  1. As a good long term storage possibility, I'll throw out another option.  We build these water filters in Haiti for a couple different orphanages.  It filters down to like .5 microns, I believe.  I have one stored away, just in case, easy to build, lasts for about six months and costs about 30 bucks from cheaper than dirt.(And I like this guy in the video!)   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=efO2X17M1Bk
  2. That dual carry that I was talking about can be worn sob or on your side too.
  3. I carry SOB about 50%, it does have a couple disadvantages, but I still like it. I have a dual carry from D.m. bullard(Google that and you will find it) he makes works of arts out of leather, awesome holsters! Only problem is he runs several several weeks behind, which to me is a testament to his craftsmanship.
  4. +1 for Clark center park. I've been out there, good place to fish.
  5. So basically you can carry, but you might get in trouble if you had to defend yourself????
  6. Twra has a rifle range in Knoxville that has short distances on it. I've seen people there shooting pistols. Its only a few bucks too.
  7. Cabelas has some available online, including Speer.
  8. I like the looks of that gun. I'll have to get my hands on one to feel it out. How wide is that thing?
  9. Thanks, that was the info I was looking for.
  10. I'm trying to decide on my next gun purchase. I'm wanting something smaller to carry when I don't want to carry my 40sc. I'm looking at either the pt709 or a 380, either the ruger or Taurus. I have handled all of them. I'm not trying to start another "380 is too small" debate. I'm just looking for advise on something I could put in a cargo pocket. Is the pt709 slim small enough for this? I've already got a 9mm, so with that option, I wouldn't have to buy another ammo size. Thanks for your thoughts.
  11. I bet it won't be hard to convince her to change her mind now, I'd get her in now while this scenario is fresh on her mind.
  12. Carrying a gun in a vehicle without a permit is only a misdemeanor from what I understand. That is all the UT basketball players were charged with. So, risk a misdemeanor, or risk something horrible happening? I think you made the right move, same thing I would've done.
  13. well, it does have video, so that will for sure keep the BG's with gun's out!
  14. I deer hunt alot and I have NEVER carried a rifle loaded in my truck. There is just no need for it. When you get to where you are hunting, you load, upon returning to my truck, I unload it. It is also against the law. Maybe you are thinking about a muzzleloader, which can be loaded with a bullet and powder, as long as it doesn't have a priming cap, it isn't considered loaded. I have my HCP and frequently have a gun in my center console.
  15. Some?? I've rastled more than one acid tripper at bonnaroo to the ground, but I have to admit, it is a mostly peaceful crowd, and the scenery! Very artistic is all I can say. I'll be at bonnaroo again this year working medical in the stage areas again, I'll be staying in my camper and I will probably have my firearm locked in my castle. The searches are not that severe, unless you were the unlucky whatever number car to drive thru. I think they are mostly looking for drugs, I'd say you'd probably be ok with it locked in your vehicle..
  16. I plan on spending an obscene amount of money at the new range! I can't wait for it to open!
  17. Frontier firearms is in Kingston, not Kingsport. They are friendly and helpful, their stock is somewhat limited. They will be opening a new store in a month or two, should have lots more room. Same here on Coal Creek, they are jerks in there.
  18. Thanks OS, by the way, I should be receiving my dm bullard that you used to have as your avatar any time now. It's been a long wait, that's for sure.
  19. Well, I've had my permit for a couple months now, I've packed several times, even to wal-mart, BUT, tonight I went to wally world packin, AND bought some ammo! I bought 9mm, 40S&W, and 22lr for my son's rifle. Guess that makes me official now, right?
  20. That was exactly the point I was trying to make. I keep an xd9 in a wall safe, I might not get into it for a few weeks at a time, I might not remember if one was in the chamber or not, I know by looking and feeling it though.
  21. I am only about a year ahead of you in gun ownership/carry. I am a big fan of the springfield xd because of the main reason that you stated....safety. XD's actually have 3 safeties built into them, one being the grip safety. Also being a novice, I liked 2 other features that xd have, that is the striker indicator and the loaded chamber indicator. I can look at my gun, or run my fingers over it and know that it is ready to fire or not. That being said, I believe some of the Glocks also have a loaded chamber indicator also. Like everyone is stated, find a range nearby that will rent guns and try them out, that's what I did and decided the XD fits me best, but that's me, figure out what fits you the best.
  22. I'd look into taking the Basic Handgun safety course, it would help you tremendously. Check one of your local shops, they probably teach it there. It would help you get started off on the right foot. It's alot easier to learn the correct grip, stance, sight etc starting out than trying to correct bad habits later.
