1 is the only scope I know of with enough internal elevation to get a short barrel 308win to 1000y. Sig ARs

Looks like they took the sig556 gas system and adpated it to a AR15 platform. Kind of like Daewoo did 20 years ago. There are so many new additions to the piston driven semi-auto as of late, I can't keep up. I'll admit, I have a serious jones for a folding stock Sig556. I just can't step up to the plate when it comes to paying for it.
